CHASE WILL GO DOWN HE WILL DROWN DROWN, DEEPER DOWN Kidding aside, this was one of the NW songs that I only came to really appreciate when Floor took the reins. The back-and-forth between Marko and Floor on vocals, with Floor harmonizing higher in the back and hitting the bridge: after listening to this properly for the first time with Wacken 2013, I found myself singing 'do come across' randomly lol Anyhow, I'm excited to see the inflections and touches in this song that you no doubt will bring attention to! Edit: Chase, I also hoped you noticed how Emppu is almost always all over the place in concerts. Some of my favorite highlights in Wacken 2013 is how you can see Emppu and Floor playing 'tag' on stage, or Emppu messing with the band's equipment mid-song (I forgot which song on Wacken 2013 but there's a shot of Floor looking behind her, laughing, while Emppu passes and she has a hand on her back trying to cover the controls to her in-ear because she knows Emppu's about to mess with it again). Of course, Floor gets back at this by switching Emppu's beer with apple juice (which he hates).
@@jessicakoster2543 There is a video out there with some backstage views and it shows a crew member swapping out his Corona and then Emppu spewing a mouthful after taking a swig. I don't know if it was apple juice or vodka they put in it. The video was shot in the Tarja days so Emppu pranking seems to have a long history. Unfortunately I have not been able to find the video again. In another video, as the song was ending, Floor was standing on Tuomas' riser. Just as the last few notes ring out, she turns to Tuomas and says something. Tuomas nearly falls over laughing. Something had gone down, we have no idea what. In the Hartwell concert, Floor chases Emppu across the stage and he takes refuge on Troy's riser, refusing to come down. We can imagine Floor calling him a chicken for running away as she tries to coax him down. Always watch for the interplay between Floor and Emppu.
It's not just Floor that Emppu is messing around with. In "Ghost Love Score" Live in Costa Rica you can see Emppu pretending to re-tune Marko's bass guitar 😁

So far I haven't seen video material about the apple juice but I remember it being a topic on Nightwish reddit and on TH-cam comments from when the older Wacken 2013 performance videos were still up (before they got taken down and had to be reuploaded; I think it was 2014)
The one comment I need to make: Keep enjoying the music first, no matter what you do to please us. We will be there, I might not the like some songs of other bands and I might not like a song from Nightwish (and I do not like one in particular, but that is on me), just keep enjoying what YOU do.
Would like to chime in with a few comment to this brilliant reaction and analazys: Floor: Her vocal technique was by then and still is so consumate that she herself must use the instrument that is her physical body and it´s ability to produce sound more or less as a fine tuned race car. By that I mean that she has all of her technical capabilities so ingrained into her physical self that she is no longer in need of deliberate and conscious decision making as to what expression should come out of her while performing. She is at the technical state where everything she utters simply comes out of her unstrained whatever the emotional content she is wanting to communicate. Thus her shifting between different stylistic trademarks has by now become second nature to her and she is unhindered in expressing it,- she simply just feels the content and meaning of the sounds she´s supposed to make at that particular spot in the song and out it comes,- like children speaking ,crying, laughing, yelling and singing without tensioning up in their bodies and souls. Floor performing is at the same state of being,- just with the full consciousness of a grown adult,- which makes is so powerful and compelling Emppu: An old blues guitarist once expressed it like this: " It takes about ten years to learn how to play the guitar,- then it takes ten more to learn when not to." Emppu is the embodiment of this thought. As a guitar player Emppu is in many ways any song based band´s wet dream of a guitarist. A competent and dedicated musician whos doesn´t use his time on stage to flaunt his rock star guitar hero status all over the place trying to steal the spotlight from whatever else is gioing on. Nightwish is on stage a group effort,- were Emppu not there the music would lack his incredible stability in performance level as well as his stage prescence. He´s an awesome guitarist at an ulta high professional performance level. As this song clearly shows more than once. What more is,- when the occasion calls for it,- he shreds the guitar to pieces without even thinking about it.

Her and Troy had already been asked to become permanent at this point. The band just wanted to keep it quiet for a while. I personally believe it is a part of why the Wacken performance was so special, that they finally knew this was their future!

Your reactions are just so damn good. Actually, Emppu's rhythm guitar pieces are sometimes very challenging since he often plays riffs that people tend to play with single string but he plays them 3 note power chords. Dark Chest of Wonders is a great example of that.
Emppu putting the music first. Yup. He might be one of the few guitarists out there that is very high on musical professionalism when it comes to playing combining it with a total lack and disregard for what i call guitar gymnastics. He will do powerstance of course. But that is basically it. Because he doesn't need it. What he does need is the interaction with the fans and the band to make it fun. No guitar joggling, no acrobatics. A bloody good guitarist.

I must have listened to this song hundreds of times by now and did not pick up on some of the stuff you talked about. Every time, haha! I do hope that at some point you have a listen to studio versions of Imaginaerum songs. Rest Calm is a really good one, as there is no decent live performance of it but there's also a lot to unpack.

