    I love having # 10 cans on hand! Heads up: I moved my cans over the weekend and some of them dented inward very easily when bumped. I wasn’t prepared for this and I didn’t pay as much attention as I should have when I moved them. Just a bit of bumping caused denting. Store/ move them carefully! Thank you! 🙂

    THESE IMAGES are how I know just how different it is at different Walmarts across the country. Because here we are, 2 years later and a few months into a pandemic and, at the 2 Walmart’s closest to me, if you hunt very carefully, you just might find 4-6 hangers of MH Food packages, near the back of the camping section, which is at the opposite side of the store where all groceries are kept and don’t bother asking anyone where it is as, they’ve never heard of these brands and don’t know why anyone would even want to have long term food storage anyway. Don’t even bother looking for #10 cans. You can order them online through Walmart but, that’s it. Plus, you have certain pouch choices at one Walmart, that are not available at the other. So, I’m glad I’m finding out about this a little bit early, because, if there was a sudden need, I’d be SOL.

    • @C2yourself
      @C2yourself 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look on Amazon under Augason Farms. Just recently they've had carrots, peas, bell peppers, potatoes, soup mix, eggs, butter, peanut butter, berries, banana chips, apple slices and more!

    • @privateprivate8366
      @privateprivate8366 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      C2yourself yes, there’s a few of these companies and I know I can order online, in addition to all the cans I’ve picked up at LDS. I am just working to make more space for it all. But, yeah, at the 2 Walmart’s closest to me, it’s not the same experience I’ve seen AG have, where she can pickup a number of long term storage cans, like cans of Folgers, off the shelf. It’s probably just a difference in locale. Perhaps, in Alaska, people have enough snow that, when they food shop, it’s assumed that they’re going to frequently buy long term foods, as much as anything else and they might also have the space at home for it. I don’t know really. I live in the northeast and I’d bet that just about every person I’d speak to would wonder just why on earth you’d ever need or want food that lasts 25-30 years.

      It's so true, and so irritating. I live in nw Oregon within an hour or so of at least 20 Walmarts. The only one near me quit stocking emergency food cans but every other Walmart has totally different stuff. The emergency stuff (at other Walmarts) is on the same aisle as their institutional/large quantity food, which my Walmart also doesn't have. It's like Costco stuff, a gallon of mayo, gallon of pickles, etc. Just a random aisle inserted into bigger stores

    • @privateprivate8366
      @privateprivate8366 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@no_peace yeah this also leads people, I’m certain areas like mine, to believe prepping is the most bizarro thing they’ve ever heard of - and that’s with shortages not being better than they were over a year ago. We’re truly the boiling frog.

    Ohio Walmarts do not carry the long term foods in the store, or at least I cannot find them. Luckily you can get them online, as you say. I guess Alaskans are smarter about being prepared. We have it so easy around here, that there's no incentive for people to learn the important skills that would keep them alive. They have the mindset that everything they want will be provided and the system is working just fine....until it doesn't.

      In the US we're less likely to receive help from the government, the system doesn't work properly, by design, so people are just not as safe if they don't have supplies. But still most people don't have them. In my circle it's because they're scared and overwhelmed, so they don't want to think about it. There's not enough room and they don't have time to learn to do it properly to make it feel less scary. So it's a hobby/phenomenon here sure but it's a small minority. I only know of one other family that even has an earthquake kit, in earthquake country. My parents have a backpack with supplies but that's because I gave it to them, and they're moving so it's not even in the same city with them :/

