Yes, the Spectraflame paint definitely sets the original Hot Wheels apart from the other brands at the time! That's why HWs quickly catapulted into the #1 spot in the diecast category.
I can remember ALL of these cars! I had them. I also loved the wedge shaped front of the Fire Engines, Tow Truck and Ambulances that no one ever shows in their collections. I, sometimes, wish that I had a few. LOVE THAT DODGE DEORA AND TWINMILL!!! MOPAR VEHICLES!!! I worked for Chrysler Corporation just like my father before me.
The Paddy Wagon is a classic Hot Wheels model. I was talking to my friend Carl, you know, I have a video of his childhood redlines that he still owns, and he said that the Hot Heap was one model that was very popular when he was growing up. He never found one at the stores. So when I took him to a Convention a few years ago, his sole purpose was to acquire the Hot Heap!
The axles on the older redlines were thinner and could easily be bent. Modern HWs have thicker axles and are very hard to straighten. There isn't much room in between the body of the cars and the wheels to get a tool in there to straighten out the wheel.
I paid 15% less because I got a bulk deal, just so re-state my price, but you are correct. It gives people an idea that these are not $1 cars. As for you liking the metallic appearance of the old redlines along with the redline strip wheels, I like that as well. When the current HWC Redline Club releases a model, many times I prefer their Neo-Classic wheels which look a lot like original redlines. When they put Real Rider rubber tires on some of them, it doesn't look right.
Yes, these definitely came to market to take no prisoners. When Mattel decided to come up with a cool product in the diecast cars category, they came out like gangbusters!
Agreed. The values of redlines have been determined due to the passage of time and rarity. I should not have to worry about the value of these in the future. Even if they drop a bit, most of the value will still be there. People were selling Super Treasure Hunts and many of them could be found for $20. The value of those will definitely be dropping even further - Thanks!
As long as a Seller states that they are customs or restores, then I have no problems with that practice. I wouldn't like to buy off of eBay because to me, Redlines are more of a personal experience that I want to handle the car before I buy it. Pictures are good but when you're spending good money, I would rather buy in person. Besides, I like to roll my cars around and you can't tell if it rolls straight from just pictures =)
LOL! yeah, all that tissue must have created a bunch of airborne particles. If you didn't see today's video, the 15th Birthday '67 Camaro, I show the Custom Camaro Redlines compared to that 1983 '67 Camaro Belt Buckle 3-Pack.
In a sense, the value of these cars has been set. There won't be much fluctuation on the values because their rarity has been determined. If you were to spend $1900 on cars that you bought on the pegs right now, in ten years, they may be worth $650. Today's cars are mass produced and everybody is keeping them in the package. They will never be rare. That is except for rare variations and Super Treasure Hunts. Only those will be worth more than the $1 that you spent.
I wouldn't say I'm rich but one time in 14 years of collecting, I can spend this kind of money. Now, it's back to the affordable stuff because redlines can be addicting =)
I will probably be a long time before I get to a video showing how to use a wheel-straightening tool. I haven't used one in a long time. I pretty much just put the cars on the track and let them go but if I'm going to use the 'played with' redlines in a future video, I'm going to have to find my old tool and learn how to use it!
This is definitely the big boys territory. Most viewers on my channel are familiar with the $1 stuff but as I do, I want to be able to show as much as possible. I have been collecting since 1998 and I have never been able to spend this kind of money. The success of the Channel has afforded me the opportunity (thanks). In turn, while the cars are obviously mine, I made the purchase for the distinct purpose of providing more content for the Channel. And yes, I was sneezing to the side. Thanks =)
I had starting collecting theses 2 weeks agos. They're definetely the best hot wheels models that i seen in my entire life. Unfortunately, theys ares pretty expensive, but I think i will collect them all! For now, i have 3 chaparral 2g, 2 lola gt and 2 awesome plymouth fury police cruiser. Awesome cars!
She told me to not open the cover on the bed because sometimes they don't pop closed correctly. I opened when I bought it though =) I will open it again when I do a feature video on just the Fleetside.
