As I understand from what others have said when installing the oil pump best to leave it loose on the bolts too centralize the drive turn to check there is no binding of the distributor drive thus ensuring good alignment of the drive of the pump pinion and distributor then tighten up the pump mount bolts. I realize you are running an alternative type of ignition but it is the drive alignment that is important. Just sharing my 2 cents worth, love the cars BTW, the step nose is special, the two litre should go well when it is done.
One of the things I cannot get straight in my head is the connecting rod offset on thes 2 L engines , Are you in effect moving the 2 center cly ( 2&3 ) closer together or towards " middle " of engine ( narrow side of rod facing ech other ) , and the 2 outboard cly ( 1&4 ) further away from engine ? .Is the offset considered the Fat side of Connecting Rod ? I have the same problem with Quantum Physics
