Genuinely.. this is one of those videos where you feel like you are receiving a gift, it is that good. An absolutely awe inspiring experience. Thank you.
And there are other other options with crazy bang for buck. I'll happily suggest the Marshall Jackhammer, which similarly needs a 0.005mm tweak on each knob to acheive God status...or a horrible sound.
Simon seems like a genuinely lovely human. His song at the end really got me - such an earnest performance. Really moving - thanks for sharing him with us!
This was great. Simon exemplifies what I most love about British musicians and artists, and what is the anthithesis of 'celebrity'culture'. No constructed personality or fashionable affectations. Just a down-to-earth, articulate and sweet-natured guy who loves what he does and wants to share it. Inspiring and comforting at the same time. Thanks all.
That was just fabulous fun. Also, on the off chance that Simon reads these - my 10 year old daughter & I were in a record shop for one of the record store days back in the summer, I was buying bits & pieces and out of the blue she asked me to get her the new Biffy album (on gorgeous blue vinyl too). I saw the band live years ago at Milton Keynes, great outdoor gig, but hadn’t heard much recent stuff, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. We brought it home, she put it on the hifi, I had to wince through a few choice Anglo Saxon words 🤣 ( I guess she hears it at school ) ... but my god it sounded house-shakingly *epic* (Cop Syrup in particular)... And now my daughter is picking away at a little nylon acoustic I bought her... and when she’s ready for a Metal Zone I’ll be there for her. (Probably still find one for £75, too). More power to your right arm, sir.
What a lovely fella. An absolute monster and beast onstage, and a gentle, fun, friendly, genuine guy every other moment and even mixed together. Biffy are totally unique and phenomenal.
I'm in the US and am just now getting into this band. They should be huge here but they aren't yet. Let's make it happen. I want to see them live. Thanks for this video!
A few years ago they played in philly in a tiny old venue as if theyre not HUGE from where they’re from. It was INSANE! When they come around the US please don’t miss them you gotta experience the biff, especially in a venue and not a big stadium sitting super far away
I just want to say, that at 15:37 in I've paused the video and gone to iTunes to purchase several Biffy Clyro albums without even listening to anything else haha. Never heard of Simon or his band before but as always you guys have amazing guests and help expand my music knowledge. Always cool seeing such genuine moments from the TPS team and the guests. So freakin' great. Much love!
Dudes!! I normally thank you for all the knowledge/info/wisdom... but today, I'd hug the three of you! I'd never heard Biffy Clyro before!! They're amazing!! I'm having such a blast listening to them now! Tomorrow, the drive to work and back is gonna be soooo interesting. As you say: Massive thanks!!!!
A genuine lad, a unique and talented song writer, need more artists like this in the world. Ive always been a fan and i still remember moving to england and hearing living is a problem because everyone dies on a t.v somewherel and thinking '' man, what the hell was that''
Absolute legend of a man This video has made me be able to listen to biffy again after 11 years, my daughter passed and at the time i was big on the puzzles album, machines was playing when I carried her in to the church and I was broken for a very long time, had “I would dig a thousand holes to lay next to you, I would dig a thousand more if I needed to” inked on my chest and I could not listen to biffy since.this video popped us and I watched it, I listened to machines again and didn’t cry or run….. Awesome video, Simon is amazing as are you guys…… biffy being played all day tomorrow to catch up
F**in' lesson - song writing, sound, intelligence, and humility. Thank you Simon for being so wonderfully humble and gracious, and by sharing your concept of what music should be, being a massive song writing inspiration. The way these guys go about music is proper. How it should be done.
I dearly love listening to people like Simon, Devin and lee malia on your show. You get more out of them than most interviewers. I hope you can do more in the future by whatever means. How they think about sound, how they think of a songwriting. It’s mega inspiring
Simon Neil is such an interesting and positive guy, this is a great interview and what a fantastic format for future interviews, ending with a song was a real gift, thanks everyone.
Everything about Simon is just so open and honest. The sound, the songwriting, the interviews. It's all just saturated goodness backed by clean, open honesty. The fact that still resonates so well with people makes is brilliant. Cheers guys.
I must confess i've never listened so much of biffy's material before thi ñs episode, but after seeing how true and honest simon is, i found myself actually enjoying their songs. Great.
Best "guest show" you guys have ever made. Full credit to you. What an honest, in depth and truly wonderful interview / programme. Thanks guys - to everyone involved. Feel blessed for watching. Rock on! x
I had never heard of Simon or Biffy until watching and no doubt I’m now a huge fan. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so inspired before. That acoustic song, beautiful, I honestly shed tears. Cheers and well done.
