I personally think Empuu is a very under-rated guitarist. He doesn't need to do all kinds of shredding and insanely long solos. He just has a skill that is only obtained by years of playing in a killer band.
considering he plays rhythm consistently AND lead - WOW! I've seen and heard different versions of his solos layered onto each other and he nails it every time... Sometimes it sounds like two guitars playing complimentary themes, variations on a melody which work together, and at other times it sounds like only one!
I think he he has one of the most respectable skills a musician can have: he (only) plays what the music needs. He is not showing off. As a matter of fact, I think that is true for all of the members in Nightwish and I think that's what makes them such great live acts. They are very consistent, controlled and on top of their game. I mean what Kai and Jukka demonstrates on the drums, especially in those 10+ minutes songs, is amazing. Or even Tuomas on the keys while headbaning/windmilling and always hitting the notes (while there are videos of him misplaying some notes, but hey... happens to the best)
I think he's under-rated because the standard for a metal guitarist in a band of this status is ridiculously high. It's true that he is very disciplined and plays only purposefully but I think that's Tuomas's songwriting at play there, not just his personal tastes.
I always enjoy your detailed breakdown. The preferred Greatest Show on Earth is the Tampere one. It has extras. There are two of the same video. One with lyrics and one without. It’s best to go with the one with lyrics as there are many scientific and biological references in the song. There’s even some Latin and some voiceovers that are hard to pick up without a lyric display. You may already know that it’s about evolution. The creation of the universe, creation of earth, first life, first humans and of course, our ultimate demise. Absolutely awesome score, but then it’s Nightwish so we already know that. Here’s a link to the Tampere lyric video 😄🤘 th-cam.com/video/bl6lUfIMkGM/w-d-xo.html
Totally agree about the lyrics; the location and the atmosphere also make the Tampere show my first choice. However, the new version from the Wembley concert is amazing - you can hear every little detail... so why not both :D
Man, you can pause, rewind, and pause again as many times as you'd like. You _always_ have a comment, thought, or insight that's worth listening to. Heck, your insight is 99% of the reason why I subscribed. The other 1% is just watching your reactions. You have such an expressive face, and it's a treat to watch you take in the song you're listening to.
☝️ this a thousand times! When I watch your reactions, I feel like I get to hear the song again for the first time. You have a way of pointing out so much that I miss and I dont even realize it. Its fantastic! I truly appreciate the time you put into your reactions. Thank You!
"I know it's a long song, but I wanna go back to the beginning. I hope you don't mind," Sounds like you forgot who you were talking to. To Nightwish fans 6½ minutes is not a long song, it's a song of average length xD
No but there's lots of reactors where people complain about pausing which is a bit dumb. Like....go listen to the song then why search for reactions if you just want to llisten to the song uninterrupted.
Marco said singing with Floor is very easy for him. Before he had to tone down for vocalists not to overpower them, but Floor is so strong he can just do his thing
Fantastic reaction as always. It always amazes me how much you're able to process and analyze with just one listen. One of my favorite songs by Nightwish. Such a hype song. Only one for this one, turn it to 11 😁
My envy is immense. LOL. I've had the pleasure of being 2nd row at a smaller venue for Nightwish but this particular show is something I could only daydream of! I hope you had an absolute blast ♥️♥️♥️
When Floor commands you to chant....you F'ing chant. She is basically a 6'1" Goddess of Valkery's, with a voice of magic. Her crowd control is insane because of her open honesty, she just genuinely seems humble and so so happy to be giving of her talent.
Barbara Vance Oh god no... She was such a nice loving person, always spreading kindness and joy everywhere! I wish I had the chance to get to know her a little... May her pure soul rest in peace. All my prayers go to her loved ones 🙏 The Nightwish Army will cherish her memory!!
"Good evening to you! London! Wembley Arena!" Ohhh can't wait til' December 😁 Gotta love that solo battle between Tuomas and Emppu. Like you said Chase, "What a time to be alive."
Greatest Show: Nothing can beat the anniversary celebration in open air at Tampere in terms of full experience! Make sure you keep listening as they bow, and as the credits roll. I'll be watching to see how many historic songs you can catch embedded in the work, and I'm betting you'll both catch and appreciate more than most! Shudder BTB: absolutely amazing reaction (as usual)! I enjoyed every minute of it (except the ads that just wouldn't quit). What a great start to the weekend! Thank you so much!
Greatest Show on Earth? Oh boy, I'm excited! My vote 100% goes towards the Tampere version. As others have said, do make sure you watch it until the end - it's the last song of a concert film, so it includes credits. But the credits roll while the song is still going on. My personal opinion is that one should also be aware of the general theme of the song, but if you want to go in entirely blind, *stop reading* here! The song is about life and evolution; specifically, it tells the story of earth from the big bang to the eventual end of humanity. That is all I want to say before you listen to it; but there are tons of details in the text that one can't possibly all understand on first listening (Most people probably can't figure all of them out on their own, ever).
