Hey Bjørn! I was just as bummed about the MG’s audio system as you are… until I discovered the ‘Arkamys 3D Sound’ and ‘Virtual Subwoofer’ options. Flipped those switches and BAM! It was like going from a tin can to a concert hall. 😲🎶 Give it a try; your ears will thank you!”
If I remember correctly sound in the MG4 only was acceptable after turning on the "virtual subwoofer" function. This created more of a surround sound feeling with more openness.
I still like this car. I think it could make the grade for me even for the occasional road trip. I hope you can get the EX30 and put it through its paces soon. That will be interesting to see it in the real world. Thanks Bjorn. Happy belated fathers day.
The safety systems are very well described as nervous. My mg4 was a nightmare, add in the leaks, the underfloor not fitting and it had to go back for good after 1100 miles. Shame, enjoyed the ride quality and the great charging speeds. If they get their tech and QC fixed I’d buy another one.
What, they have a return police? I have an MG4, have not had any of the problems you mention. Vidoos of TH-camrs who own MG4 have also not had the problems you mention
@@user-qy2wf2lt6v I don't know like in UK, but in Germany there ID3 Pure(before facelift) costs similar money like MG4 and it is much much better manufactured car, you will see after 5 years of usage... Problem where all your personal settings reset to default each time you start the vehicle... is that still a problem or have they created saved profiles for each driver ?
@@Airbag888 I was worried about it but it's actually not that bad. LKA is not bad at all when you drive in motorways and does really good job when it comes to auto steering in TJA mode. Really keeps in the centre of the lane. It's a bit nervous on the slip roads when you exit the motorway sometimes and when when you drive on rural areas and little roads (like every other car I drove) I did 1.5k km in 3 weeks since I've got it and didn't have phantom braking single time so it's not often for sure. The only thing that drives me bonkers in this car is slowing down when using ACC. You set it 120km/h let's say and the car will slow down to 110 or even less on the bend of the road, even if you keep the steering wheel and have full control. Simply ridiculous! Otherwise good experience so far 👍🏼 Ps note I'm running on R40 soft which is probably the same as what Bjorn had.
Great test. The MG4 raises an interesting question. Why pay more? It rides very well, handles great, is quick enough, and fairly quiet. You get good enough range, even with the LFP version. With fossil cars, there were clear differences in the quality of the engine, and vibration and noise dampening. No one can tell the difference between a 150 KW electric engine from a premium brand and a Chinese brand. Batteries are except for Tesla mostly made by the Chinese. So how do you justify paying a lot more for a European premium brand? Other than to show that you are loaded, it will be increasingly difficult to hide behind technical superiority. Other than the snob appeal, a 25 000 Euros Chinese car is as much fun to drive as a 50 000 Euros German Premium car.
It reminds me of the first Kia ICE models. The testers should take a look under the car. Rust precaution is not existent on some MG4. Thats one point where they save money in the production. Maybe there are some others too. There are some Videos on YT now where some people take a look underneath. So if you want to know why pay more than maybe because they last longer. But time will tell.
@@stoapfalzrunden4150 you may be right. It occasionnaly snows in Beijing, and definetly snows in the North of China, they even have ICE sculpture festivals. So I am a little doubtful of the claim that Chinese cars have not rust proofing. Western and Japanese car makers have been making cars with Chinese partners for 30 years in China.
Except that the MG4 feels cheap compared to for an example, the Kia Niro EV. Yes the Niro is more expensive, but the driver assists actually works, the seats are better quality, better sound system, frunk, more space in the back and in the trunk. MG4 is good for its value, but saying that its on par with its european/asian rivals, thats really stretching it.
You should use eco mode. Extends the range for me about 50km in a standard MG4. I always drive in eco. Its fast enought for me ;) On heightway I have in eco about 18 KW per 100. In Normal 22. Its only bad that you have to set the mode bevor every drive. I put it on the left favorit key. But I have to say that my MG4 is a 2023 model with latest software.
Lane assist just pings if you get close to the line.. it has nothing to do with holding the car between the lines. Same as the kona. It will just hold you a tiny bit but if you let go of the steering wheel it goes poof anyway. Although the HDA on the kona is 10x better then the MG4 :)
The stereo system was really bad even through your mic, boomy in the 120-200Hz region and no lower base at all. The treble is super diffuse and at a low level. It seems like they havent spent much polishing the finer details on this car. Classic chinese production where the focus is get the product out the door as quickly as possible. The polishing will come after the product is launched hopefully through updates(doubtful..).
Try to stop in a steep hill and activate Auto hold. Go slowly on the accelerator pedal, then the MG4 will not accelerate in the hill and when you go off the accelerator pedal you start to roll backwards. Could you test this Björn?
I’ve had my mg 4 long range for about two months now, driven about 6890km. I’m kinda happy with it, but a few things bug me: the lane assist is a killer, like really that thing is extreme, on head traffic crash system randomly activates and brake the car, wipers leave a smear just in the middle of my main area, charging is great, however it’s prone to overheating, so can get 136 ish, but middle of charging session it drops down to 6-9 for about 10-15 min before going back to 136 ish. Also there is an insane amount of wind noice from the front left side.
This is particularly amusing because my parents BMW arrives next week but I have my eyes on this car . I could order one now but I do want to test drive rather than ordering blind so it might take awhile for me to get a hold of one.
9:30 For that part about bath tube or shower use of electronics I must remind them that it is dangerous. And faster transfers are just a coincidence. That might be related to the time of day when they use to take bath/shower or location inside a house where they are closes to router or there is less obstacles to it from this location.
I think you missed the “?”… Bjørn has to encourage views just like others on TH-cam and inevitably this means asking questions that court controversy and discussion.
Sorry but I have still feeling that when European buying a Chinese car behaves like a person who cuts the branch he is sitting on.. :-) MG is a purely Chinese car of company SAIC Motor, which belong to the Chinese government and it means = is getting grants, receives know-how from "Western" car companies that must cooperate if they want to sell cars in China... and and many of automobile subcontractors are suspected of enslaving Uyghurs..
noone forced those old european companies to ruin their brand and sell to china... best example is UK.. tell me one Motorcompany (not any tiny handbuild manufacturer) who is not sold .. Jag, LR, RR, MG, AM, Mini..etc all have been greedy as hell to make a quick buck and retire...
The usable battery capacity is 61.7 kWh, not 64. So your result (62.1 kWh) is almost exactly correct.
