fun fact: this album is dedicated to her ex husband, the same guy she dedicated "vespertine", when she was falling in love with him. also, the first 5 (or 6?) songs were written in chronological order in the different states of her relationship, pre and post her breakup. her next album "utopia" is about her "mourning" phase and healing. the additional vocals on atoms dance are by anohni, fka as antony and the johnsons, and by the way she released a new album today July 7th :P
Family is 10/10 experience. Mouth Mantra is about her vocal cord issues on 2012. Where she had to get surgery in the middle of Latin American concerts. Atom Dance is a duet with Anohni, she also sings with her in Björk's 2007 album Volta.
Being Consistent: Smags 🤝 Bjork If you enjoy the production on this album, Bjork did it all, and had help from Arca most prominently. She even arranged the strings herself. This album is the anti-Vespertine. That album was about the birth of the relationship that this album mourns the loss of. I've gotta plug it again, but I hope you get to "( )" by Sigur Rós sometime soon. So many live instruments and a real, quintessential post-rock album.
Also History of Touches spells HOT (it was actually written as “Hot” on the paper setlist during the tour) Mouth Mantra is not about the relationship but about her vocal surgery. Quicksand was written after her mum got in a coma for a whole following health issues. Vulnicura is not only a heartbreak album is also about struggles in her life in general
If you can, please listen to album that followed this one: Utopia. It's essentially the sequel to Vulnicura, the hopeful lift after all the darkness here.
I dug Bjork in the late 80s when she came on the scene, and just organically, my daughter (in her 20s) discovered her and really loves her. She tried to turn me on to her music and I said, oh yeah, Bjork is amazing! Cheers, glad you enjoyed it
Now we need an Arca reaction (she's the producer on this album and the next Bjork album, Utopia) I'd highly recommend listening to KicK iii, really shows the crazy side of Arca's solo work.
Been listening to Björk since middle school. I’m 20 and I only just listened to Vulnicura for the first time after my first breakup. It’s come at such a necessary part in my life, and my love for her’s only grown
This album is referred to as her Heartbreak Album . (This was also produced with/by ARCA) At this point she is Divorcing her husband Matthew w/ whom they have a daughter, the same man she was hesitant to open and hand herself over to , in VESPERTINE 😢. The sense of Loss and the amount of Pain is So Visceral that the listener can feel it on every level. As always job 🥂& Hope you get a chance to listen to BIOPHILIA (2011) & VOLTA (2008??) The next album after Vulnicura is UTOPIA, which is personally one of my favorite albums of hers.
I actually listen to Vulnicura and Utopia together. It feels more complete. Long af, but like a full journey has been made (with plenty of sonic variety along the way). Also, the end of Vulnicura leads beautifully into the start of Utopia. It makes sense since they are basically companion pieces.
Since you did this album, you should listen to Utopia next, followed by her most recent album, Fossora. With Vulnicura, they form a trilogy starting with her breakup, then moving into a world of idealized paradise in Utopia while still dealing with aspects of her breakup, and then coming back down to earth again and growing her roots in Fossora. All three are connected in one big story arc.
Just found ur account - everything I’d want. Have you heard heaven or las vegas by cocteau twins? Going by ur other vids you’d surely love it. If not, anything by Pj Harvey is incredible - my favourite is let england shake but from her older stuff definitely Rid of Me
Would love to see you listen to "Serotonin II" by yeule. It's a pretty unknown album with similar vibes to this record, i think you could like it. Love the videos btw :)
I'd really appreciate if you reviewed Volta or Biophilia next, but judging from your reactions to History of touches and the end part of Family on this album, I think you're gonna like Utopia more, as it has a pretty similar vibe to these songs. I'm not really a fan of this album, because I think that Björks voice doesn't really work well with Arca's production, but that's more of a problem of my personal taste. Volta in comparison has more of a Post vibe to it, and is much louder and out there, and Biophilia has a very musically confusing production and great vocals, both I really love, but I'm not sure if it would fit your taste. Thanks for the awesome Vulnicura review, and hope to see more of your Björk reviews soon
Not fan of this album . But history of touches production music is awesome and the track family is the best song of bjork . The final part after the big violon , my god I am in trance. I love the 2 minutes outro of family song .
even tho some utopia tracks are bloated asf I think there are some of bjorks best songs ever. Arisen My Sensess, The Gate, Saint, Loss, It all comes down to taste I guess. I love the psychedelic fairy garden foggy vibe. You shouldn't write off her work post Medulla, even Fossora is too good.
The first few tracks of utopia were great, the rest I wasn’t a fan of. Bjork did plenty of great songs after medulla like wanderlust, innocence, virus, her songs with dirty projectors, and pretty much all of vulnicura.
Every second of my life has led up to this moment

we gonna need a bjork worst to best at this point
If you can, please listen to album that followed this one: Utopia. It's essentially the sequel to Vulnicura, the hopeful lift after all the darkness here.

This is in my top 3 favorite björk albums. Every song is so beautiful in so many different ways.
Been listening to Björk since middle school. I’m 20 and I only just listened to Vulnicura for the first time after my first breakup. It’s come at such a necessary part in my life, and my love for her’s only grown
History of touches always remind me to Desired Constellation.
Gotta hit up her album Utopia. It's her back on her trying to love again arc, a renaissance of that spark

History of Touches is one of my favorite Björk songs, listening to that song after listening to Cocoon (from Vespertine) is so sad
Also the other vocalist in Atom Dance, are Anohni's, she's also a great artist, Hopelessness was such a gem from 2016
Behold, Mr. Consistency!
I actually listen to Vulnicura and Utopia together. It feels more complete. Long af, but like a full journey has been made (with plenty of sonic variety along the way). Also, the end of Vulnicura leads beautifully into the start of Utopia. It makes sense since they are basically companion pieces.
23:14 the healing comes in Utopia
This one is about she suffering after her life with her ex ended and she trying to understand what happened
OMG YAY!!! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!!
mouth mantra has to b her hardest song to date, that shit hits every single time
Since you did this album, you should listen to Utopia next, followed by her most recent album, Fossora. I think a lot of context is added to this album when you know people call it the “divorce album”
Just found ur account - everything I’d want. Have you heard heaven or las vegas by cocteau twins? Going by ur other vids you’d surely love it. If not, anything by Pj Harvey is incredible - my favourite is let england shake but from her older stuff definitely Rid of Me

Be ready for utopia reaction ^^ the worst album of bjork . Since medulla bjork don’t really do good songs like before . Sadly
even tho some utopia tracks are bloated asf I think there are some of bjorks best songs ever. Arisen My Sensess, The Gate, Saint, Loss, It all comes down to taste I guess. I love the psychedelic fairy garden foggy vibe. You shouldn't write off her work post Medulla, even Fossora is too good.