I have to say, you could do a reaction and not have to say a word. Just watching the expressions on your face speaks volumes. As the song went on you were like a kid opening a Christmas present, lol. You're probably the most genuine person I've ever seen doing one of these reactions, and deserve massive kudos for your detailed analysis.
I'm a simple man. You like Nigthwish, you like Floor, you said YOU GREW UP LIKING KISS. Dude, as far as I know, you're a bro I would go to a concert with. Here's my sub.
Shudder Before the Beautiful live at Wembley… one of the best concert openings I’ve ever seen. Ladies and gentleman…start your engines. The show has begun.😀🤘 What a “blow your mind” way to start a show!
I spent 4 years on the road as a sound engineer with a band and to hear you say sound man is the extra member of the band is so pleasing, so I thank you for that. Because of my time in music I feel I know where the best place to be is when going to a show , for the best sound, and visuals.... Right in front of the mixing desk or as close as I can get to it. And that is where I was for this show. Every now an then you might just see the lights shining of my now follicly challenged head :-) For an opener Shudder Before The Beautiful was fantastic and certainly grabs the audience's attention in a way I have rarely witnessed in my 40+ years of going to gigs. To open with that and close with The Greatest Show On Earth.... wow.
"What a time to be alive" indeed Chase. We are blessed to be able to watch and listen to this phenomenal group of musicians. Thank you for a wonderful reaction and breakdown of the ingredients that many of us, me included didn't even notice until you pick them out... in my case because I am usually mesmerised by Floor but I am getting better 🙏😊👍
Great breakdown and analysis of the nuances of the musical composition and performance. Most reactors don't have the musical understanding to even hear let alone analyze the components and structure of the song both musically and vocally. Love listening to and watching your reaction videos Chase. You could teach other reactors how it is properly done. Good one my friend. See you for the next one. Peace.
Yes. For me, Tampere version is more polished, has more energy, it flows better than the Wembley version, especially when it comes to the vocals. Troy's intro with the guitar is beautiful in Wembley version, though.
My favorite is the Buenos Aires version, even if it doesn't have the last part, as it does a better job of showing the 3 singers both in terms of audio mix and camera work.
@@pedjavukmirovic6770 Not sure if that was an attempt to demean Troy's talent or provoking xenophobia and homophobia, or all in one- but that is definitely the most obnoxious statement out of this whole commentary section. Not even a smidgen of humor in there.
In the dictionary, under "Consistency", the first definition should read "Floor Jansen". Not only is she consistently excellent professionally, but the more I have got to know her through her videos on her TH-cam channel, the more it becomes apparent that it carries through to her approach to life and her personal philosophy.
Legend has it that she hasn't missed a note in 15 years. Oh for sure, she is a professional singer. And I don't mean that as in she does this for a living. I mean that she has a professional drive to continue improving, evolving, refining, and expanding and WOW does it show.
Te me: The Greatest Show on Earth Live at Tampere, no doubt about it. Will be waiting for the poll. They did release the live one with Mr Richard Dawkins himself, but the visuals at Tampere are beyond compare. And please finish watching the entire vid. Maybe that's not relevant for a music reaction but relevant for the song itself.
Also, I think Tampere is way more polished despite the new version having a better mixing (and it is also a slightly different arrangement in some parts).
There's a difference in the choice of instrumentation for the first part between Wembley and Tampere. Troy's E-bow of Wembley makes the first part sound so much more mystical and majestic and (personal opinion) just better than the Tampere version. Since Chase analyses instrumentation, I would think Wembley would be something better for him to look at.
The end of this song fells always like a goodbye forever, the music, the happy-crying croud, the feeling of it all. Thank god it's only a temporary goodbye.
When I'm done watching this video, I am already looking forward to next saturday :D Love all your vids but especially the ones of my favourite band! Thank you Chase!
For the longest time, Tuomas has deserved the kind of detailed, understanding commentary that you are giving us about his compositional genius. It's one of those things that most of us Nightwish fans already half-understand, but haven't been able to put into words and thus keep taking for granted. So naturally we're just eating it up as you work through these reactions! I think we can all agree, we'd KILL to get Tuomas to sit down for an interview with you... any way we could make this happen??
'What a time to be alive'....very well said! I am so thankful that I've been blessed to know and revel in the musical genius that is Nightwish....may they all enjoy good health and musical longevity for their dedication to craft!!