This was a great show. A friend showed me a Biffy Clyro album just a few months ago and I was blown away by the heavy and soft songs. Simon really is a genuine musician and guitar player.
I must have watched this video 5 times + since released at minimum. Simon is a true artist who I could listen to all day and a lovely lad all round. Massive props to Churd for taking us through the pedal and just like the rest of the Biffy boys is a true gentleman. Great content and great interview Dan & Mick!
I`ve had the pleasure of seeing Biffy here in Slovenia a few years back in a relatively small venue (around 2000 capacity) and it was just as Dan described it - the communal experience of singing those anthemic choruses together with the crowd just brought me on the verge of tears every time!!Bring back the art of the chorus indeed. And the band was loud as hell!Great show, gents,it was truly a pleasure to watch!
Simon helped me get through the first lockdown here in the UK, his Friday night live streams from his house gave me something to look forward to each week. Glad to see him back on here.
Dan and Mick! Because of you guys I discovered Biffy Clyro and I was fortunate enough to see them front row in a small club in San Diego in May of this year. What a show and the sound of Simon crushing it was an experience to behold. To top it off…the amount of fans I met outside the club ALL TALKING ABOUT THAT PEDAL SHOW! was really amazing. Keep it up! And Mon The Biff!!!
I’ve been a waiting for this since the first video you guys did with Simon. He’s nothing short of the true hero for myself when it comes to all things guitar, songs and personality. May have shed a tear or two at the end of his chat with you guys. Bloody hell, Mon the Biff! Thanks for making this happen gentlemen. What an absolute blast. Can’t wait for the nest TPS Band featuring Mr Neill. 😂❤️
Hi Mick! Hi Dan! Ted here! Just like TPS turning me on to Steven Wilson, I had never heard of Biffy Clyro. And just like loving Steven Wilson, I am loving Biffy Clyro. Thnx again TPS! Ted from Ewing, NJ, USA
Simon if you read comments I put on Wolves of Winter for my 5 year old and he is a Biffy Clyro kid now. Runs around the house yelling WE ARE WOLVES!! That pedal show you guys deliver as always was wanting a follow up to the last episode with Simon on
Simon is so humble and ernest that belies a music genius. How he can write, sing and play those crazy time signatures yet still make them part of brilliant accessible music is beyond my ability to comprehend.
Great episode. Simon is a legitimate musical genius and always seems like such an amiable, humble and kind human being which really comes across in the music too. For any of you discovering Biffy for the first time, listen to albums 2, 3 and 4 if you enjoy the more aggressive, bonkers side to their sound. Also check out Reuben (early biffy contemporaries) and Jamie Lenman’s solo stuff after Reuben split. Another great artist with incredible, modest talent and a thoroughly nice person too.
“I need to feel my brain shake”. What a fanatic show. Thank you Simon (Editing), Churd, Dan, Mick and Simon N. A joyous celebration of tone and why we all play.
I randomly saw Simon, Ben and James the first time live on Roskilde 2010. My life has not been the same since then. So much joy, passion, hugs, tears.. the list goes on. You brought me and my best friends even closer. Made me buy my first guitar. Deeper bonds for life. The end performance touches me. Like the first time I heard Machines. I smile and look at the best acoustic performance I’ve ever heard you play Seeeymuuun. Looking forward to see and hear more great and genius art. So grateful. All the best. Love from Stockholm.
What a video. So good to see a musician so articulate , knowledgeable and humble ! Simon is a top bloke and Biffy are in a league of their own. Mon the biff!!!
I've been a fan of biffy from the second album, and they're sill making great music, the latest album is up there with their double album for me. Simon's explanation of his songwriting process was so inspirational too, thanks man, and thanks to Mick and Dan for a great episode :)
Biffy has been the loudest show I've ever been to and it was truly eye opening, everything Simon talks about feel and feeling is absolutely right, what an awesome dude! Thanks for everything!!
Taken me ages to watch this all the way through because I keep pausing it to listen the album. Thank you all for making this!! I’m a huge fan of Biffy and I’m just learning the guitar so recently discovered TPS. As a fan this is beyond awesome, and as a songwriter and musician Simon is so inspirational. And what a gent 😉. Thank you again!!
