I never knew the brakes were like car brakes. I imagined a 1 shoe type set up. Lots of details on this. Not as scary as I thought ! Thanks for posting@!

You ought to buy a lottery ticket, those brake drums never come off that easy. lol. I always dread doing brakes on the open-frame tractors with Peerless diffs...oddly enough, they always seem to come apart much easier on the closed-frame tractors with Dana diffs. A previous owner redid the brake shoes & springs on my 318 fairly recently, so hopefully I won't have to take them apart for a while.

@mmrbeef do you Have to take all the brake stuff off? like drums and whatnot? Or can you go straight for the cover bolts themselves and remove it as one big piece? Like right away at 0:20 seconds in your video, could you just go straight for them cover bolts instead of messing with brakes? Thanks

I have a 91 420 that one axel won't spin either direction. Is this a sign of a broken axel ? Or something wrong in the differential? Thanks , great videos

Generally that is a symptom of a broken axle. Depending on where the break is you might want to clean out the differential really good in case there are metal fragments in there.

The first two things I would check are the grounds and the fuses. Make sure the ground to the engine is tight on top of the cylinder head. Being a 1984 it should have tube style fuses, make sure those are not blown. Then it’s down to wiring, follow the wires to the termination points.

Are the brake drums the same between the 420 and 318’s?