This is how you open a show!!! This is one of my favorite Nightwish songs. It really showcases everyone’s musical talent. Kai’s consistency and skills as a drummer, Marko’s voice while keeping his bass line on point, Tuomas’s key work not only his writing talents (and seeing him have a blast with Emppu in that duel), Emppu’s solo (I love his solos...they are so melodic and “purposeful” as you said before (I love the speed picking at end and without a lot of delay/reverb so hard to hit that perfectly) , and what more can I say about Floor...just tremendous. I honestly am more impressed with how great she sounds on her lows as much as her high belts. To keep that much power and maintenance of tone/pitch on those lower notes is super impressive...and her stage presence IMHO is unparalleled...visually, vocally, crowd interactions, and the subtle movements and facial expressions etc that just make you melt but then right back to wanting to run through a wall when she windmills like a powerhouse!!! They are such an amazing band. Great reaction. Was so waiting for your face on the synth/guitar duel. Pre-look at the lyrics for TGSOE as some are hard to make out and these are some of my favorite lyrics (being the science/bio nerd I am). Stay safe 🤘
Ah, Shudder Before The Beautiful with breakfast. What a way to start my day! Chase, happy to hear you are getting closer to doing The Greatest Show on Earth. Love how you take your time so you can give it the respect and attention it deserves! Have a damn good day, Chase! 🤘☮💗
So, after Greatest Show you will no doubt want to hear some more from Troy. Consider doing My Walden live from Wembley, it's currently my favourite (though that changes every day).
Please react to the Greatest show on earth live in Tampere. Beacuse I think you can apreciate some tricks they used in that live (OPENAIR). You always give us a tecnical and profesional view point...and all of us need your view point of that live. Because it's perfect and because it's full of surprises and tecnical clever things. Belive me...trust me. Tampere!!
Kai just deafens us with endless love. There's a drum cam version of this with Kai going at it, calmly going MAD. This is another group masterpiece. Bliss!
The only thing I will say about next week. Don't mind about going back and if it takes an hour to do the review I won't care. In fact take two, I'll put my slippers on...
This song is so underrated, I just love the energy!! :) I really like that you're paying attention to so many details! Keep up the good work :) Can't wait for "The Greatest Show on Earth" ;)
“What a time to be alive...” my feelings exactly. Discovered Nightwish a couple years ago. I can’t get enough. Your reactions are by far the most informative and thoughtful I’ve seen. Keep up the great work!
I discovered Nightwish late. The first time I heard them I thought, "Wow, these guys are RUSH level tight. I know RUSH is an older band, but I would love to see your reaction to them as they are/were some of the finest musicians in the world. Also, how about some love for the lighting and FX engineers for Nightwish, their work is amazing.
Nightwish reaction, an instant way to brighten my Saturday. Still in awe how you are able to pick up so many things from a first listening. Keep up the wonderful work!

I just had to revisit this reaction that I saw when you first released it 2 years ago. Loved your reactions even more this time. This is probably one of the best Show Opener that I've seen and heard. Magical.
I needed this reaction today. Thank you, SO MUCH, for always delivering a genuine and thoughtful reaction. Seeing your enjoyment of Nightwish gives me more joy than you could possibly know.
Excellent reaction as always fella. Saturdays at 2pm used to be sitting in the pub before going to the football. Nowadays it is getting plugged into TH-cam and waiting for Chase to drop a Nightwish vid!! 🤘
This is how you open a show. Great lead into The Greatest Show on Earth. Nothing you hear or see is by accident. They polish everything. To give the best everytime.
Tampere - make sure to watch it ALL the way to the end; will make sense why at that point. Tremendous job analyzing (and teaching those who miss intricacies like myself) this one - best job of it I have seen.
You light up my Saturdays everytime I see you posted some more NW reactions, definitely best reactor on the platform! Honest reaction and educational additions about the music itself, it's really great watching these
Yes! it's indeed a great time to be alive! This is art! The song, the vocals, the instruments, the solo between Emppu and Tuomas, the visuals, the smoke, the moves, the passion! This Band should be considered ART!!!! Just saying! The greatest show on earth it's indeed a piece of art too, a masterpiece and you should react, i think, first to the Tampere version, but then react to the Wembley version because it's a little different and a very special one too, i must say that i love some elements of the song more in Wembley than Tampere. But yeah, react to the 2 versions please. They are masterpieces. Enjoy the show of Nightwish. I feel lucky to have the opportunity to see you react to Nightwish and to be able to catch and learn things that i never saw! Thank you!!! Be safe. Love for all! Cheers.
Have a damn good day! Saturdays are my favourite days it seems 😁 There is no option which version to choose for next song. It is Tampere live! That was their 20y show, so it's as much about the show itself as it is about the song. And the important part is that you watch the video all the way to the end. Ending is part of the song.
Brilliant reaction again! Really loving Nightwish Saturdays, best part of the week! Even more excited about next week now, it is an epic in every sense of the word, and I full expect Tampere to be the hands down winner of the poll, it really is the gold standard for The Greatest Show On Earth...
I think the only thing more poetic than a Nightwish song is your analysis of it, lol. Seriously man, stellar reaction once again. Please keep doing what you're doing, because I (and I'm sure many others) gravitate towards your videos over others. It's always satisfying to see a viewer's looks of shock and hear "it's so good!" But you take it a step further and offer so much more knowledge and genuine appreciation of the intricate details of the music - it's so refreshing! Thanks for taking the time to jam out with us! :)
I think the best description I've ever heard about them was in here, when you say, "it's frustrating how good they are." It really can be! Even if a song doesn't grab your fancy at first, finding the hidden gems within (lyrically, for example), you appreciate it. Great line.