I would actually love it if you would ever do a reaction to the whole Imaginaerum album. Anette isn't my favorite singer but she did such a fantastic job on that album. When I first heard the intro to "Slow love slow" i thought "never ever can she sing something like that" but she did and it sounds great. Her bright and "youthful" voice gives the right edge of madness and craziness to songs like Ghost River and (especially) Scaretale, but she also has this gentleness when singing Turn Loose The Mermaids or The Crow, The Owl And The Dove. It's brilliant.
'Dark Chest of Wonders' is another great song from Wacken 2013, it was the first song, an amazing start of the show 😉 Although if you want more of Emppu you should check out 'Stargazers'(live in Tampere).
One of Floor's least talked about skills, but also one of her best, is her ability to be a backing vocal or backing instrument. She will take the backseat for the music, same as Emppu. Same as everyone in the band honestly. Also I think Ghost River was the song that Emppu would turn off Floor's in ear monitor for, so in some video's you can see her do a little spinning "dance" to keep an eye on him when he moves across the stage. This behavior came before or after Floor switch his beer with apple juice.
You just have to check High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover) from the End of Era concert ... longer solos for Emppu to show his skills and Marko just nails the vocals.

great reaction again chase thanx :) little fact finish heavy metal. it´s year 1985 and first 2 heavy metal bands start in finland, stone and tarot. tarot band build marko hietala and his brother. so marko hietala is the face in finland heavy metal and grand old man :) 1996 tuomas holopainen start nightwish band and finnish first female heavy metal singer tarja turunen start(pioneer also in finland and world also). soon these 2 was same band,how´s cool is that. when other countrys was nirvana mania in 90´s,finland stay metal mania. today finland have world record still,that how many heavy bands we have. number is now 70 bands/ every 100000 people,almoust 4000 heavy bands to 5,5 million people country. you see already that tarot song there,so very good. have great day there and soon new week.
Totally agree! The closest we’ve had so far is the beautiful acoustic rendition of How’s the Heart. I can only imagine how great Noise and the others from the new album will sound live.
That harmony between Marko and Floor is really, really awesome in this song. I have to say though, it was my favourite one in the Anette-era also. Shows what a beast of a vocalist Marko is.
This is Nightwish’s best under-the-radar song, I think. It’s just so good! I love the overall vibe of melancholic, creepy and beautiful, sometimes all at once. The overlay of vocals is brilliant. The catchy poppy riff mixed in with the ugly metal guitar is also very special. And then there’s Floor’s spiraling vocals in the middle. This is the kind of song that only one band could have written, and that’s them.
I have a suggestion, since we all enjoyed your double reaction to How's the heart. Maybe you would like to react to the evolution of Nightwish. The song Kinslayer is recorded several times with Tarja. For example live DVD From wishes to eternity, filmed in 2000. Recently Floor sang it in Buenos Aires 2019. I think they both show how talented they were 20 years ago but also how much they've grown and evolved.

Just watched your first Nightwish reaction /ghost love score) after this actual one, so awesome to see that again. You were kinda blown away and you never lost the way you are amazed again and again after so many songs. So beautiful to watch that older stuff again.
Next "Last Ride of the Day". Or at least, when you feel like you have reacted to most of that Wacken concert, you must end with a reaction of the last son "Last Ride of the Day". Sad story: I personally love that song, I had a dog who was 12 yo, but she was very sick and after a month of several vets and drugs, she just was suffering. And while I was carrying her to the vet to put her down, I listened to that song just to give me the strength to do what was best for her.
I've said this in a comment before, but I absolutely appreciate how much credit you keep giving Emppu. For most TH-camrs reacting to Nightwish, I've always felt like Emppu wasn't getting nowhere near enough love and attention as he deserves. And I suppose it's largely due to the fact that he never plays to his ego. He could easily steal the show, any time he likes, but he never does because he always serves the song, the band, the music. I luuuuuuurve his riffs. I luuuurve his melodic solos. And I love how they're never overdone. He seems to always hit that sweet spot where he never does more or less than it's needed to give any song he's playing its due. Side note: on Endless Forms Most Beautiful (I mean the titular song on the album) he does my single most favourite riff ever. It's just gold. You should totes react to it as well~!
Chase, I'd reccomend reacting to MaYaN - Saints Don't Die, The Rhythm of Freedom & War on Terror (that band is related to EPICA, btw). The lyrics are also an important part of the experience when it comes to that band.

The Imaginaerum album (where this song comes from) holds a special place in my heart, having been my introduction to Nightwish and something that really helped me in difficult times.

there are 2 I am surprised to see you havent done yet. Epica Sancta Terra ft floor of course but for another live nightwish song I want my tears back from Buenos aires 2019 (imo even better there than in wacken or wembley) is a must. Troy gets some spotlighting, some epic Floor dancing and a totally bonkers crowd. Its a gem and an experience!
floor is incredible i honestly dont think theres nothing she cant do. she also covered in her earlier group after forever a cover of hearts alone song. omg blew me away. also her doing the phamtom of the opera absolutely beautiful and the songs she does in other languages, she blows me away. hope u get to check them out.

I do hope that at some point you have a listen to studio versions of Imaginaerum songs. Rest Calm is a really good one, as there is no decent live performance of it but there's also a lot to unpack.

