This is by far the best tutorial over the XH-2S. Have used more than one time, as I will have tot test one H2S, next Sunday. As one of many added values, the explanation regarding the metering modes is the best I've seen...and I have searched a lot!!! Well done!!!
Michael, Thank You! I'm getting my new x-h2s next week and, after watching your videos, I can't wait to dig through and set up my new camera! Thank you!!
Great tutorial for beginners and one I will bookmark in case I forget a few things...For the record on lens recommendations, the 70-300mm is not mentioned here but is a PHENOMENAL lens. If you want to go light or can't afford the 100-400mm, honestly with a 1.4x TC on the 70-300mm you're not losing much at all. In fact, there are a couple of reviews online that point this out. Mirrorless comparison's website covers the two in-depth.
wow, excellent explanation, very brief, most of the camera users are not aware of all these micro-level details, especially when they get a camera for non-business purposes. hats off...
Thank you for this! It's taken me a while to pick this up after a 2 year purchase and really knuckle down and learn about it. I'm a little more confident about what it can do and excited to take it for a ride.
AF-C can be used the same way as AF-S. With BBF, you press the button and get focus, you let go and recompose. As you move around your subject is still in focus, it only loses focus if you are either holding the focus button as you move off your subject or press the button again. This being the case, I’ve always just kept mine if AF-C as it is essentially 2 in 1.
Outstanding tutorial Michael, thanks! I actually watched it to see if I wanted to buy into the X-H2 (Fuji) system. Currently on the A7IV and wanting a smaller package with more reach… leaning toward the A7RV and using it in Crop Mode (26mp)… not a lot of difference in overall weight/size savings and cost between Sony FF and Fuji’s X-System now. Love Fuji Jpegs though… but then I also love Tamron’s 67mm Filter consistency (for your filters!) :D. Thanks again.
Michael, this is an outstanding video. I'm planning to get either an xt5, xh2, or xh2s. When I do I'll purchase your Crash Course. However, when you explain aperture on this video you make it sound the opposite of what it really is! You say, "larger aperture numbers give you a larger aperture and more light." Your illustration with your hand was accurate, but the way you said it would be completely confusing for a beginner. F 2.8 is a small number but a larger aperture opening than F 8! You might want to explain this differently in your Crash Course or other videos.
this is my first camera and i picked it up today, i have already learned so much and I'm only half way though thanks for this also how long before the full training video is up for this camera i went to buy it but its not there :) thanks again
Hi David - Thank you for writing! Congratulations on your first camera and wow what a choice for you! Later today Ill be posting part 2 of this tutorial. Its about 1 hour 40 minutes. The full Crash Course will take about 4 more weeks, and there will be about 4-5 more hours of additional content there. I expect sometime in mid august. Please be sure to leave your name and email on my blog (link in the description of this video) and we will reach out to you as soon as it is ready. Best wishes!

Great detailed & informational video, just like all your other tutorial videos. I always go to your tutorial videos, whenever I get a new device. Thank you so much for these video 🙏🏽💯👍🏽 Were you able to make the part ii video? I’m trying to find it in the playlist, but not seeing it…
My Fujifilm H2,H2S tutorial for video shooters: - Switch from AF to Manual Focus (preferably using a real manual focus only lens only) Then go ahead and shoot normally.
There have been a couple of videos saying that if the AF/MF is left on while shooting in "continuous" (tracking) that you get a number of "false" positives. So the suggestion is to turn the AF/MF off when trying to cooperate in tracking. Have you found this to be true?
Great video, but why in your screen , especially in S or A mood, your screen can show SS and A at the same time, but my screen, if in SS mood only has speed , compensation scale and ISO, Aperture icon is missing, please advise, thanks millions
Thanks for your videos Mike . I have an issue with mine , just got it. When I take a picture, I get the "Recording" message on the screen after about 2 seconds , is nuts LOL , Is supposed to playback the image asap. I have good high speed cards and all of my settings are good, the way you have them. Thoughts? I would really appreciate your help. Thank you !!
So when face and eye detect is on and you are in zone focus, it will only detect a face/eye within the zone? So I'm guessing if there are two or more people in a room and the eye/face is turned on that you would move the focus box over the person you wanted and allow the eye/face to lock on?