I would like to suggest going all the way back to the End of an Era concert and reacting to their cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes." Tarja was taking a break during that song, so it's just Marco on vocals. Thanks for the reaction to and breakdown of this song. This was the opening song at Wembley, and what a way to hype up the crowd!
Thanks again for a fantastic reaction, Chase! I just love being educated on the musical flow and details you pick up on all the time! You mention it is a blessing to watch them, but it is a blessing too to watch them with your knowledgeable comments! It gives even more depth and meaning to the music, it becomes even more of a journey, just wow! Please keep it up! Kindest regards, Wim P.S.: You forgot to add this one to the NW playlist :).
New reaction from Chase Carneson! Oh yeah 💪 Everything you say or explain is just so interesting. Thank you. This is one of my favourite songs. Greatest Show on Earth: I would definitely go with the Tampere version. It's really a SHOW, amazing sound and lights and all so, so emotional. Can't wait!
Chase, I love watching your reactions. So expressive. XD I've been re-watching your NW reactions to cheer myself up on bad days, so keep up the good work! Can't wait for next week.
For the first acquaintance with the Greatest Show on Earth, I recommend only the Tampere version, as this concert took place in a spacious open arena. Visually and audibly, this version lives up to the song's title - the greatest show on earth. The Wembley version has its own unique charm, but the closed nature of the arena and the small size of the stage do not convey the greatness of this masterpiece.
You are such a great reactor - and your spontaneous "what a great time to be alive" are just spot on. And about this starter - great. Stood there waiting and anxious - and then this power start 61/2 minutes that felt like seconds - but the mind was completely ready, set go - up and running in the speed were the next 2 hours disappeared. Time doesn't exist in a Nightwish concert - you are just getting fed with music, tellings thoughts and the most incredible voices - plus a mind blowing Valkyrie that carefully takes you through the show including dancing, workouts and so on. Yep - you just wait - I am 62 and Nightwish concerts beats just about anything else. Your mind is "Nightwish high" in several days after, and from that day you must have a daily dose of Nightwish, to get started 🤣 I am so looking forward to see you "digest" The Greatest Show on Earth - from Tampere (and the lyrics vetsion). This is maybe their greatest masterpiece if such a thing exists. It's complexed in many ways and contains so many elements that shows our influence on the evolution. !!! And remember to play it to the end - the speaking is an important part of the song. And - remember to enjoy it - it is wonderful, deep and also reflects how important we humans are - or actually aren't.
This is the opening song of the first album (and tour) they did after Floor joined permanently, and also the show opener. (While Greatest Show on Earth is the respective finale. Of course they also link thematicly, even to the spoken words opening as well as closing everything.) What I find interesting is that since their beginning as a band, the sound and role of Empuu' guitar has evolved some, from a typical heavy metal / power metal lead guitarist to a slightly more supporting role with a more vintagy rock tone, while first the orchestrations (keys as well as real recorded orchestra) and later also Troy's sound colors took more room... Compare this song to maybe Wishmaster or Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean. Personally I really like that. Besides being far from a typical metal-band noise, him re-entering with that ringing chord at the key change in the verse (5:51 and again 7:47, here still powerful besides already known, since the verse is surprisingly shorter) is sooo satisfying within the whole composition And that synth/guitar duell is almost classic rock àla Deep Purple / Rainbow etc
I think this is one of the reason people love these guys so much. It's not just they put in the effort in the studio, but there is so much love and passion that goes into every single performance... It's almost like every show is their first and last at the same time, nothing is half-assed. I've been to one concert and it was an almost religious experience for me. By the end of it, I seriously started wondering if I should perhaps being praying to Floor. :D And yeah, dude, pause, rewind, do what you like. Do you boo. Also, you have a great ear and you always manage to point out something new for me in songs that I thought I knew by heart.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the band's sound engineering? All their live recordings sound SO GOOD and I love how much room they give to Marco's bass work.