I would actually love it if you would ever do a reaction to the whole Imaginaerum album. Anette isn't my favorite singer but she did such a fantastic job on that album. When I first heard the intro to "Slow love slow" i thought "never ever can she sing something like that" but she did and it sounds great. Her bright and "youthful" voice gives the right edge of madness and craziness to songs like Ghost River and (especially) Scaretale, but she also has this gentleness when singing Turn Loose The Mermaids or The Crow, The Owl And The Dove. It's brilliant.

'Dark Chest of Wonders' is another great song from Wacken 2013, it was the first song, an amazing start of the show 😉

Do also the very early era songs ... starting the demo...so you get better and much deeper picture about them.
One of Floor's least talked about skills, but also one of her best, is her ability to be a backing vocal or backing instrument. She will take the backseat for the music, same as Emppu. Same as everyone in the band honestly.
Also I think Ghost River was the song that Emppu would turn off Floor's in ear monitor for, so in some video's you can see her do a little spinning "dance" to keep an eye on him when he moves across the stage. This behavior came before or after Floor switch his beer with apple juice.

You just have to check High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover) from the End of Era concert ... longer solos for Emppu to show his skills and Marko just nails the vocals.

great reaction again chase thanx :) little fact finish heavy metal. it´s year 1985 and first 2 heavy metal bands start in finland, stone and tarot. tarot band build marko hietala and his brother. so marko hietala is the face in finland heavy metal and grand old man :) 1996 tuomas holopainen start nightwish band and finnish first female heavy metal singer tarja turunen start(pioneer also in finland and world also). soon these 2 was same band,how´s cool is that. when other countrys was nirvana mania in 90´s,finland stay metal mania. today finland have world record still,that how many heavy bands we have. number is now 70 bands/ every 100000 people,almoust 4000 heavy bands to 5,5 million people country. you see already that tarot song there,so very good. have great day there and soon new week.

Totally agree! The closest we’ve had so far is the beautiful acoustic rendition of How’s the Heart. I can only imagine how great Noise and the others from the new album will sound live.

That harmony between Marko and Floor is really, really awesome in this song. I have to say though, it was my favourite one in the Anette-era also. Shows what a beast of a vocalist Marko is.

This is Nightwish’s best under-the-radar song, I think. It’s just so good! I love the overall vibe of melancholic, creepy and beautiful, sometimes all at once. The overlay of vocals is brilliant. The catchy poppy riff mixed in with the ugly metal guitar is also very special. And then there’s Floor’s spiraling vocals in the middle. This is the kind of song that only one band could have written, and that’s them.

I have a suggestion, since we all enjoyed your double reaction to How's the heart.
Maybe you would like to react to the evolution of Nightwish. The song Kinslayer is recorded several times with Tarja. For example live DVD From wishes to eternity, filmed in 2000. Recently Floor sang it in Buenos Aires 2019.
I think they both show how talented they were 20 years ago but also how much they've grown and evolved.

Sad story: I personally love that song, I had a dog who was 12 yo, but she was very sick and after a month of several vets and drugs, she just was suffering. And while I was carrying her to the vet to put her down, I listened to that song just to give me the strength to do what was best for her.
Another good option is to combine Last Rid of the Day with the Greatest show on Earth because they played those end-to-end during the Tampere show.

I've said this in a comment before, but I absolutely appreciate how much credit you keep giving Emppu. For most TH-camrs reacting to Nightwish, I've always felt like Emppu wasn't getting nowhere near enough love and attention as he deserves. And I suppose it's largely due to the fact that he never plays to his ego. He could easily steal the show, any time he likes, but he never does because he always serves the song, the band, the music. I luuuuuuurve his riffs. I luuuurve his melodic solos. And I love how they're never overdone.
He seems to always hit that sweet spot where he never does more or less than it's needed to give any song he's playing its due.
Side note: on Endless Forms Most Beautiful (I mean the titular song on the album) he does my single most favourite riff ever. It's just gold. You should totes react to it as well~!

The Imaginaerum album (where this song comes from) holds a special place in my heart, having been my introduction to Nightwish and something that really helped me in difficult times.

there are 2 I am surprised to see you havent done yet. Epica Sancta Terra ft floor of course but for another live nightwish song I want my tears back from Buenos aires 2019 (imo even better there than in wacken or wembley) is a must. Troy gets some spotlighting, some epic Floor dancing and a totally bonkers crowd. Its a gem and an experience!
floor is incredible i honestly dont think theres nothing she cant do. she also covered in her earlier group after forever a cover of hearts alone song. omg blew me away. also her doing the phamtom of the opera absolutely beautiful and the songs she does in other languages, she blows me away. hope u get to check them out.

Thank you Chase for all your reaction. I think since i hear you , my english was better and better and i am a 64 y old man. 😃 Emppu, the most underrated gitarrist in the world. Ihear him from the beginning from Nightwish, he can play everything, but he don`t want to be a poser. He play what he must to play by Nightwish, but his potential is so much more and he the fun factor in this Band. The jokes between Floor and him are awesome.