    even the homemade preserves can be kept good for many years without any problem !!! We don't have to buy all this ready-made crap. If a person is skilled and has a lot of experience in how to make homemade preserves and genuine homemade ready-made food, he knows what is in it and knows what he eats. According to which preserves are made they remain good for 2 years, 5 years, 10 years 30 years 50 years, it depends precisely what you do !!! And I make a lot of homemade preserves of all kinds of vegetables, and various cooked food, even vegetables and dried fruit I have been making for a lifetime, various broths and sauces to season pasta, I have many dried legumes of all kinds, more than 100 kilos of pasta (the pasta is bought dry pasta NOT ready pasta that you just have to reheat blehh that filth !!!) but packs of Italian durum wheat pasta and nothing else. pasta keeps good even BEYOND THE DATE WRITTEN ON THE PACKAGE without problems !!! Practically pasta has no expiration date, the date is only for supermarkets so that they can always buy new goods .... but it does not mean that it expires and then you throw away NOOO ..... I do emergency stocks from a I have been making stocks for 50 years already, for many years and I also integrate them in all the days I cook and eat, I don't leave them there for good reason hahahaha but I also use them. I have 5 wineries all full of emergency supplies, lots of things homemade by me, good and genuine!

    • @anna-mariawuhrmann2988
      @anna-mariawuhrmann2988 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Keyzer Soze no I always complete the stocks EVERY day when I have to cook so I use them I don't leave them there for embellishment, the stocks even if they last many good years are the same to be integrated every day (and I don't have to go shopping every week or every month! )
      Everything I use daily, even for showering, bathing, cleaning the house, washing clothes, or lighting the fireplace in the Wintergarten to heat, I use everything every day. When I see that some product gradually decreases, I immediately buy others, in doing so I always have the cellars full, all my shelves are always full. I don't have to wait for them all to finish and then I have to start from scratch, NO when I see that I have a few packs of rice or pasta or other things I buy again and always keep my shelves full, which must NEVER be empty !!!
      But I have not only food supplies, but also packs of plasters, bandages, various medicines, ball masks, FFP2 mask and many other packs of other different masks, I have lots of bottles of liquid soap to wash the underwear and these things last without problems 30-40 years, candles, packs of matches, packs of lighters, bottles of shampoo, packs of toothpaste, various soaps etc. etc .. all last good up to 50 years .... food pasta rice, peeled dried legumes, tomato juice jams last up to 15-20 years depending on what it is .... it all depends on what you are has as stocks. then I myself produce many vegetables every year in my garden, I sow them every year and I grow many different vegetables ... then I have fruit trees, aromatic herbs, different varieties in short, I have everything! I thought it's all after all it's a life that I stock up for survival, in case of a war or a natural catastrophe etc ... it's a life that I have been leading since I was a little girl and I lived on my own, then I got married and I've always kept stocking up and today I'm 60 and still stocking up. Everything is ok for me

    Cans are better. They don't need water and cost less per serving. None of these are good for longer than a year nutritionally (vitamin c only last 6 months after manufacturing) so most people who store these for longer than a year will get scurvy and other vitamin deficiency diseases.

    Number tin can? What number is tin?

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Number 10 can. The #10 refers to the type of can that is used. The actual weight and volume of the contents will vary depending on the product. On average, the #10 can will hold 109 oz. To help you visualize, your average soup can is #2 can. #10 cans have multiple servings in them. For example, strawberries may have 28 servings, for a single person is a 1 month supply of stored food.

    Since this video was made, Wise has had a class action lawsuit slapped on them for two reasons. First, their meals have between 800 and 900 calories. That's basically starvation rations. Second, the shelf life of their products is nowhere near 25 years. It's more like 10 years. I invested lots of money in their food storage buckets and am waiting to find out how much of a refund I'll be getting.

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I am not a fan of Wise foods for the reasons you stated. I have tried some of their foods, and found the taste to be adequate, but not delicious, and have rotated all of it out of my food storage. I wouldn't hold my breath for a significant refund from any class action lawsuit.

    How many liters in no.10 can/tin?

    • @AlaskaGranny
      @AlaskaGranny  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Liters is hard to compare, as the foods in number 10 cans are usually dry. A #10 can will hold 109 oz. or 3.2 liters. I buy pinto beans in number 10 cans, 50 1/4 cup servings, or 5 pounds, 2.26 kg. The weight and serving size depends on the product. Augason Farms dehydrated potatoes weigh 482 grams, with 18 servings. Dried bananas weigh 924 grams and have 22 servings.
      I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask for more information. We all learn from each other.