Great reaction as usual! Chase, first of all, thanks for these amazing videos you do! It's being awesome to follow your Nightwish journey. Second, I want to suggest you something that I believe will also blow your mind. They're like the metal version of the Avengers. Let me explain better: what I'm about to recommend it's not really a band, but a conceptual project created by the dutchman mastermind Arjen Lucassen (composer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer, etc). In each of the albums, he invites the greatest singers and musicians to join him in creating something unique and exceptional. Just to prove I'm not lying, I have to mention that Floor and Marko from Nightwish are usual guests. The albums are in their majority telling a story where each singer plays a character and each song is a piece of the whole. There's so many masterpieces of Ayreon that is really a difficult task pick only one to introduce them to you, but a song that represents very well the concept and quality of their work is "The day that the world breaks down". This song features 11 singers (Floor included) and Arjen himself not only played guitar, bass and synthesizers, but also put some nice subtitles talking a bit about each one of the guests, the recording process and the song story. Ok, enough talking, here's the link: th-cam.com/video/oFuMKdrzPqU/w-d-xo.html Hope you read my comment, and hope even more that you accept this suggestion. I'm pretty sure you're going to enjoy it as much as I will enjoy to watch a Chase Carneson's react to one of my favorite "bands". Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷🤘
My goodness, they really know how to catch the audience's attention. What an explosive start for a great show This is absolutely one of my fav song from NW, 10/10 🤘 They are so good, no words to describe. Solo between Tuomas and Emppu 10/10 Kai on drums, 10/10 Marco on bass quitar, 10/10 Floor's performance, 10/10 Marco singing together with Floor, perfection, 10/10, they are just unbeatable duo. And finally, thank you again for your great reaction, 10/10 🤘👊
The show opener! I wonder what will be the new tour show opener? Normally they start with a bang but will they start with Music? That would be so different. Great reaction as always. There is never much talk about Emppu and yet his guitar work in some ways carries the live show as he is playing lead and rhythm if you like and the choices he makes as to when he is which are crucial to the sound of the song live. Even with Troy as a full band member Tuomas has chosen to use him to fill for other instruments in general rather than a second guitar layer and I really like that as I love the existing Nightwish live sound so much.
Thank you for this reaction on Shudder before the Beautiful but I can’t wait for your reaction on „The Greatest Show on Earth“, as I like them both, I would like to see and hear you react on the Tampere one, and all the way till the end.
You Sir killed the promise i made to myself when i created this youtube account: Never to leave a comment, ever. I lately really enjoy (re-)discovering music through reaction videos. Some of them are great because the joy of someone discovering your favourite band brings back memories of the time when i fell in love with them myself. Some of them are great because absolutely clueless non-musicans like me can learn about the inner workings of the compositions or be amazed when an expert explains why a certain feat a performer just accomplished is such a big deal. In my opinion you easily excel in both aspects. You have described this video as "another masterclass from Nightwish". I think masterclass is a fitting term: Your reactions are like the masterclass for listening to music ;-) I am shocked by the amount of details you can grasp on the first run. And i feel your appreciation for the effort and talent of the musicians more then i can feel it from any other reactor or expert. Luckily for the followers of your masterclass you are also a great teacher because you are able to put your great insight into words that everyone can understand. When you raise your eyebrows ... i ask myself what my ears missed that you just noticed. When you smile ... i am eagerly looking forward to the pause and the lesson. While you discover ... we learn. Thank you! Has the band "Iced Earth" already appeared on your reaction radar? I would love to see you react to them. They introduced me to Heavy Metal (together with Blind Guardian, which i also highly recommend). Someone (unfortunately i cannot remember the source) described Iced Earth as "Lovechild of (Iron) Maiden, (Black) Sabbath and (Judas) Priest meets Thrash Metal". The Band had quite alot of lineup changes. But Jon Schaffer (Rhythm Guitar) always has been the driving force behind Iced Earth. The lineup for the 1999 Live in Athens Concert is widely considered their best. Although the video quality might not always be the best i still think that you as a former touring guitarist will enjoy these versions. Therefore my suggestions would be: - Travel in Stygian - th-cam.com/video/kL8QGC3GXNs/w-d-xo.html - Desert Rain - th-cam.com/video/auVlddyN4zk/w-d-xo.html - Dantes Inferno (16 Minutes long, but well worth it) - th-cam.com/video/KKABLbWbUPM/w-d-xo.html Greetings from Austria and have a damn good day!
Really appreciate you taking the time to write this. So glad you're enjoying this and also that you broke your promsie haha. Thanks for the support and reccomendations
What an absolute joy, it's such a thrill to see you join in on the journey with us! (how about those effects on this one? I genuinely don't believe I've seen the sparks used like that in any other performance!) Shudder before the beautiful is a fantastic song, and one that doesn't get played NEARLY enough. I swear, I have to wind myself up like a toy figurine to headbang hard enough to match the absolute unyielding ferocity of this song. I totally agree with you, Chase, Empuu's soloist stylings were very much coming from a rock and roll background in this. I don't know if it's been addressed before, but I know for a fact that both he and Kai have a tendency to work in riffs and runs from bands that they respect Into their songwriting. It's almost a fun little game in itself: who wrote the riff? 😂 I know that Pantera, slayer, toto, and Metallica have all been referenced, though I'm sure there are many, MANY more that I havent caught yet! Additionally, I added on to another person's comment, but I'll include it in my own. My vote for Greatest Show on Earth is Tampere. It's a landmark show for the band, and they pull out ALL the stops on that one. The new release is fantastic, and I encourage you to check it out afterwards, but watch Tampere, and watch it until the final end credits stop rolling. That's the end of the *actual* song, with some spoken word recitation at the end by Richard Dawkins, as it is presented on the album. It's beautiful, poignant, and you get to see some of the band's personalities when they aren't in "performance" mode.
