Considering the 2600 hardly had any hardware sprites, no priority logic, no horizontal IRQs, and only basic coloring, its pretty impressive what they have done
You've never dealt with the spectrum then.

What do those words mean and why are they good things to have?
@@HereForTheComments Hardware sprites: Sprites (objects that can be moved independently of the background) drawn by the video controller, rather than the CPU
Priority logic: Logic that allows hiding or showing certain sprites or background tiles given conditions
Horizontal IRQs: Interrupt requests a video controller may issue to the CPU when the horizontal blanking periods of a frame are reached, allowing for raster effects (such as per-line scrolling, as seen on many of these demos, probably on the background stars or something)

@@HereForTheComments Priority logic allows for certain things to be "automatically masked" from being shown. Say you want to show the cat on top of the stars. With priority logic, you can just set up a bunch of sprites and it will just work as expected. Without priority logic, you would have to mask the stars manually, like, hiding background pixels given the position of the cat's sprites.
And "Interrupt requests" or "IRQs" for short, are signals external devices can issue to the CPU telling it to stop doing what its currently doing, and handle some external event. Literally: "Hey CPU, something important just happened, can you stop what you're doing, and take a look at this?"
Horizontal IRQs tell the CPU when a scanline has just finished rendering, and the video controller is free to receive commands or writes to change stuff up. Essentially allowing to change properties of the video image per scanline.

I recently got recommended this classic. And it still looks as good as it did back then. I remember watching it when it came out in 2012, and I totally do not regret watching this video. Although the Nyan Cat meme is long since dead, I still sometimes watch them, just for the sake of nostalgia (I'd say 2011-2015 were TH-cam's best years)

It's amazing seeing the capabilities of older hardware through demos
While others look more accurate, the A2600 looks the smoothest as per usual. I RARELY have seen A2600 games run lower than 60 FPS
@solarflare9078 that's because back then consoles didn't have prioritised framerates. They ran off whatever hertz the tv ran at, either 50 or 60
Since Nyan cat is 8-bit, It suits well on any 8-bit platform.
But not on Atari 2600

Man, I remember loving this song as a kid back in 2012-2013. Memories.
I first did heard about "Nyan Cat" during that time (2012-2013)( most likely just 2013) and thought it was "neon" cat and some kid,and I think it might have been one of my friends,randomly(? ) decided to reference it for some reason,I think they were referencing a reference of it in some movie and I think that movie might have maybe been "The Lego Movie"? and I think they decided to draw it when everybody had the opportunity to draw it, and also other things. (I'm almost 100% certain of this).( because I might have accidentally or somehow rather gotten to have been knowing of it and just can't remember that so, I just remember what was my clearest and first memory of hearing of it is.). But I know this experience definitely did happen at some period in time

I was incredibly impressed by the spectrum version. Atari 800 was decent too. Surprised the c16 was able to sample like that.
C16 can use PCM, but it takes up a lot of CPU. Think of it as how PCM works in the NES and SMS.

I'm pretty sure that with the way color is handled on the Spectrum, it would actually be impossible to perfectly recreate it on original hardware

The ZX Spectrum version is basically using EVERY color available, there are no other colors to use besides the ones seen.

Basically the existence of the Atari 2600 was an entire joke. It was more like a mass of jumbled pixels you could barely control, and it hurt your eyes. That's why I sold mine.

I find the Atari 2600 version oddly comforting even though it sounds strange compared to the original.
0:43 you wake up deep at night ,and you hear a strange song from the hall. You go into that room around only darkness ,and it tells you: "Run before too late". You trying to run but it catches you, and you wake up in a cold sweat.

Curious as to how they managed sample playback on the Commodore 16. I know the C64 had tricks for that, but I'm not familiar with any for the cut-down sibling. Very cool! Gotta pick the Speccy here though, but the Atari 800 is cool too!

The reason the atari 2600 version looks bad is because the 2600 has barely any RAM, infact, it only has 128 BYTES of RAM!