Yes, these are the redlines that people should be calling redlines. The modern day ones I would prefer to call red-striped wheels but I know that isn't going to every become the common term.
I may do a video on my thoughts on opening cases in the store. Does it make you a bad person? All I have to say is don't make a mess. Does it make it right? That is up to you to decide. As for me, it's a game and somebody is going to get the goodies.
Yes, it is a LOT of money! But the success of the Channel has afforded me to purchase these cars. In turn, I will be able to make a video of the original 16 Hot Wheels plus I can do individual features of each model. Thanks =)
I like the Eldo's too. Big pieces of metal =) As for the current Boulevard selections that you seen at Zeller's, the Boulevard series is very well executed! Great card art, excellent paint and wheels on the models. There are just a few models that I think that they should not have included in the series but even those are still nicely presented.
I have a lot of those original redlines from my childhood. I have always had them and probably always will. Its crazy to say that you got a good deal spending $1900 on Hot Wheels, but you did...
He didn't get redlines. I sent him the Redline Club Pink Party cars. They are a modern release from the last ten years. But I'm with you, I will take the AcceleRacers =)
I just have an overhead fluorescent light fixture and a couple smaller clamp lamps. If you search my videos, actually, search my videos for DW-1 and I think you can see my set-up in that video.
Love the sneezing / sniffling section from 8:00 on. Cars are great too, especially your Camaro duet + this gorgeous magenta Charger at 14:00 which is probably worth USD500 today...
I love the Hairy Hauler! I have a few colors. For being so small, it is a pretty good downhill racer! You're the second one to mention the 'p' as a monetary designation. I tried to google the conversion but I'm not sure. Is 'p' for British Pound? GBP? Because if so, then 50GBP is way to much for a Hairy Hauler with a cracked windscreen. I don't know a lot about pricing but I know the Hairy Hauler isn't that popular.
Nice cars! I really like the Eldorado's! I was at Zeller's here in Canada yesterday and noticed a new hot wheels collection called Boulevard. Some nice cars in that line-up.
Some people may not want the drama that could come when they reveal prices. I'd rather give viewers a real world experience as to how much some cars are worth.
Awesome video racegrooves - I haven't even looked at early stuff since getting into the hobby so this was a good look at some of the original models available. Some serious coin, but as you say - work hard so you can play.
That's funny! I need to add sneezing to my keywords to the video =) As for whether vintage redlines work on present-day track, that's why I bought some beaters too so that we can find out together =)
You purchased your Redlines from a top-shelf person. Anita is respected in the Redline community immensely. One note......Nice Charger but that is not one of the original 16. It came around in 1969. To answer someone else's question, It is a Splittin' Image. Sweet cars. Nice USA Green Camaro. don't put that one on the track unless the track is "unelevated" and on carpeting and can't run into another car or baseboard ! It would "kill" us hardcore nuts!
Great video! Always enjoy the longer showcase of your cars. Bet it was well worth the treat to purchase all of those for $1900! Especially doing so to share with everyone. Love the Ford MKIV, one of my favorite Le Mans cars. Always learning more from your videos, though I'm not sure I'd find myself going for these. At the moment, I'm hunting for classic Tomica's, even though I don't have the money to. Doesn't hurt to dream though.
ADDED TO FAVORITES ;) Super Liked, and if there were any more buttons to click to show how much I enjoyed this video I would be clicking those too lol. Mark you got a really nice collection there. I am barely half way to my sweet 16 and some of mine are pretty clean but the 16 you got are like wow! they are just beautiful cars! Redlines and Spectraflame paint will always be my favorite. Thank you for sharing Mark.
I do have quite a lot to learn, having only started collecting again in February of this year. But it's been great learning from your videos about the hobby and the diecasts themselves. Being a fan of classic Japanese cars, Tomica has far too many cars that I have the money to spend on. Especially the Tomica Limited line with realistic wheels and rubber tires.