I personally think Empuu is a very under-rated guitarist. He doesn't need to do all kinds of shredding and insanely long solos. He just has a skill that is only obtained by years of playing in a killer band.
Yeah, he is so well controlled and delivers consistency which is, imo, harder than freestyling!
considering he plays rhythm consistently AND lead - WOW!
I liked that he likes to play around with Megadeth, Metallica and Iron Maiden's riffs to add some fun to the songs.
Agree with Phelan, though I really enjoy the “perks” too.
Totally agree about the lyrics; the location and the atmosphere also make the Tampere show my first choice. However, the new version from the Wembley concert is amazing - you can hear every little detail... so why not both :D
This!
Man, you can pause, rewind, and pause again as many times as you'd like. You _always_ have a comment, thought, or insight that's worth listening to. This! Every reaction shows at least one nuance I missed to each song. Love rediscovering the songs through your insights
@@BOOMBiggityBam I have thought that myself many times. Thank you for saying it
"I know it's a long song, but I wanna go back to the beginning. I hope you don't mind,"
Sounds like you forgot who you were talking to. To Nightwish fans 6½ minutes is not a long song, it's a song of average length xD
Haha true this.
Fact. Under 8 mins is medium length.
Commenting before actually watching the reaction: my vote for next week (which I am so hyped for!) is the Tampere performance.
Ditto. Both are great, but Tampere is definitive in my opinion, it's just an incredible show. Once in a lifetime quality.
Gets my vote, too.. for all the reasons already mentioned. Chase reacts/analysis better than any reactor & I can't wait!!
That's why I'm here too. Definitely Tampere version.
Fantastic reaction as always. It always amazes me how much you're able to process and analyze with just one listen. One of my favorite songs by Nightwish. Such a hype song. Only one for this one, turn it to 11 😁
Tampere before the pole.
The era of Nightwish. What a time to be alive indeed
I was there, front row. I waited at least 7 hours to get it, It was absolutely a dream. Everything was perfect.
My envy is immense. LOL. I've had the pleasure of being 2nd row at a smaller venue for Nightwish but this particular show is something I could only daydream of! I hope you had an absolute blast ♥️♥️♥️
Not gonna lie - mildly jealous... :)
When Floor commands you to chant....you F'ing chant. She is basically a 6'1" Goddess of Valkery's, with a voice of magic. Her crowd control is insane because of her open honesty, she just genuinely seems humble and so so happy to be giving of her talent.
18:01 “what a time to be alive!”
So grateful for Tuomas, Floor and Nightwish. Their passion, our enjoyment. 💜
Feels lonely in the comments without ann's presence.......
May she rest in peace wherever she is! 🙏❤️
Wait what?! What happened?
Amen!
@@Miichou34 She passed away.😭💔
Barbara Vance Oh god no... She was such a nice loving person, always spreading kindness and joy everywhere! I wish I had the chance to get to know her a little... May her pure soul rest in peace. All my prayers go to her loved ones 🙏
The Nightwish Army will cherish her memory!!
Never a truer statement .... 💔🌌
"Good evening to you! London! Wembley Arena!" Ohhh can't wait til' December 😁 Gotta love that solo battle between Tuomas and Emppu. Like you said Chase, "What a time to be alive."
I get pamped every time I hear that part on the song!!! \m/ \m/ \m/
@@Wriwnas1 Right? Me too! 😆
I'd love to see them in LA on September 11th, but already blew my money to see Rammstein...and it got rescheduled to Sept 2021 😑
I hope you actually get to go. My show in September is most likely a no go because of Covid.
I'm hopeful for December, too, but I suspect it will be postponed.
'I want to go back, I hope you don't mind...'
The man's crazy.
Who will mind?
Actually I minded a lot. He didn’t go back far enough 😂
Ikr?
Greatest Show: Nothing can beat the anniversary celebration in open air at Tampere in terms of full experience! Make sure you keep listening as they bow, and as the credits roll. I'll be watching to see how many historic songs you can catch embedded in the work, and I'm betting you'll both catch and appreciate more than most!
Shudder BTB: absolutely amazing reaction (as usual)! I enjoyed every minute of it (except the ads that just wouldn't quit). What a great start to the weekend! Thank you so much!
That is the best comment regarding to Nightwish reactions that I have heard: "what a time to be alive". Well said mate.
I really appreciate this. I kinda get lost in it all haha.
I'm a simple man. You like Nigthwish, you like Floor, you said YOU GREW UP LIKING KISS. Dude, as far as I know, you're a bro I would go to a concert with.
Here's my sub.
What a legend!!!! Can't wait for live music again
"it's frustrating how good they are". The perfect description of their music :)
Shudder Before the Beautiful live at Wembley… one of the best concert openings I’ve ever seen.
