Just so you know, the jumper on the back of the Jones plug connects the transmit power amp to the internal 12v (OK, 13.8v) bus, without it the radio can't go into transmit to the aerial, but the IF and low-power transmit stages operate - his can be useful when fault-finding!
When I connected power to a 757 gx (I just got from EBay) the magic smoke came out before it even reached 3 amps input. This was with the jumper on. With the jumper off there is some clicking like noise. However there is nothing else... No lights, no static, no nothing. I kind of figure this is a badly botched radio the guy call "excellent condition." He went as far as giving specs that are not possible. Now I must figure out how to handle this piece of junk.
Now, December 2024, that Jones plug is no longer manufactured. If you can find a cable, the going price is 40 usd, both new and used. BTW, i just looked at another video saying dont pay more than 150 for a working 757gx with the necessary goodies.
Whoa... I would never have thought you would deliberately neglect an inline fuse, I reverse engineer power leads when uncertain of the pin out working first with the radio to determine which pin is which (DMM & visually) YMMV :)

Does anyone know what are the Yaseu ft-757gx Power Transistors in the PA board and where I can find them? Anyone know where I can purchase a OA board?