Yes, the Spectraflame paint definitely sets the original Hot Wheels apart from the other brands at the time! That's why HWs quickly catapulted into the #1 spot in the diecast category.

Yeah, all of my redlines got passed down to my younger brothers and then to my nephews. They are all long gone just like yours.
Phenomenal works of art. They definitely don't make them like they used to. Thanks for sharing with us all, Mark!
I paid 15% less because I got a bulk deal, just so re-state my price, but you are correct. It gives people an idea that these are not $1 cars. Yes, these should be able to hold their value and be worth the money for a long time.
No doubt, these pieces are definitely the highly of my collection!
I still have a lot to learn but not quite as much as you =) 44 years of Hot Wheels, nobody can know it all! Tomica's aren't cheap either!
The Corvette is one where she had a few colors but this one just really stuck out!
I will show the RLC Hot Heat compared to the original redline version in the future. The modern version is definitely shiny and is a work of art!
Agreed. The values of redlines have been determined due to the passage of time and rarity. I should not have to worry about the value of these in the future. YAY!!! THE SILHOUETTE WAS A BEAUTIFULLY STRANGE VEHICLE WHEN I WAS A CHILD AND I LOVED THE WAY IT FLOWED DOWN MY ORANGE TRACKS AS A CHILD!!!
LOL! yeah, all that tissue must have created a bunch of airborne particles. If you didn't see today's video, the 15th Birthday '67 Camaro, I show the Custom Camaro Redlines compared to that 1983 '67 Camaro Belt Buckle 3-Pack.

I was not intending to buy the Fire Chief because it is not a 1st year Hot Wheel. But this one looked so nice that I couldn't pass it up!
I wouldn't say I'm rich but one time in 14 years of collecting, I can spend this kind of money. Now, it's back to the affordable stuff because redlines can be addicting =)
Track time with $250 car. It better win.
@Abdiel Johan We don't care, virgin spammer.
Wow amazing collection!
T-bird looks sweet and the old colours still look brilliant even today!
I will probably be a long time before I get to a video showing how to use a wheel-straightening tool. I haven't used one in a long time. Yes, they have the bent-axle suspension.

Can you collect the pink beachbomb?
She told me to not open the cover on the bed because sometimes they don't pop closed correctly. I opened when I bought it though =) I will open it again when I do a feature video on just the Fleetside.

Right time period, wrong talented designer =) The Beatnik Bandit was designed by Ed "Big Daddy" Roth.
Yes, it is a LOT of money! But the success of the Channel has afforded me to purchase these cars. In turn, I will be able to make a video of the original 16 Hot Wheels plus I can do individual features of each model. Thanks =)
In general, the hobby is affordable. But there are some collecting niches that are quite expensive.
Great selection!!! Thanks for sharing and kudos to you!!! Love the Benz 280SL, that would be my favourite ,love how short and sharp it is !
Yes, finally, 14 years collecting and I can finally buy the original sixteen!
No doubt! If I'm going to spend the money, I want to make sure that I have authentic, quality cars!
If I'm going to pay the money, I'm going to be sure that it has original surf boards =) And yes, the Mercedes were really nice!
As long as the delrin bushing is still on the axle, you could get a wheel from another donor model.
Nope, I showed all that I bought. I don't own a Beach Bomb yet but if I am able to afford it next year, I will be picking one up =)
Mr. Racegrooves, my son and I bought our first Redline a 1969 Splittin' Image in aqua. First of hopefully many to come. Thanks from J & N
thank you very much for showing these very nice oldies! those Eldorado's are my favorite and the mustang i really like!
LOL! That was pretty funny. I shared it with my daughter and she got a good laugh too =)
Nope, I don't have a video on how to straighten the wheels but when I find my wheel straightener, it would make for a good video.
That Mercedes 280SL brings back memories....
Oh yeah! I better keep an eye on my daughter around my green Camaro =)
Yes, I have sneezed in a few videos now. This time was definitely the worst!
