      I tend to do everything legitimately as well with every new build and playthrough except for getting a ton of coins early in the game by exploiting quicksaves + pickpocket everyone in whiterun
      Unfortunately that would level up skill trees needed for this build so can't do it this time 😔🤣

    OMG - I'm going to have to rethink my plan to follow this walkthrough. This is one of the most awesome builds I've ever seen you create! You are without question the best strategic player in the biz.
    I originally planned to use my destruction mage (based on your Lux Iron-Breast build) and just level up sneak & illusion to your levels. However, after watching you put this build through it's paces, I see the advantage of building specific skills, perks, armor & tools to compete the picture. There's more than enough info here in this episode for an experienced player to rebuild and follow more closely - just because this looks like so much fun!
    Keep on keepin' on, sir!!!

    • @BlackbirdWrites
      @BlackbirdWrites 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Osareafallire, Yours is good advice. I've invested quite a bit in Illusion, and I'm very keen to get it to where this video shows its power. I had a question about the right side of illusion perks. I've not put anything toward the animal and kindred mage points, preferring instead to go up the middle for the fury and rage and to the left for adept, master, etc. At present, I'm still getting my ass kicked and quickly have to pull out my prized bow or Fire Breath them when they're charging. Do you think I've made an error and should get the animal and kindred mage perks on my way up the illusion tree?

    • @osareafallire
      @osareafallire 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlackbirdWrites The right side is absolutely essential, simply for silent casting, which affects ALL schools of magic, and the benefits of kindred and animage stack which means eventually pacify/harmony work on Draugr Lords and mammoths. Once you're at that level... most things are almost easy but somehow still entertaining.

    • @BlackbirdWrites

      I will definitely take your advice. It is intriguing to imagine getting to that level to have a choice in combat style. I added an increased population mod yesterday, and now I've got a dragon jumping me from the sky, cultists shooting fireballs at me, and then out of the Blue Mountain flower patch comes this vicious Ebony Warrior. He's got a Bounty on my ass! Tries to hack me to pieces.
      That battle would have been much less stressful with this Illusion build! Thankfully, I had given Lydia a Staff of Fireballs, otherwise, I would not have made it!
      Thank you for your advice and help.

    Wow that's surprisingly satisfying to watch enemies slash each other! Great job Major!
    About this "no sight no sound" detection you mention - I prefer to think they just see footsteps on the snow or the grass and leaves under your feet. Or maybe its just their 6-th sense. Anyway, as we can see in the game, characters being invisible can still be seen when they are close enough, so detecting you when silent and invisible is still possible.

    @MajorSlackAttack First of all, a long-time viewer, first-time commenter. Love your content, keep up the good work on REAL walkthroughs. Secondly, I didn't notice it when the video was uploaded but at around 17:18 when you are explaining the shrouded gloves you got something wrong. They only provide the x2 damage to daggers, not all one handed weapons. SPOILERS WARNING! The ancient shrouded gloves that you have access to later in the questline do x2 damage across all one handed weapons. This is a common misinterpretation of the description on the gloves. Just thought I'd be a hardcore slacker and clarify. Keep up the good work, you are one of my favorite TH-camrs.

    using marked for death on dragon from a lair has a weird effect. Since every time it respawns it will respawn with the same ID which means the armor reduction from marked for death is permament. After a few respawns and shouts you will always kill them in one shot with everything since their armor will be wayyyyy negative

      Same. It’s also super fun for NPC shenanigans. Whenever ya need some extra gold and don’t have a high enough pickpocket level to take that valuable golden necklace off of a non-essential NPC, just hit em up with frenzy, have the guards kill them, and loot the body. Enemy fort too populated to sneak past? Just hit ‘em up with Hysteria or Mayhem and casually stroll through the chaos, treating their most closely guarded secrets like a menu at a restaurant.
      The average warrior role play wants to go around killing stuff while an illusionist simply leans back in his chair and says:
      “Why kill them when I can just snap my fingers and have their closest friends do it for me?” This is the true power fantasy right here.

    Why get muffled movement when you have the muffle spell? Because the effects stack. Both reduce sound by 50%, with both it reduces sound by roughly 75% imxp.. It can make a huge difference against those 'mysteriously detecting' enemies...

    • @davidmckean955

      This.
      The only way to get 100% muffle in the game is to find a pair of boots of muffle from a vendor or in loot and disenchant them and enchant your own boots. Then, with those boots and invisibility you can sneak up on bears.

Though it takes some strategery to get it without doing the quest line at all (uesp describes how to do it using ritual stone), the base stats are better than the standard DB armor. More akin to a mage cosplaying a rogue relying on alteration for the armour spells and enough conjuration for mystic binding perk because bound weapons are the coolest looking.

    By end game, I just use the invisibility spell combined with the sneak skill that lets you sneak at full speed to run past all enemies to the objective. I also usually user furry on assassination missions to make the target get themselves killed. And with Smithing and Enchanting at 100, you can one hit some dragons on legendary. The alchemy exploit is lame though. Crossbow sneak attacks are usually a one hit kill as well.