Hi Michael (or anyone else who can help) - I am working on setting up my custom settings slots (C1-C7) in a new X-H2 I just received, and thought I would have one ready for quick fleeting moments/subjects where I don't want to worry about any settings, other than aperture. One of the settings I am using is Auto ISO, which I have never used on any camera before. I am confused. * Default Sensitivity - clear on this. I have it set to the base ISO of 125. Camera never drops lower than this in bright environments. * Max Sensitivity - clear on this. I have it set to ISO 3200. Camera will never go above this, no matter how dark the environment. * Min. Shutter Speed - this one is mystifying. Either I am not understanding or it is broken. See below. So I have camera in Aperture priority mode (I select f/stop). I want the camera to choose ISO between 125-3200. That seems to work fine. However, I am trying to tell it never to go below a shutter speed of 1/100th, to ensure it doesn't pick a speed slower than I can hand hold. However, no matter what I do, it doesn't seem to make a difference when shooting. If I point at a very dark area of the room I am in, it drops to 1/20th. So I thought, maybe I am flipping the meaning of minimum shutter speed, and the camera is saying the "minimum amount of time the shutter would be open". In that case 1/100th would be the fastest speed it allows. However, if I leave the settings as-is and point at a bright sky out the window, it jumps to 1/680th or something. What the heck? This part of the Auto ISO setting doesnt seem to set a floor or a ceiling on shutter speed. What am I missing? Thanks
I have a problem when I want to start with video that the camera does not start shooting even if the quality is simple write to me there is no storage card although it has a storage card in the second box
Great tutorial learned a lot. Got mine the other day Great camera. Would you know if it’s possible to set your exposure comp in auto ISO with Manual mode? The rear dial doesn’t seem to do anything with this combination, seems to work fine in other modes, Thanks.
Yes there was somebody else who asked this question for now the way you have to do it is in one of the other modes first set it up in aperture priority and then flip it back to Manual
@@MMaven it still seems to default back to doing nothing, no worries I found a way, there is a custom button setting you can allocate to perform this it’s [M+- WHEN SET TO M (ON/OFF SWITCH)] once pressed you can then use the rear dial for exposure compensation. By pressing custom button again the dial will toggle as previous.
Need to where to plug a wireless remote into a fujifilm x-h2, I have a Pixel Pro TW-283 that works great on my old X-T20 but I can't figure out what Port the new X-H2 uses for remote shudder control.
i disagree with the tripod part. if you need /should invest in a tripod depends on your photography style. i VERY rarely shoot w/ tripod, i do most of my stuff handheld. so think about it and maybe buy another lens instead. (that said tripods are there for a reason, if you have a usecase for it go buy a nice one like he said :)
In the OM systems, for focusing there are settings for "target point priority" and "face/eye priority". These can be assigned to a button so one can switch back and for the quickly. This allows one to target a go us point away from a person while allowing the face/eye detect to Cocos on a person. By toggling the assigned button one can quickly move back and forth from a person to an object for the target point. Does the fugi focus menu/system have a similar setting option?
Can you use "auto iso" in shutter priority or Aperture priority? When in Aperture priority is there a way to set a SS range or is that done in conjunction with an auto ISO setting?
I might have missed it so forgive me - when I use the back command dial it won’t allow me to change the focus area, only the exposure comp. Also, I don’t have the [AF] Off showing on my screen (where AF is green). Not sure what I’m doing differently. X-H2 user here
In your "shutter priority" example, if you have your aperture ring on one number, then adjust with the exposure compensation dial, will the actual aperture setting "over ride what is set on the dial? Or, in Aperture priority mode, if you have SS set to a specific speed then move the exposure compensation dial, will the SS over ride what was set by the SS menu (or SS dial on xt5)? Seems like it would be confusing to set SS at one setting then find it is something else due to exposure compensation. Why not just leave the EC dial alone and directly change either the SS or Aperture setting?
I have a question regarding the c modes. Lets say I'm using a mode set up in aperture priority but need a higher shutter speed for a situation, how do I do that while remaining in auto ISO?
hi Dr. Machael, I have XH2 and red-batch lenses. For sport and wildlife shooting shall I buy XH2-S because of its higher speed and Ai auto focus feature? OR XH2 with upgrading firmware would be sufficient to be all in one camera body? thank you
when the lcd screen is centered face forward showing on the camera, can you tilt the screen vertically up or down and horizontally left to right? For example, if i have the camera very low or far to the right from my point of view when im shooting, i want to be able to face the screen to my viewpoint when im not directly in front of it. I have yet to see a video that shows this. it only shows it flipped out to the side.
@1:22:34 My XH2 only have H and No HCrop sub menu on the left. Additionally, when I select H submenu I only have 20 Crop, 13 Crop, 10 Crop, 15 and 10. I don't have any options for un cropped. Anyone know why?
Great vídeo! Thank you! Its helping me a lot! My shutter is configured on the front dial, but I want to move it to the dial on the back, as you show in the video. Can you tell me how to do this, please? 🙏🏼
great video, thanks. I haven't watched it all yet and so I may have missed this. But can you tell me please, does the X H2S have a Pre-burst (Pre-shot) mode where images can be taken (with a half press of the shutter) before the full press, Such as in the OM-1 and Canon R7? thanks I will continue to watch.
Yes - its called pre-shot by FujiFilm - all the X series have had it since the X-T3 (you have to use electronic shutter and high speed continuous burst mode)
@@aztrailrunner thank you. I have watched both video start to finish now. Thank you for them. You mention you go more in depth with the crash course. What are the details of this please?
