    Got the Pioneer Opus-Quad yesterday. It's truly an amazing piece of gear. Though the XDJ-XZ has been really good to me for the past 3.5 years it was time to move on to a newer technology. I was skeptical at first but now that I have it on my hands I'm happy I got it.

    Fascinating to see all the hate for the form factor and overall visual aesthetics of the unit. As a product designer, my opinion is that this is a nice balance of form and function, and is a refreshing departure from the same, boxy aesthetic that has been around for decades. As an old DJ (25 years+) I have used all the toys and witnessed the acceleration of very passionate (!!) discourse around what is “the right way to DJ” and what kinda of features are superior.. the fact is, none of this will make you a great DJ. You find the tools that put you in your flow and go with it. Don’t let anyone else dissuade you from going with the setup you love.
    Personally, I think this is really cool, and I would have no problems destroying a dance floor with one of these bad boys ✌🏼

    Bought a Prime 4 the other month and was worried when I saw this video, After watching I believe the Denon not only is still better than this product while being a few years older, but its almost HALF the price with more features that I would actually use. Pioneer is only alive due to tricking people into believing they're the best because of their "Club Standard" marketing they use on people.

    • @digitaldjtips

      Prime 4 looks really good, this Pioneer unit is waayy too pricey for the 'average' DJ...

    • @jasonparker1454
      @jasonparker1454 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      well its not half the price anymore. Denon went up on pricing a lot. its around 800 difference to the OPUS: But i agree that Pioneer Pricing has gone crazy and most Pioneer Products are overpriced since the company as been sold a few years ago. but at least its a breathe of fresh air. But i would never buy it as long as its not in sight to support Streaming officially. Design language is weird. But as they took some parts from the Native Instruments Design which is a very functional one its not all bad. Its just weird. but yes even with inflation and all that i think 2500USD would be a more fair price point.

    • @funkeemunkee11
      @funkeemunkee11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jasonparker1454 At least here in the US I spent $1700 last month and I can't see the prime4 for more than $1900 currently while the Opus Quad 4 seems to be going for ~$3200 which makes what I paid 1/2 the cost, I see what you are saying with the native instruments design but it feels like a step back from even the XDJs for what you get for everything but the 4 track functionality. I believe $2500 would be much easier to understand the value of it but it still feels inadequate compared to the products they are trying to compete with directly(like the prime 4). I am probably biased as I have been using the prime 4 and am very interested in getting my hands on the Opus to see if I get proven wrong like I was when I first tried a Denon product while I was looking at the XDJs for my usecase

    Judging by the bourgeois design and ability to play different tracks over different speakers, I think it would suit fancy events like those held in hotels, fashion shows, and art exhibitions.
    I already see many people complaining about the design but it’s certainly something people frequenting those kinds of events would like.
    The DJ could be mixing his main tracks with two decks in the main event hall and have separate mixes playing over the remaining decks in other rooms.

    This reminds me of the revamp of the Atari video game console in appearance, lol. But finally, Pioneer decided to play catch up to Denon. It's really nice, but for that price, I dont see anything that will make me stop using my Prime 4 for this.

  • @ShotbyPicto
    @ShotbyPicto หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This Pioneer vs Denon argument that dominates the comments - Pioneer is top dog when it comes to pro DJ gear in clubs, and that’s not changing anytime soon. But the DJ scene has evolved way beyond just clubs. Now, DJs are spinning in bars, cafes, rooftop parties, fitness centers and even at the beach.
    This shift isn’t just about culture-it’s about tech, too. You can grab a DJ controller like the DDJ-FLX4 for under $500, toss it in a backpack, and you’re ready to rock a beach party. (You’re not going to lug CDJs to the beach unless you’re Carl Cox, right)?
    Pioneer knows their CDJs will keep dominating the club scene. They also know the market is wider now than ever before, and the Opus Quad appeals to some of this wider reach. But they’re not sweating it when Denon drops something like the Prime 4+ with more features for less cash because they know their market. Clubs will still buy CDJs because they’re the standard. But if you’re DJing at a cafe, bar, or even from your living room, it’s great to have other options. For example, the Opus Quad is clearly designed for those beyond-the-club setups, offering a pro-level standalone unit at a lower price and complexity than CDJs.
    It’s not about which product is “the best.” It’s about what works for you and where you’re playing. Competition is a good thing for all of us because it pushes everyone to step up their game. So, whether you’re all about Pioneer or digging what Denon’s doing, just be glad we’ve got choices. Without competition, the scene would be a lot less exciting.