Simon seems like a bloody nice chap. So passionate in his thoughts towards music, and in his performance, even when he's just demonstrating some tones on TH-cam channel. Buuuuuuttttt..... the winning moment for me, was the look on Dan's face when he was smashing Red through Simon's rig at the end. Top show chaps. One of my faves.
Biffy hadn’t been on my radar until I caught them at Sonisphere and experienced that visceral awesomeness from a few rows back front and centre and by the end of the first song they had themselves a new fan. Since then I’ve taken every opportunity to see what I believe are one of the best bands in the world you can see live today! So amazing that TPS can have these amazing artist interviews and bring your wonderful personal heart to the proceedings.
I confess that living in the States I'd never heard of Biffy Clyro until you guys. Now, clearly, I'm going to have to check them out. Cheers from a nervous denizen of the Big Apple.
I think puzzle is a good album to start with them, has a good mix of their newer more conventional song writing style and their older more angular approach 👍
I didn't know this band...I do now. This is what I love about our shared experience here, there is always another WOW moment around the corner. Thanks guys!!!
YES........................WOOW aaaaaaaaaaamazing guys best video yet. so good to see all of you buzzing from that, you can feel everyone simply loving it. When the news is dragging everyone down so great to see so..... much enjoyment and happiness. Simons set up even sounds biblical through my PC speakers
Once again, thanks for the awesome show! Not only showing the gear that makes the sounds, but digging into how the artists uses the gear, and really connecting the dots for those of us watching. Proving why That Pedal Show is not only a shining beacon of light in the guitar community, but it’s own type of music journalism that truly inspires and finds truth.
This has now become my favorite episode ever and has made my weekend. Just something I've needed, and so inspiring. Isn't Simon the coolest, most down to earth, yet charismatic big rock star, who at the end of the day is a guitar and gear nerd like all of us? But seeing him in this context makes you still realize why Biffy has been so successful over so many years.
The low end of this rig in person must be absolutely unreal. I'm watching this late in the evening and it just makes me want to downtune a guitar and crank my 50W Bogen. Seriously, Simon is so much fun to watch and hear play, and I could listen to him talk about his rig, inspirations and approach to songwriting all day. Such a genuine and passionate person, and such a lovely Scottish accent, what's not to love?
A pleasure to watch! I love the fact that all 3 of them are enjoying it with the enthusiasm of little children. I hope that Biffy will be able to come back on the road soon, Germany is waiting for you!
Wow, I was wondering about the technical aspects of the Booooom/Blast pedal ever since the news about it came out. Great interview with both Simon and Richard, thank you gentlemen for the enthusiasm...
Watched this first time round, landed on it again tonight surfing, love everything about this, words do do not justify how bloody good this is. Silly good.
That Hope For an Angel tune is majestic. I remember hearing it for the first time through the pa in the practice room, and that first big chord scared the sh*t out of me. Absolutely beautiful ❤️
Wow - that acoustic version of Space caught me off guard - superb!! A great reminder of while we love, love, love all these pedals and tones, it all comes together with a great a song! Well done fellas. Great guests and great show. It's unlikely my board will ever have a Metal Zone, but I really appreciated learning about it in context here. Also, great discussion on the EQ considerations when going from 3-piece to 5-piece live.
What a wonderful lift! Thank you for introductions. Among other things, a fascinating discussion of the future of performance and how positive, creative minds adapt to yield creatively valid experiences for both performer and audience. Without diving too deeply into psychology, it's a beautiful thing to watch openness in full bloom when usual life hits a roadblock. Truly inspirational. Also, massive hats off to the TPS store. A++ in consumer experience. Especially Neville Marten's blues cd, which arrived beautifully packaged in TPS orange tissue, and with a lovely thank you card from Neville. Superb cd so thoughtfully packaged. Brilliant. Cheers, G
Those camera shots on Simon that show the plexiglass shield with Dan’s reflection is glorious. I love that relegation makes me giggle. Great show gents!
Never heard of Biffy Clyro prior to TPS - and that was a distinct pleasure. Simon, what a gentlemen, artist, and melt your face off tonal shepherd... Again, thank you boys for bringing light into an abyss of a year. Love from Canada
I’ll never forget sitting in a friends university dorm room when someone asked if I liked Biffy. I said I’d heard of them, but never listened. On went Glitter & Trauma. I’ve been a fan ever since. It’s a rare occasion when you hear an interview like this and everything that’s being said resonates with you so strongly. “Music should make you feel” “because it fucking matters”. If it’s possible to have any more respect and admiration for an artist you already love, consider it done. Bravo gentlemen!
