I'm really glad that they cast her as Rachel's mom because literally the entire time I watched her do anything all I could think was "she is literally Idina Menzel. I swear she's Idina's daughter"
Yes they look so similiar but Idina isn't Lea's mom, Lea had an interview with the Glee cast on Oprah and her mom was sitting in the audience. But yes they 1000% do look alike and I love their dyanmic they're both so talented and beautiful!!!💖💖💖😊
@@altuzarraok I think it's Idina Menzels busy schedule that came up after this that kept her from continuing the role. I mean around this time she was coming of of Frozen and going into its sequel so she was busy. Her and Lea (aka Rachel) are actually friends so it wouldn't have been much schedule permitting for her to make an appearance
I know right! I know that they had this huge disconnect because Shelby didn’t raise her but it isn’t supposed to be easy at first, I wish they would have given their relationship a real try.
Crystalize Diamond Um yeah you can. Judaism is the religion. Jewish is how they identify themselves. There are a lot of non-practicing Jews who still call themselves Jews. It’s a cultural thing too.
Anna Nguyen ive see you some where!!! Have you commented on Olicity videos because I swear I’ve seen your iconic photo there and I remember your name, I’m pretty sure it’s on a Olicity video! Please respond yes or no
omg they're both wearing purple, i love all the very subtle implications that they're alike they do in the show like their love for theater and how they both like gold stars
I love this scene so much. It's a wonderful parallel to them singing poker face together back in season one. Back then it was a song (in that situation) about wearing a mask and keeping distant after their reunion didn't go as either of them expected, and now it's about being close. And instead of walking away from each other at the end they hug.
THIS right here is the best scene in Glee by far. One last duet with Rachel, the best one yet, giving Shelby a proper sendoff... This made me so happy. I'm really glad they did this.
love love love these two in their mother-daughter roles... there was so much hype about Rachel and her love of Barbra and wanting to be Fanny and be in Funny Girl throughout the years at McKinley and out of McKinley and everyone knew and everyone (new and old Glee members alike) were supporting her and then she threw it away and the New York storyline got mildly ridiculous... *sigh*... but so glad they brought in Idina for this...loved anytime she and Lea would pair up for a song...
I'm glad Shelby came to support Rachel for her audition in NYADA and that she's staying in New York to be closer to her. It's been a while since they haven't seen each other🥲
No. Whenever characters are in a scene together, they often have them wear similar colors, silhouettes and patterns for cohesion. Unless the point of a scene is for two characters to have a stark contrast, then they usually look pretty similar.
Charlotte. Candy floss she,s not copying anyone they just sound familiar and Rachel dosen,t need to be taking notes so you can go to hell, rachel,s already an amazing singer!!!😁😁🖕🏻🖕🏻
It's sad as Rachel told her in the beginning of Season 3 "maybe you could watch me in my opening night at broadway" or something similar to it, but who suddenly appears in that episode is Tina (what is also cool, cos' if wasn't her, Rachel wouldn't be in NYADA - as well in NY)
Those two really killed that one song 🎶, had no idea Idina was on Glee how many episodes in the seasons did she do, it was nice of her to be a part of it.
This scene really mirrors of how Idina is in real life. One of her core specialties was developing ORIGINAL ROLES from the ground up on Broadway. She always says that she's not a REVIVAL GIRL (with the exception of a few parts). So amazing that many of her roles were what she originated and lucky to even have songs written around her voice. It happened with RENT, WICKED, IF/THEN. And she's coming home to Broadway this Winter again with a new musical she developed for 15 YEARS called REDWOOD!! For me as a performer. that is something I want to do more of...... Create Original Characters and be part of the early development proccess.
I know they aren’t really mother and daughter but I thought at least they be related but no just 2 people who look and sound alike. Lea Michelle did however get to sing the song she’s most known for, and asked for tips on it before she sang it
sarahphillips Shelby was a surrogate and her egg was used. I think she calls Shelby by her name instead of "mum" is because when they first discovered each other they both realised it was too late for the traditional mother/daughter bond.
Yes it was which sucked in my opinion because I would have loved it if they would have had a final scene with Quinn puck and baby beth or with this incredibly talented mother daughter Duo that stole our hearts
It was noticed how much Idina looked like Lea early on that led to Idina being cast on Glee to begin with, as both were in the world of Broadway to begin with.
I wish they would have explored Rachel and Shelby’s relationship a little more or did a spin off with the two of them featuring some of the other cast members… I’m just saying
They actually look like mother and daughter and sound so similar
MARIA ARMITAGE ik!!
I actually thought she's her mother in real life, lol.
They look really alike and even have a similar voice.
I love them so much
That is her daughter and that's rachaels mother
Kaitlynn Huitt they mean the actors.
I'm really glad that they cast her as Rachel's mom because literally the entire time I watched her do anything all I could think was "she is literally Idina Menzel. I swear she's Idina's daughter"
I think they did purposely cast them to be related because of how similar they are.
But idina was married to a black man so it couldn’t be
Yes they look so similiar but Idina isn't Lea's mom, Lea had an interview with the Glee cast on Oprah and her mom was sitting in the audience. But yes they 1000% do look alike and I love their dyanmic they're both so talented and beautiful!!!💖💖💖😊
That moment when your mother is actually a Broadway star
Both Idina and Lea are broadway stars
*_Karissa Conway She did 3 musicals before she was casted as Rachel Berry in Glee._*
Sophia .C actually 4: les miz, fiddler, ragtime and spring awakening
Anne’s World I don’t think she did Le Mis on Broadway though. Idk 😐
Lea is on Broadway since she was 8 years old
"We are both in the same city now and so i get to see you a lot more"
Never appears again lol
Thought that too. Shelby should've appeared at least one or two times after this.
@@altuzarraok I think it's Idina Menzels busy schedule that came up after this that kept her from continuing the role. this show should've expanded on the rachel shelby storyline while taking place in new york and include beth more
alexander aldana it’s all about Rachel
Bri W Shelby still would’ve fit with that narrative.
I know right! I know that they had this huge disconnect because Shelby didn’t raise her but it isn’t supposed to be easy at first, I wish they would have given their relationship a real try.
menzel was probably busy
True
0:56 my heart can't take It😭(when Shelby calls her "daughter" I literally felt so happy😊)😍💓
Imagine she was talking about beth 💀💀
@@xxxx-lt8br Girl that would be so sad for Rachel 💀🤚
xxx x no she was talking about Rachel because Beth can’t perform yet since she was still a baby
She could have been talking about both
@@maryrudac8645 Shelby that’s her daughter Rachel and Beth they are sisters new siblings
love Idina Menzel and Lea Michele I only wish that one day I can see them both live and on broadway in total awe
Julie Mahe Haha! Yeah, that would be great.
Jullie Mahe Idina not Indina, she is amazing live you should if you get the chance
I have seen them both live on Broadway in New York
This did not age well...
We're Facebook friends Rachel you start posting as Barbra 😂😂
I love this scene with Shelby I wish she was in the final seasons more.
Jessie Coleman She was working on frozen
actually she was on broadway doing If/then
They look similar, have similar heritages (both half jewish) both have similar upbringing, both were on broadway and both are super talented!!!!!
@Crystalize Diamond ikr that comment made me laugh xD. Lea isn't Jewish. but Idina is.
Crystalize Diamond Um yeah you can. Judaism is the religion. Jewish is how they identify themselves. There are a lot of non-practicing Jews who still call themselves Jews. It’s a cultural thing too.
Shannon Crawford Lea isn’t religiously but she said she is culturally.
And Idina is Jewish on both sides of her family.
10000% AGREE!!!!
omg their cheekbones 😍
Ikr!

