Couple things before I get destroyed in the comments:
✅ Yes you absolutely can get a tattoo MUCH cheaper in Thailand, especially for a relatively simple design like this. But, personally, I am happy to pay for the best artist I can. And, for artists of this standard, it is still marginally, to a lot, cheaper than UK or US.
✅ I didn’t get the bamboo because…I didn’t want to. The tech is available, so I thought I might as well use it.
Overall…a great experience, awesome shop, wide range of artists with varying styles - I highly recommend.

So glad I found this vid - I had a leg piece done there last month (Oct 22) by the same guy as you. He didn't say a word to me for the whole 7 hours apart from when it was time for a break and I thought it was weird haha! The tattooists spoke amongst themselves but not really to their clients. It was a whole different vibe from what I'm used to so I deffo know what you mean! I usually get inked at happy sailor in Shoreditch, London by Tota and we talk about all kinds of crap and have ciggy breaks together etc but I guess everywhere can't be the same. But there's something about vibin with the person whos gona be stabbing you with a needle...makes the process a little better haha! The quality of work from All Day was good nonetheless. Another studio that has been recommended to me was common ground. Actually about 2 of the current All day artists came from Common Ground so I'm curious to check it out...heard it's got more of a "vibe"

I'm totally with you...definitely a different vibe, and it's nice to chill with your artist ya know...play some music, have a laugh...helps take your mind off the excruciating pain 😅 That being said...it was the first time I'd put on some headphones and watched Netflix whilst getting a tat...cos usually I am chatting...and it actually went by pretty smooth! So if you're in that spot again...highly recommend. Totally with you though; quality > chit chat. Thanks for the recommendation of Common Ground! Defo an option! And even if it is a bit less...cost of living is so much cheaper that proportionately, in terms of chargeable hours vs cost of living, I would imagine it would work out very well 👊

You know...I didn't think about the whole 'cultural appropriation' thing until after I got it. That being said...it has been very well received from many Thais, so I think you're good to go

This came to abouttttt £300, if my memory serves me correctly. About £70 an hour...so not that much cheaper than the UK where I get most my work!

Sad to say but you went to a Tattoo shop to get a fake Sak Yant? These are spiritual Tattoos that have magic spells that can only be done by a real Sak Yant Master. A real Master will change the gobbled fake text with copyright of the designer and change it to real magic that goes with the design. And it would cost about 4000 baht for the real thing rather than a tourist tattoo costing the same as back home.
You got a beautiful tattoo for sure, but you fell for what locals and expats know is a scam. Tattoo shops who promote bamboo tattoos in the hopes people do not do the research on how important the Sak Yant is in Thai culture. Back home it wont matter, but for those living here with a little more knowledge about the traditions of Thailand the mistake and lack of research is obvious.