I love when you do shows like this. Simon is a great guy, and a wonderful writer and player. I'd never heard of him, nor his band. I love the idea of a clean/dirt rig, and I've "accidentally" done it many times by turning off the modulation pedals on the wet side. It really is a wonderful sound. Thanks!
Incredible! Incredible sounds and music. And totally incredible being able to catch the human aspects of Simon and his writing. This American really enjoyed the show. Cheers guys!
That man and his set up are unreal. Seeing D&M through the rig, you could tell they FELT that physically, and that rules. Great show, all my love. -Aaron
This past hour and fifteen has been a joy,a fan of you all, watched Simon and biffy from the start touring blackened sky,I credit him always with my approach to guitar surrounded by better virtuosos as a teenager, always had a good idea of his amp set up more than the pedals and this cemented it for me and gave confidence, more power to you all!what a lovely conversation about approach, learning, enjoying and mastering, you all can shred and was epic to see you jam on that rug!those who don’t know, when that rig comes on full whack with the rest of the banned it’s like being skinned alive and enjoying it!nice one boys
Just had a listen to this again after 3 years, what a special show, thanks to you all. I am now the proud (and very fortunate) owner of a Booooom Blast 2 pedal and a Big Trees amp and my word are they a wonderful pair. The Boooom Blast is brutal and loud and The Big Trees delivers harmonics and resonance in bucket loads. A wonderful combination and you can actually crank the amp to the point it sounds like it wants to explode without knocking the house down.
Captivating, inspiring, awsome and have even more love now for Simon ..... what an amazing show guys... had me hooked in from start to finish.... heartfelt and honest... such a cool bloke. I’ve just been on their web page and ordered new album on vinyl .... just awsome 👌
Ah man, what a rollercoaster of emotions. I see Simon and TPS and have never clicked on a video so fast in my life, then there's a Simon sig pedal EVEN BETTER! Then I find the order link, SWEET! Pedal sold out...gutted. Please make more Chard!
So nice to see guests coming over again! Truly enjoyed watching different views on guitar sounds clash on the screen! Incredibly inspiring 75 minutes. Great job guys, thanks!
SO AWESOME.....

As a drummer Simon Neil is the ideal bandmate. I would give anything to write to one of his riffs. Incredibly prolific ❤

Me, at 55:45: "What the f**k is wrong with me"
Me: wondering why I bought Metal zone

I bought a certain plastic Metal Pedal a couple of years back as a sort of a joke.
I kinda liked it ...
But I don't tell anybody that ... 😉

@@vandal_dk That’s a big statement but it seems well-earned. Gonna have to go buy some earplugs...🙃
They are really big here in Europe and the best live band i have seen
I think puzzle is a good album to start with them, has a good mix of their newer more conventional song writing style and their older more angular approach 👍
I gotta confess I’m much prefer the older stuff, still a buddy fan though
What Simon said about songs meaning something different for everyone is so true. Cheers TPS crew, Simon & Chard, Great show.
I’m not a huge biffy clyro fan but he seems like an absolute lad.
The most excited I've been for a pedal ever. Game. on. Excited to play it!
Great show all around 👍. Time to drag out 4x12 cabs, 100w heads, buy pedals, strats and Biffy albums...
YES!
@@ThatPedalShow - YES! indeed, lol
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve played that intro now!
Aw man, so much love for this episode! Saw Biffy a few years back... what an experience! Well done guys 😃
Awesome show! Bought a few Biffy albums after this! Love that song "Space"! Thanks, guys!
What a joy to watch gents. Simon is such a dude
Brilliant.
Cheers,
G
..the accent 🏴 I could hear that for hours and hours 😎😍
Those camera shots on Simon that show the plexiglass shield with Dan’s reflection is glorious. I love that relegation makes me giggle.
Great show gents!
Never heard of Biffy Clyro prior to TPS - and that was a distinct pleasure. Simon, what a gentlemen, artist, and melt your face off tonal shepherd... Again, thank you boys for bringing light into an abyss of a year. Love from Canada
You will never look back! 9 albums to get stuck into.
Thanks!
What a bloody magnificent episode.

One of the best shows yet boys. A real artist explaining the process of writing. And your faces playing thru his rig were priceless. 👍
Amazing show! Thanks TPS og Simon Neil (plus crew) for making a very long week a bit brigher to kick of the weekend
Cheers guys for setting this up. We just need to try to keep going, safely, but yeah well done guys for not ever giving up
Ah man, what a rollercoaster of emotions.