The way Shelby said “I love my life” reminded me so much of Quinn. The way she spoke and all.
This is an amazingly realistic interpretation of how you get ready for an audition. Always do what the auditioner won't expect 😉
Yes I completely agree!!
omg they're both wearing purple, i love all the very subtle implications that they're alike they do in the show like their love for theater and how they both like gold stars
Yass
So sad this was Shelby’s last apiriance in the show ☹️
0:38 ironic
There was a damn good exit for India menzel
Shelby should have made an appearance on the opening night
They sound the same. Thats really cool and they look like mother and daughter
This is the best casting in TV ever lol. She could really be her mom.
like mother like daughter and i love how they are wearing similar outfits in this scene. (Gray + Purple)
Yass
They've done that for some of their other scenes too
I love this scene so much. It's a wonderful parallel to them singing poker face together back in season one. They hugged after Poker Face, too.
The pianist during the scene is just like ok
That’s more or less the life of an accompanist. 😂
THIS right here is the best scene in Glee by far. One last duet with Rachel, the best one yet, giving Shelby a proper sendoff... This made me so happy. I'm really glad they did this.
Wish they had brought Shelby out for the last song on season 6
Their voices are just amazing xD Get actual chills every time
They sing SOO beautifully especially as a duet
are we sure they're not really related?
yes they are not related.idina was 15 when lea was born and she only has a 7 nearly 8 year son Walker
ik but really, LOOK AT THEM
If anyone else played her mom I would've sued and called to offer the role to idina myself