Ladies and gentleman…start your engines. The show has begun.😀🤘
What a “blow your mind” way to start a show!
Every now an then you might just see the lights shining of my now follicly challenged head :-)
For an opener Shudder Before The Beautiful was fantastic and certainly grabs the audience's attention in a way I have rarely witnessed in my 40+ years of going to gigs.
To open with that and close with The Greatest Show On Earth.... wow.
1:29
"cool"
*gets startled by the start of the song*
Idk why but I loved that
"What a time to be alive" indeed Chase.
Peace.
I think the Wembley version of TGSOE has better audio but Tampere is just... an experience. Both are amazing to watch but I'd vote for Tampere
Yes. For me, Tampere version is more polished, has more energy, it flows better than the Wembley version, especially when it comes to the vocals. Troy's intro with the guitar is beautiful in Wembley version, though.
Totally agree! The overall experience of Tampere gets me everytime :)
My favorite is the Buenos Aires version, even if it doesn't have the last part, as it does a better job of showing the 3 singers both in terms of audio mix and camera work.
Gotta agree. Tampere.
@@godcaoss omg omg omg - i have an idea - do both!
This whole album is so contagious! 🤩
Ah the first Nightwish song I ever heard! Love it.
That "We love Troy's massive pipes!" banner 😆 Britons love him.
@@pedjavukmirovic6770 That's cute, troll. Try harder next time.
@@pedjavukmirovic6770 Not sure if that was an attempt to demean Troy's talent or provoking xenophobia and homophobia, or all in one- but that is definitely the most obnoxious statement out of this whole commentary section. Not even a smidgen of humor in there.
@@pedjavukmirovic6770 Sorry dude but you'd make a shit comedian. That joke was lame af.
In the dictionary, under "Consistency", the first definition should read "Floor Jansen". Not only is she consistently excellent professionally, but the more I have got to know her through her videos on her TH-cam channel, the more it becomes apparent that it carries through to her approach to life and her personal philosophy.
Actually, the whole band is very very consistent. They are masters of their craft.
The visuals at Wembley are clearer because the cameras are up close to the band, and I like the intro with Troy on guitar.
Also, I think Tampere is way more polished despite the new version having a better mixing (and it is also a slightly different arrangement in some parts).
@@ChrisPage68 I like it, too. But I find that Tampere has more energy, it flows better.
This was my favourite Nightwish opening song ever! Until Music... Cannot wait to see that live
The look on your face when Floor went quiet - exceptional!! Great reaction!
The instrumental part with the crowd chanting Hey Hey! Makes me think about an army of Orcs getting ready for battle
You know, I constantly rewatch your reactions. I have seen Nightwish, 8 times that also includes Wacken 2013. You and Tank are amazing to learn from.
Stay safe 🤘
I really love Emppu's tone, it has loads of gain yet it's so clear and round. Beautiful.
Couldn't agree more
Ah, Shudder Before The Beautiful with breakfast.
Tampere!!
Exactly!
The Greatest Show on Earth. For all I love the Wembley version I prefer the Tampere.version for Troy’s input and the overall show itself
Yes but it doesnt have the haunting guitar in the beginning it richard Dawkins
Kai just deafens us with endless love. There's a drum cam version of this with Kai going at it, calmly going MAD. This is another group masterpiece. Bliss!
The only thing I will say about next week.
Don't mind about going back and if it takes an hour to do the review I won't care. In fact take two, I'll put my slippers on...
I don't think I've seen a bigger smile on your face than you had during that solo duel!!
Just re-re-rewatchted this with pleaseure. Hope you're keeping well, Chase
what a time to be alive...!!
This song is so underrated, I just love the energy!! :) I really like that you're paying attention to so many details! Keep up the good work :) Can't wait for "The Greatest Show on Earth" ;)
I agree with your analysis
Every week I look forward to your reaction on a Nightwish song. Likethe information and enthusiasm
Chase: "Oh, Floor...."
Me: (handling him another beer): "Yeah, dude... I know"....
😂🍻
This makes me happy. Glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent reaction as always fella. Saturdays at 2pm used to be sitting in the pub before going to the football. Nowadays it is getting plugged into TH-cam and waiting for Chase to drop a Nightwish vid!! 🤘
The greatest show on earth MUST be Tamperes version. It Will be very sad if you dont do Tamperes. Thats the BEST vídeo on TH-cam ever
Tuomas has actually described that he sees the music piece as a whole with each instrument, makes a rough draft and the completes it with the band.
Saturdays are my favourite days it seems 😁
There is no option which version to choose for next song.
It is Tampere live! That was their 20y show, so it's as much about the show itself as it is about the song.
And the important part is that you watch the video all the way to the end. Ending is part of the song.
You said it... “ohhh Floor!”
Top reactions! Thanks!🤟
I truly do appreciate this. Thank you for the kind words and support
I please hope you will do the Tampere version, and please watch it till the very end of the credits
Great reaction as allways, to keep up the diversity I suggest "Weak Fantasy", "Dead Boys Poem" and "Ghost River".
