That's why Drake was considered to be in the same league as Kendrick, because most spectators of the rap feud weren't actually passionate about rap, they were passionate about the rap artist they were backing (Drake or Kendrick), which has been reflected by the drones of stans still trying to defend Drake even tho he definitively lost and was never even close to Kendrick when looking at all the factors that makes a goat lyricist. Rap beef is no longer about the raps anymore, it's about the status of the rap artist, and that was exposed in the Kendrick vs Drake beef when the majority of ppl chose a side to d-ride and be biased towards halfway through the beef, before it even got to later tracks like Family Matters. By the time Not Like Us was trending, ppl weren't even hiding their bias anymore and it's only been downhill ever since. If Kendrick truly cares about hip hop, I think he should respond to keep the spirit and essence of the game alive, the actual RAPPING and content, not how popular an artist is. However, the only arguments I can understand to justify Kendrick not battling Joey would be that the Kendrick and Drake beef HAD to happen as it was brewing for over a decade and it was needed to define which rapper would go down in history as the front runner of their generation. Now that it's over, Kendrick has kind of "completed" his career and his generation of rap has pretty much passed, so he deserves to do what he wants as he lets the new gen carve their places in hip-hop history. The Kendrick and Drake beef was legendary, but the reason it was even as big as it was wasn't because it was a battle of the two BEST rappers, it was battle of the two BIGGEST rappers, and unfortunately that's what sells. That's why Drake was considered to be in the same league as Kendrick, because most spectators of the rap feud weren't actually passionate about rap, they were passionate about the rap artist they were backing (Drake or Kendrick), which has been reflected by the drones of stans still trying to defend Drake even tho he definitively lost and was never even close to Kendrick when looking at all the factors that makes a goat lyricist.
Rap beef is no longer about the raps anymore, it's about the status of the rap artist, and that was exposed in the Kendrick vs Drake beef when the majority of ppl chose a side to d-ride and be biased towards halfway through the beef, before it even got to later tracks like Family Matters. By the time Not Like Us was trending, ppl weren't even hiding their bias anymore and it's only been downhill ever since.
If Kendrick truly cares about hip hop, I think he should respond to keep the spirit and essence of the game alive, the actual RAPPING and content, not how popular an artist is.
However, the only arguments I can understand to justify Kendrick not battling Joey would be that the Kendrick and Drake beef HAD to happen as it was brewing for over a decade and it was needed to define which rapper would go down in history as the front runner of their generation. Now that it's over, Kendrick has kind of "completed" his career and his generation of rap has pretty much passed, so he deserves to do what he wants as he lets the new gen carve their places in hip-hop history. I don't agree with this take entirely, but I can understand it to an extent despite still preferring him to battle Joey overall.
Ultimately, ppl don't care about RAPPING, they care about RAPPERS, and once they choose a side, objectivity and love for the game goes out the window, which is why dumbasses are saying Joey is clout chasing when this callout is literally as traditional as competitive hip-hop gets.

For those saying this is great coz it's his "control", it's really not. When Kendrick did control he targeted ALL of his 'peers' to ignite competition. He didn't target one individual who may have been hot at the time. This ain't what Joey is doing. Kendrick is up right now, he IS the flag-bearer of hip hop and even us outside the US are loving where hip hop currently is because of him. We all know joey can rap that's not in question, but i'd rather hed've done a 'control' for the rest of the game or for the east coast specifically to ignite that fire at home in his backyard first.