Mostly because during that time frozen recently came out and she once again was im another. Successfulll project so she probably was busy
I can easily tell that they are having a lot of fun! I love Lea and Idina!

Love watching these two sing together!!!!
I closed my eyes listening 2 this and had trouble at some parts figuring out which one of them was singing.
All I can think of when I see Indina singing is 'let it gooooo'
Well, for me it`s "Defying gravity"
I hear ‘take me or leave me’
For me it’s “Over The Moon! “
For me it's "Small world"
for me it’s her whole discography
I love this song lovely cover 💖🌹
i want shelby to be my mentor
They look like an actual mother and daughter and sound familiar when they sing
Shellby face haha when she started singing
GOOSEBUMPS IDINA MENZEL AND LEA MICHELLE FENOMINAL
One of the Best Mother/Daughter Duets I ever heard !!!
Is it Mother and Daughter clothes? Both of them wore the same kind of clothes
No. Whenever characters are in a scene together, they often have them wear similar colors, silhouettes and patterns for cohesion. Unless the point of a scene is for two characters to have a stark contrast, then they usually look pretty similar.
I wish Shelby was my mother and my mentor too. Just love her. ❤️❤️

Jada Williams Why are you mad
I never really liked Rachel bc she was backstabbing and would sell out whoever to get what she wanted and wouldn’t get in trouble
What happens when you get two broadway legends together.
You know she went from this to being Elsa in Frozen! Funny world we live in!
I love their voices!!!!!!!!
honestly, I love this show, I love Rachel, I love Shelby....... wish them all well...

it would of probably been way to expensive to have them both
One of my favorite songs from Glee.
Amazing duet
This actually makes me so emotional omg
Am I the only one who wished they had a scene with Shelby and Cassandra getting into an argument over Rachel
Yeah that was my wish too... Shelby going all Coach Corcoran on Cassandra July.
They are so special together
Rachel and her mother sing so alike
I always wished they built their relationship more especially since Rachel wanted a mother so bad. But it did make all these small moments amazing.
Small mom ether so dad Rachel more
0:43 The moment Shelby said "in fact"... I can see Coach Corcoran Mode activated... just less bitchy?
I love them being friends
Good god this is amazing
Rachel seems so happy with shelbe
It was sad to see Shelby go, but she will always be part of Glee. Well done Elsa/Elphaba
Who else thought they were mother and daughter for real
This made me love Idina even more omg how 😻
It's sad as Rachel told her in the beginning of Season 3 "maybe you could watch me in my opening night at broadway" or something similar to it, but who suddenly appears in that episode is Tina (what is also cool, cos' if wasn't her, Rachel wouldn't be in NYADA - as well in NY)

I would listen to Idina Menzel’s advice about anything.
This is post-Frozen. And Idina's best role is still Shelby.

*the last scene for shelby/indina*
It's so weird hearing people I don't know say my name. It's like what who me?
😂
Why is Rachel calling her mother Shelby
because her mom only gave her the egg to Rachel's dads to have her and her mom is her mom but she didn't raise her so she calls her mom Shelby
I thought she gave birth to rachel
sarahphillips Shelby was a surrogate and her egg was used. I think she calls Shelby by her name instead of "mum" is because when they first discovered each other they both realised it was too late for the traditional mother/daughter bond.
Emily Jones she gave birth to Rachael and the two dads took her
Lori Bush I know...
Just noticed it's a Baldwin piano. Oh, yeah! No wonder it's got that tone.🙂
This is the last time they showed Shelby