I made sure to get Twin Mills for my younger fans =)
I just have an overhead fluorescent light fixture and a couple smaller clamp lamps. If you search my videos, actually, search my videos for DW-1 and I think you can see my set-up in that video.
I have never sneezed so much in a video LOL!
When you look at price guides, be sure to check whether the prices represent the models in the package or them loose. Thanks!
Exactly. Hot Wheels are for racing!
I think the paper dust from the toilet tissue went air-born and was bothering me.
Awesome Redlines mark! And Very Expensive!!Thanks for Sharing...
I don't recall if I have found the 2013 HW450F dirt bike yet. It isn't exactly a model I collect.
It sure does look like a Ford Model A!
Love the sneezing / sniffling section from 8:00 on. Cars are great too, especially your Camaro duet + this gorgeous magenta Charger at 14:00 which is probably worth USD500 today...
Exactly - Thanks =) Now it's back to the $1 stuff LOL!
10:40 Here is my original Redline Deora.
Thanks. This is where it all began!
Yeah, the Charger is a sweet piece!
The old classics r beautiful even the twin mill
DeEjAy cool.
@foxbodylover7993 It is a Custom VW Bug, not stock.
OK, now the price sounds more like it for the Hairy Hauler =)
I love the Hairy Hauler! I have a few colors. For being so small, it is a pretty good downhill racer! You're the second one to mention the 'p' as a monetary designation. I tried to google the conversion but I'm not sure. Is 'p' for British Pound? GBP? Because if so, then 50GBP is way to much for a Hairy Hauler with a cracked windscreen. I don't know a lot about pricing but I know the Hairy Hauler isn't that popular.
That one sounds like an old Shell Promotion but I'm not sure if the Mantis was one of those cars. Either way, that's an old one!
I have Beatnik Bandit, And Silhouette! I love them like there is no tomorrow...
Just loving it. In my eyes of diecast Redlines originals
I'm not familiar with the Mountain Mining Dump Truck so I wouldn't know whether I seen it or not. LOL!
AWESOME!What a bunch of Great cars and another great video.Great purchase Mark!Take care, tom.
Yes, Mattel is doing a nice job with the Neo-Classics on HWC/RLC. Did you buy the Hot Heap? Mine arrived.
Nice cars! I really like the Eldorado's! I was at Zeller's here in Canada yesterday and noticed a new hot wheels collection called Boulevard. Some nice cars in that line-up.
The Deora looks PERFECT in that aqua color. And it's got the boards too! :-D
highly respect what you said and whatever you work hard for you deserve by all means that's just scratching the surface get what you work for
Nice video. I like the fact you showed the prices you paid as some people act like it's a big secret. Love that Purple Charger.
Some very nice pieces. Love me some Redlines.
That's funny! I need to add sneezing to my keywords to the video =)

Yes, a little something for the big boyz =)

ok there they are... very nice even the ones you call rough ,, are still sweet ,, im glad you did not get any restored ones .they are all over ebay...
Unfortunately, I only have a few vintage Toppers.
Hey, nice cars!!! Sir, you do so much for the hobby...thank you!
I do have quite a lot to learn, having only started collecting again in February of this year. But it's been great learning from your videos about the hobby and the diecasts themselves. Yup, no kidding, Wow!
Haha I love it when you sneeze. :) awesome redlines, looking forward to the proper video greatly! :)
Awesome addition to your collection.
I bought an original blue redline Hairy Hauler today for 50p.
It's an awesome find, even if it is chipped with a cracked windscreen.
Got hold of the 68 VW bug in the original packaging. Paid only 10 dollars for it at Value Village.
very nice set of cars thanks for sharing
I did negotiate a bulk price. I don't remember if I mentioned it in this video but thanks for watching and commenting.
Sorry, Redline values are not my specialty but it probably is worth $5 or less.
Congrats!
No, the Woody is 1969.
Yes, your ears were clean and I did say $1900.
Oh, and yes, those are pristine *loose* from the spectraflame essential guide, Edward Wershbalr