    What's up with all the hate folks? As an XZ user that knows the 3000's pretty well (but don't own em), this thing is freakin sweet! It's basically a bridge to a 900/3000 setup at 1/3 the price. Everything possible on the XZ pads is possible on this device. If you're missing a feature super bad (like gate cue's), plug in your laptop and do it through there. Still don't have a feature you want and feel like complaining about price? Buy a cheap midi controller and map it to any effect you want in rekordbox. Want 2 more decks? Just buy a Xone K2 and map it. Sounds like everyone complaining either owns a Prime and doesn't know otherwise or is comparing this to the XZ instead of a full 900/3000 setup. This deck will help aspiring DJ's practice for the big show equipment at a fraction of the price. And it's not faux wood. Maybe faux copper, but it's clearly not wood. It's fluted metal casing. If you don't like it, mask and paint. Great work innovating Pioneer! XY touch effects are DOPE and ya'll just got 3 times the effects with that since most effects are split between high pass, low pass, band pass, etc. Now you get all three under each effect. Chill folks. This thing is sweet!

      And if you want mobius, just plug the laptop in. map a button to it and hide the compute underneath the table. But most producers I know play with a laptop open. If you're not using the Perform mode and ableton link, maybe your passing up say... 80% of the capabilities. Just maybe.

It would delay my act. I really look forward to a cheaper XDJ-XZ version standalone. Looking forward to an XY touch display for effects on a DJM 750 MkIII. All Denon has to do is do a software update to add most of the features that pioneer adds (Digital effects, algorithm, playlist,…). The price is not for mobile DJs, club DJs or anyone who’s a hobbies. I’m not sure what they were thinking pricing it at $3000+. The look of the unit is also not that appealing, at least to me.

    I absolutely love the aesthetic on this unit. It's easily the sleekest looking bit of DJ gear ever made imo. Pioneer have always won the beauty contest though. The Prime 4, while I think is still gonna be the MVP in the 4 channel standalone category, is a bit ugly in comparison.
    I don't really see the point of the little screens on each deck. They will be useful when mixing on all four decks, but there's enough room on that main screen to do the four wavelength columns. At that price I would expect performance pads and, like you said, Phil, some other features like SD card slots and slip mode.
    That X/Y effects controller is nice! Bravo Pioneer.
    That price is crazy though. As expected from Pioneer, but damn why did it have to look so good. It's like a retro games console. I never had an Atari 2600 (too young) but I love that aesthetic. I need this unit just decorate my room. I wonder if pioneer will sell me just the outer casing?

    PioneerDJ is delusional if they really believe this is really aimed at mobile DJs, and missing all the things mobile DJs want and would use in a stand alone. No pad modes, no sampler, no slip mode, no video out (boasting an internal cpu but can't offer an HDMI out, many mobile DJs use & want video, yet you keep missing that point, but it's for mobile DJs. Who does your research?). But the price is through the roof as usual. look, I don't doubt DJs mind paying as long as it meets their needs, but honestly this doesn't, so mobile DJs on a whole will leave this alone, cause it's not enough to make them put down their favorite controller and laptop. Nice application of the XY effects though. As usual the 1% that can afford it will buy it, but not who you say outwardly it's for, as PioneerDJ is known for and demostrated time & again when it comes to these "high end" units. This ain't even gonna scratch farless dent the Prime 4 market. The SC Live units are more useful to mobile DJs than this, onboard speakers and all, and they are more affordable than the Prime 4, realistically speaking.

Having the extra utility menu tabs to control more is really great too. I think staying in the Rekordbox Ecosystem is crucial for working pros. Especially those that want a standalone that they can bring to private bookings and any time spent building libraries, analyzing files, etc. is all ready for the club/festival. The X Y effects on the mixer Pre-dates any app on the iPad. Years ago Korg had a 2 channel and a 4 channel mixer with the Korg Kaossilator built in and it is so much fun doing effects this way. But you run into the same problem as the Korg, which is you get all excited with techniques you discover but don't have it available to use at some of your best gigs. But I agree with others that the price should have been much cheaper if Denon can get their price that low.

      This can be useful let say you got a backing track for the kicks, hats and snares on deck 1, and melody and vocal on deck 2 and 3 and you want FX (echo/reverb) only on deck 2 and 3 so the backing track on deck 1 doesn't get the FX's.

It seems I have no choice but to wait or go with the prime 4 plus. I had the prime 4 and didn’t love it. Sold it. It’s far improved in the last couple years especially on the plus. But man what a bummer this doesn’t have all the things …. And when the hell are we getting motorized fully standalone ???? How many years are they gonna drag out these tiny incremental upgrades ?

      Slip mode is a really poor omission, there's even a button that could be used. We agree with that. Sampler, streaming - many DJs would take or leave these things.

    I think a lot of these are going to sell. Over the past week the amount of XDJ-XZ that went for sale multiplied! There was 2 available within 50 miles and now there’s like 12. And the prices are crashing on xz’s. I ordered one and it should be here march 24. I DJ at bars and private parties and my other platform is djm-a9 or V10 and Cdj-3000’s. Just depends on the event I’m doing. Can’t wait to try this out and report back to you.

    Double the price of Prime 4
    But they finally did a complete job
    Even the name is new and different
    Looks like an #RX3 & #Prime4 had an affair and this is their baby

      Yes, the really interesting thing here is that it is apparently a complete new "product line".

      @@digitaldjtips suggesting they will perhaps have other devices that share this design language like opus dual, or opus one media player. I like that could replace the XDJ line!