      Just potion loop a ring of alchemy.make an extremely op potion of enchanting and fortify boots with sneak.you will never be detected again.and sneak won't break with potion loop.i know alot of things can and will,but sneak,health and Stam Regen, fortify magica and magica Regen,pick pocket and lock picking and alchemy and smithing are all safe to potion loop.and to be honest that's really all you need lol.this will also help power level quickly as you can reset alchmy,and make it lv 100 again with a single potion.not to mention any potion you make like this can be used without fear of breaking the game and you can get as much gold as you can stand selling em.works well with any build and can get your build to full potential quickly.and also bear in mind the vampire Lord boosts sneak by 25 percent.and even more if you make sure that necromage is the first perk you select of any skill.after necromage is active,anything that you get afterwards that affects you is boosted an additional 20 percent.i generally get vamp Lord at level one,and before I level at all I get restoration to 70.its a pain but worth it in the end.also staying level one makes getting the mountain flowers in ancestors Glade easier.and these are needed for potion loop.if done right you can be in god mode by level 30.

      It's subjectively an exploit, as Slack uses detect life in the middle of Riften to level up Alteration in his Pure Mage build. He argues that he is using it correctly because detect life also is meant to detect friendlies, but at that point there are hairs being split.

    Love the Beavis reference Slack! I'm sure you know, but the Muffle spell is 50% less noise, combine that with Muffled Movement perk for another 50% less noise. However if you can get a pair of Muffle enchanted boots early on (before level 10) disenchant them and enchant your own with a petty soul gem, you get 100% Muffle. Also the Muffled movement perk combined with the Shrouded Boots or Shoes is 100% too.

      When using Elven armor, the Muffle spell is *100%* less noise. Did you not see the test I ran at 29:00? Custom Muffle enchanted boots are convenient but like I said in the video, you lose the XP from not casting the Muffle spell.

    Best spell to get Illusion skill up is Muffle. Basically, you can cast it over and over again, and will gain 100 in Illusion in about 30 minutes. Probably more like an hour if you don't have any enchantments to lower casting cost of your illusion spells.

    Hey Slack, just wanted to let you know you don't actually need the muffle spell if you already got muffled movement.
    The muffle mechanic in Skyrim is glitched, supposedly you would need muffled shoes and muffled movement to imitate the muffle spell, since both give 50% muffle according to their description.
    But this has not only been officially confirmed bugged, but also my own experience has shown this to be true, if you have the perk AND are invisible you can walk around invisible without ever getting detected.
    The third "detection mechanic" in Skyrim beyond sound and sight only comes to play if you somehow make your presence known. Sadly this can happen through various means, the most annoying one is simply having a follower with you, don't get me wrong I hate followers, but for some quests they are essential.
    Btw. the best dagger you can get very early in Skyrim is fom completing the Dark brotherhood questline, which is only inferior to Dragonbone and the quest is completeable with a low level character if you have invisibility.
    Also another useful thing to note is the ability to remain invisible while performing an action that would render you visible.
    Simply hold the right mouse button (while invis is equipped on your left hand) and release it right after you either open a door, left click for attacking an enemy or pick a lock etc etc etc.
    This is a guarnteed action if you don't use it for attacking but non combat actions, if you attack a critical hit will mess this up because it triggers an animation. But this is still very useful sometimes you can clear a whole room without ever getting detected.

    • @MajorSlackAttack
      @MajorSlackAttack  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Muffled Movement perk glitch doesn't automatically give you 100% noise reduction. Certain conditions must apply.
      _Muffled Movement provides full movement noise reduction instead of 50% if, at the moment you take the perk, _*_you have Kindred Mage and are not a vampire._*
      en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Sneak
      Also, the Muffled Movement perk is a rather expensive convenience. Why waste a perk point just to reduce your ability to earn XP in combat by not casting the Muffle spell? I would suggest that only after getting Illusion up to 100. Until then, use the Muffle/Invisibility spell combo to rapidly level up Illusion.
      Re: The Blade of Woe (best base damage dagger from completing DB questline)... Not much use if you can't improve it until you get the Arcane Smithing perk. Especially if you're intent on getting it early in the game. You can craft, improve and enchant way better daggers before the time it takes to run through the entire DB quest line.
      Re: Remaining invisible exploit.... Not my thing. I'm willing to play by the rules.
      But hey... Different strokes! :)
      ...

    • @VictorCreedGaming
      @VictorCreedGaming 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Slack, thx for the answer. :)
      That Wiki post is definitely wrong, I have never ever gotten Kindred Mage (as far as I can see you have it tho) and I am 100% silent with Muffled movement.
      Illusion levels super fast and on my current run I had 95 Illusion by level 19, only thing I did was go to Winterhold early (below level 10, maybe even 5) get Muffle and just keep casting it while ran around and minded my business (mostly looting and doing alchemy vendor quests) till I was 75 and got Invis, when I got Invis I never cast muffle again and only invised when actually needed and still got to 95 at level 19 ( my Sneak was below 40 by then and nothing detected me unless I or a companion amde my presence somehow known).
      On a past run a few years ago I even reset Illusion to get more levels, since it levels so fast and you can easily reduce the cost by 100%.
      It never took me long to get the Blade of Woe and getting Arcane Blacksmith is not that hard either, through your recent videos I even rued the comparatively slow methods I personally used to level smithing, with your methods I would have gotten it much faster.
      Why do you consider remaining invisible an exploit? all you do is recast invisibility right after you do something. :)
      Anyway, thx for all the great guides, I never meant to criticize and only wanted to share my personal experience. :)