Yes! I'm really looking foward to watch your reaction to Dead Boy's Poem from Buenos Aires concert 💛
+1 for all three of these!!
"What a great time to be alive!"
Yes sir!
I think the best description I've ever heard about them was in here, when you say, "it's frustrating how good they are." It really can be! Even if a song doesn't grab your fancy at first, finding the hidden gems within (lyrically, for example), you appreciate it.
Great line.
And this is first song of Setlist. Band comes all in and people go nuts 🙂👍
Kindest regards, Wim
P.S.: You forgot to add this one to the NW playlist :).
Great choice and beautiful reaction Chase! Thank you!
I really love this song! So beautifully written and those lyrics...
Thank you for watching and supporting.
I so love your reactions on every nightwish performance.
I learn so much from every time.
I'm a fan of nightwish but I'm even more a fan of yours
Wow, thank you Barbara, they're the real artists, I'm just a fan like all of you. Appreciate the support.
XD
I've been re-watching your NW reactions to cheer myself up on bad days, so keep up the good work! Can't wait for next week.
This makes me happy. Really glad they cheer you up on tough days. Hang in there. It's crazy right now but we will get there.
As always, a super enjoyable reaction, thank you ❤
Again, great analysis, great band, great song ...
I was there which was amazing but even more so was I had actually met the band backstage right before this gig..best day of my life ❤
You are such a great reactor - and your spontaneous "what a great time to be alive" are just spot on.
Your mind is "Nightwish high" in several days after, and from that day you must have a daily dose of Nightwish, to get started 🤣
I am so looking forward to see you "digest" The Greatest Show on Earth - from Tampere (and the lyrics vetsion).
So glad that you did this one, one of my top 5 favorite Nightwish songs!
Chase, WE DON'T MIND GOING BACK.
Just another great breakdown, can't wait to next week.
Same same. Thank you
This is the opening song of the first album (and tour) they did after Floor joined permanently, and also the show opener. (While Greatest Show on Earth is the respective finale. Of course they also link thematicly, even to the spoken words opening as well as closing everything.)
What I find interesting is that since their beginning as a band, the sound and role of Empuu' guitar has evolved some, from a typical heavy metal / power metal lead guitarist to a slightly more supporting role with a more vintagy rock tone, while first the orchestrations (keys as well as real recorded orchestra) and later also Troy's sound colors took more room...
Compare this song to maybe Wishmaster or Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean.
Personally I really like that. Besides being far from a typical metal-band noise, him re-entering with that ringing chord at the key change in the verse (5:51 and again 7:47, here still powerful besides already known, since the verse is surprisingly shorter) is sooo satisfying within the whole composition
And that synth/guitar duell is almost classic rock àla Deep Purple / Rainbow etc
"What a time to be alive." I felt that.. Can't wait for next week!
This song, after my first listen when it came out 5 years ago, instantly became one of my 15 favorite songs of all time.
Thanks, Tuomas, for again teaching us the importance of pauses, that the silence is part of the music... 👌🎼
Makes so mutch meaning right ? The silence after Mozart is still Mozart.
And yeah, dude, pause, rewind, do what you like.
Ok, enough talking, here's the link:
th-cam.com/video/oFuMKdrzPqU/w-d-xo.html
Hope you read my comment, and hope even more that you accept this suggestion. I'm pretty sure you're going to enjoy it as much as I will enjoy to watch a Chase Carneson's react to one of my favorite "bands".
Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷🤘
My goodness, they really know how to catch the audience's attention. What an explosive start for a great show
This is absolutely one of my fav song from NW, 10/10 🤘 They are so good, no words to describe.
Solo between Tuomas and Emppu 10/10
Kai on drums, 10/10
Marco on bass quitar, 10/10
Floor's performance, 10/10
Marco singing together with Floor, perfection, 10/10, they are just unbeatable duo.
I think masterclass is a fitting term: Your reactions are like the masterclass for listening to music ;-)
I am shocked by the amount of details you can grasp on the first run.
Therefore my suggestions would be:
- Travel in Stygian - th-cam.com/video/kL8QGC3GXNs/w-d-xo.html
- Desert Rain - th-cam.com/video/auVlddyN4zk/w-d-xo.html

Greetings from Austria and have a damn good day!
Really appreciate you taking the time to write this. So glad you're enjoying this and also that you broke your promsie haha. Thanks for the support and reccomendations
What an absolute joy, it's such a thrill to see you join in on the journey with us! (how about those effects on this one? I genuinely don't believe I've seen the sparks used like that in any other performance!)
Shudder before the beautiful is a fantastic song, and one that doesn't get played NEARLY enough.
I know that Pantera, slayer, toto, and Metallica have all been referenced, though I'm sure there are many, MANY more that I havent caught yet!
Thank you Chase. Awesome job as always. 👍 😁
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed
It's always a pleasure to hear your comments.