Hi I have new gfx 50s ii and can you please guide me how I can I chenge aperture on my pre setings mode C1 , when I switch to C mode only I can chenge is ISO rest its all Auto , please help
Quite stuck. Just installed CF Card to try 40fps. It doesn’t perform like how I’ve seen on every video I’ve seen. Have a clicking noise, not like I’ve heard. Also at times have a yellow flash icon which is crossed out. ES, on A setting.
How do you change exposure compensation in manual mode and only have the iso change automatically? I tried to assign to a different button but it only allows shutter and aperture dial
Great question - There is no exposure compensation in Manual mode, so to change the brightness we change our settings directly. I think the answer you are looking for is AUTO ISO in while in manual mode. Once that is turned on, then you can use ex comp in Manual. You can access it directly in the ISO menu or button and turning it to AUTO.
@@MMaven thank you for the reply! I guess I was looking for a way to manually set the shutter speed and aperture specifically to what I want, and set the exposure compensation to let’s say -1 as some of the Fuji weekly profiles suggest for shooting certain profiles and have the iso automatically adjust to it. I could have sworn I was able to do this on the xt4 or xpro2 and 3 because of the dedicated exposure compensation dial.
@@madacenyc OK I understand now you want to have your exposure compensation locked in M mode when you are shooting with auto iso? The work around that I understand this to be that you do it in aperture priority mode first. Set your exposure compensation in aperture priority mode flip it over to manual mode with auto iso and what will happen is the iso will not use an exposure brighter than what you ever you have set it to. Try it out and let me know if it works!
@@madacenyc And as a sidenote if you get into a situation where your iso is maxed out and there’s just not enough light based on your camera settings - then your camera will be forced to underexpose.
I've got an issue with my fuji xH2s, I shoot video. on zoom lens like the 10 24 f.4 when I zoom there is very ugly exposure stepping \ change of light during the shot. I just hate it and it makes the shots looks very amateur. is there a lens that doesn't do it? like the 16 55 ? or I've heard maybe the sigma 18 35 1.8 maybe doesn't do it? has anyone had the issue? is there a way around to solve the problem? I really wanna use zooming during my videos... Maybe I just should go for SONY?
Yeah, it tends to do that if you are not using their LM lenses. They just rolled out a firmware update for both the 16-55mm wr and also the 18-120mm pz wr so the exposure stepping is basically more controlled now. I know it sucks but, fujifilm is not known to be best at their video features, because they made cameras that were “photography first”, they still need to do a lot of catching up in terms of their video capabilities.
I think it's a good thing that there are videos that explain the camera's functionality, but please... Explain the basics of shutter speed, aperture and Iso it's a notion that anyone who buys a camera of this level is already familiar with. Explain this things have sense with entry level cameras for beginners, in this case it only serves to make the video longer and boring
Crop factor is really only relevant for people who've shot a lot of FF/Film or shoot both formats. Newbies really wouldn't care about crop factor. I mean I shoot APS-C and MF, and i never apply crop factors, I know how a 16mm lens looks on APS-C and I know what to expect. Knowing its the same as a 24mm lens on FF is useless unless you shoot FF. For me i know how wide 16mm is vs say 18mm so any lens i've bought i tend to go for the 16mm zooms over one that starts at 18mm. Crop factor also is kind of useless in fuji system as they don't make a FF camera. I think its one of those things some photographers care way more about than they need to.
I just got this beast of a camera and to say I was feeling overwhelmed is a understantement. Thank you Michael for coming to the rescue of us newbies.

In the OM systems, for focusing there are settings for "target point priority" and "face/eye priority". These can be assigned to a button so one can switch back and for the quickly.
@@alandimery3379 Sorry I have nothing to do with the video - just answered the question
Hi I have new gfx 50s ii and can you please guide me how I can I chenge aperture on my pre setings mode C1 , when I switch to C mode only I can chenge is ISO rest its all Auto , please help
can we set the Auto ISO limit (like between ISO160~3200) in Video Mode?
yes
where did you guys buy your xh2s? i didnt get mine :(
Quite stuck. Just installed CF Card to try 40fps. It doesn’t perform like how I’ve seen on every video I’ve seen. Have a clicking noise, not like I’ve heard. Also at times have a yellow flash icon which is crossed out. ES, on A setting.
Have you installed the latest firmware and formatted the memory card? Is your card fast enough?
@@MMaven That works! Thank you so much!
Holy crap… what have I gotten myself into.!?!?
🙏🙏🙏🙏👍🏻
Your remark about the aperture, showing the opening with your hand, is just the opposite...
What is best way to minimize ROLLING SHUTTER when shooting in 8k? Thanks

You reversed the F-number explanation. A larger number does not open up the aperture -- it's the opposite.
My bad- unfortunately I won’t be able to change it. what part of the video?
@@MMaven Oh, I don't remember. Anyway, great video. 👍
