I love the magic ring, because it’s easy to do and super nice to have a neat and tidy look once your project is done, but I’ve found that it wastes a lot of yarn for shedders like velvet yarn because of how much extra tail I have to leave for it to close without breaking the yarn. Thank you so much for this!

This is a great idea. I was confused by the magic ring at first but I just kept practicing it and now I actually enjoy doing it and sometimes use the magic ring on purpose when it's not called for. This though, is a good one to remember as well.

I personally LOVE the magic ring and use it for pretty much everything but I know lots of people really struggle with it and especially when using chenille type yarns that have no strength and just snap when you try to pull the ring closed #TeamMagicRing 😆

It’s an easier way to make a magic loop for beginners (you’re stitching into the first stitch instead of the loop) but it comes out like a magic ring (the chain method of this; you can’t really cinch it closed, but in a lot of projects that doesn’t even matter - like you said, you can always sew it shut if it bothers you). A lot of people use the terms interchangeably, but they’re not the same; In one you begin by stitching all your stiches into a single loop and with the other you start with a chain.
Nice way of combining two techniques! It’s the **magic hoop**!

I love magic rings and dont get why some people struggle making them but can make these beautiful pieces however i found out the hard way recently that magic rings absolutely suck for certain types of yarn. This method is necessary to me whenever working with a chenille or those soft blanket yarns.

Whether it works or not to tighten by pulling the tail depends upon how you made your slipknot; if you made it properly,, it should tighten from the skein end... if you made it wrong -- or, in this case, right-for-this-purpose, then it should tighten from the tail end.
Even if you look it up, there are some people out there who are teaching this as the right way to make a slipknot.
For those out there who may get dyslexic trying to figure out the difference, you can basically just wrap the yarn of around your fingers the opposite way and apply the same principle of getting your loop through and that should work. Otherwise a proper Slipknot always tightens from the working- or skein-end of the yarn, The reason being if the tail end of the yarn is the way it tightens the Slipknot that corner of your of your project can become loose even though you so in your ends if you don't do it a particular way to lock it in and keep it from stretching it will slip and become loose or possibly slip out and unreand unravel that end of your project if act if that is the way you tie your knot and you snip your yarn tail closely so you don't have to bother with it it will absolutely begin to unravel on you after a while of wear and tear or laundering.