    • @MajorSlackAttack
      @MajorSlackAttack  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      _the ability to remain invisible while performing an action that would render you visible_
      In my books, that's an exploit, plain and simple. The rules are the action is supposed to render you visible. Trying to circumvent that is an exploit. But if you're comfortable with it, all the power to ya.
      Repeatedly casting Muffle when you're not in combat to level Illusion is not really my style. I consider that an exploit as well.
      _It never took me long to get the Blade of Woe_
      lol... I've actually done a walkthrough of the DB quest line. Been there, done that. It's not something you rip off in under an hour. When you say it never took me long, I notice you didn't get specific. I know how long it takes. Just saying... ;) Also, you can't enchant the Blade of Woe and quite frankly, it has an enchantment that is of little use to an Illusion Assassin since they rarely take damage in combat.
      But whatever... We have different play styles. Different strokes, dude. :)

    • @MajorSlackAttack
      @MajorSlackAttack  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      _That Wiki post is definitely wrong_
      Nope. It's correct. Just tested it on a level 1 character. Try it yourself if you're on the PC version.
      With no other perks, open the console and type in:
      player.addperk 00058213
      This will add the Muffled Movement perk.
      Then open the console and type in:
      player.getav movementnoisemult
      This will tell you what your movement noise reduction is. You'll see the value is 0.5.
      :)

    • @MajorSlackAttack
      @MajorSlackAttack  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When you get the Kindred Mage perk and do the same console test, the movementnoisemult value is -9.5 (below zero thus rendering 100% noise reduction).

Are you using keyboard/mouse and have them bound to quick cast/quick change? Any information is greatly appreciated!!

      I'm using the Favorites system. When you go into your inventory and hover over any item or spell, you'll see a button to press to make it a favorite. Then back in the game, there's another key you can press to bring up the favorites menu (you'll have to look that up in your Options, mine are custom configured). When you bring up the in-game favorites menu, hover over any item in that menu and press any number on your keyboard from 0-9. Then close the favorites menu and henceforth whatever number you set for any particular favorited item, will automatically load that item.

    Valdr's lucky dagger could be a nice addition to this build Slack. The crit that it does stacks with the x30 bonus, also causes stagger alot of the time. It benefits from the steel smithing perk so is pretty easy to beef up to legendary.

    • @kingohbeee
      @kingohbeee 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, it wouldn't because the way the game applies that crit chance is off the base damage of the dagger. Not the improved damage but the base number before perks are applied. Which is why crit in skyrim sucks.

    • @SirEliteGrunt
      @SirEliteGrunt 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheReez95 I wish it was off the upgraded damage. Same with unarmed damage off gauntlets

    • @philhayes1420
      @philhayes1420 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      While yes it does not stack with the upgraded damage. The extra 2.5 base crit damage does stack with the x30 sneak attack damage that you see in this video, so thats a 25% chance to do an extra 75 damage. It doesnt need soul gem recharge, and it only requires the steel smithing perk to upgrade so good for low level assassins.
      Also anyone looking to do the quest to get the dagger on legendary difficulty, offer to clear Moss Mother Cavern by yourself while he stays outside. This will make only low level spriggans spawn inside, whereas with him you can get some high level ones.

    Why would any sneaker character *NOT* pick up silent casting, dagger perks in sneak tree and backstab gloves? Particularly if you're a vampire since you don't need the ancient dark brotherhood chest piece to be immune to poison (vamps are immune to poison and disease), and with a nice caster clothie chest piece you easily offset even the daylight magicka regen debuff, along with making invisibility cost less to cast.
    So with dark brotherhood boots and hands and a clothie illusion chest piece you have, effectively, unlimited use of invisibility, cannot be heard even while running past falmer, cannot be detected by the best dragons and have x30 damage with daggers on your sneak attacks. Legendary difficulty very easily becomes easy mode for a sneaking vampire with illusion magic. I would, however, pick up a better dagger than the dwarven one you're using.
    However, yeah: anything you can attack from the ground can get one shotted easily using this build and you can even sneak through and with caution and good observation of the area, you can even one shot everything without taking a hit.

      Observing Libertarian what’s caster clothie

    • @ObservingLibertarian
      @ObservingLibertarian 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@burningpegasus759 In most RPG games, "casters", meaning mage archetype magic users, wear very little armor or wear light armor with very little armor value. As a result they're often called "clothies" or "caster clothies." As compared to heavy armored fighters who are designed to be defensive and have a lot of HP, who are referred to as "tanks". In the statement above I was referring to the cloth chest pieces which offer magicka regen and reduce the cost of certain spell schools - specifically using one for illusion so that invisibility costs less magicka to cast and what magicka is used is regenerated quickly.
