    This is a real technician..and they way we do things. ..we use a schematic and we go step threw step threw the RF chain ..this insures that we are not leaving anything behind ..when u jump around ..u can spend all day to find a simple issue ..but when u use your equipment properly and go threw the chain of electrical RF path you most always find the issue.... Great great job... Real technician!!! Makes me smile ...

    Just for anyone with no TX on the 757 you can’t remove the coax from the exciter board because it is diode switched and the switching voltage comes down the coax from the PA board so if probing leave the coax in. There should be 2-3 volts peak there on the oscilloscope. Thanks for the video

    Way to easy, but not always the case, as seen here and on TRX Bench and Mr. Carlsen's Lab. Keep them coming, I'll keep watching.

    amazin that the guy who had it apart doin the lights could not think this out....that it might be some movement of cables that HE DID and save time going to get it looked at..

      +orbiter8 (John) Hello John, good to see you stop by. I had a feeling this one would be a simple fix since the owner did a little work, but at the same time was thinking it could had been a major failure. The way the 757 is designed it is so easy to short things out. They do not give you much slack in the cables once you break it apart. These are good radios but they do have CPU problems and are unobtainable. Luckily this one is in decent shape. Thanks for your comments my friend. Buddy

    I just picked up an FT-757GX with no power. I have NO experience diagnosing or fixing radios but may open it up and look for something obvious.. THanks

    • @brianshanahan3878
      @brianshanahan3878 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      IT WAS SOMEHING SIMPLE! the "silicon" like stuff in the plug had become like a semiconductor over the decades and was shorting it. I scraped it out and powered up! Only with a little confidence gained by watching videos like this one!

    I recently bought a 757gx at a hamfest. It came with the FP 757gx power supply. When I attempt to apply power to the transceiver, relay R1 in the power supply opens and shuts the power down. There are no blown fuses on the radio. I have not tried connecting the transceiver directly to battery power yet. Any ideas watching on with the power supply? I tested the output of the power supply and it a steady 13.8 volts until I apply a load (the transceiver).
    Jeff

      +DENNIS N This attenuator is 150 watt unit. I cannot remember the model number but it came with my Com Ser labs service monitor when I bought it.Think it is switchable between 20 and 40 db. I will check on it and draw a schematic so you can build one.

    Would you happen to have an IC for this ft-757, MC1468050, Yaesu part #(SC82088P) my switch for the 500k step doesn't work, and I traced it to pin 15 of this chip, the voltage changes from 0 to 5V pressing the button, but 500k steps doesn't work

  • @tedn4yx628

    Oh Yeah ... the way these "clam shell" 757 rigs are designed it's easy to pull out an inter-stage coax connector. BTW ... how do like having to remove that shield in order to accomplish a proper alignment? Yaesu put access holes in for only some of the trimmers. Nasty!

    Love your videos. I have watched about all of them now and have learned quite a few tricks. I do some modest repair videos too, AERVBlog but we can all learn can't we.
    Question for you. I have aYaesu FT757GX (ebay find cheap) that I have mostly fixed but it still has a problem. When I transmit I can hear myself in the speaker. It is really bad on FM. I have changed all the diodes and checked about everything I can think of. Any ideas on this. Thanks

    I have been following your videos, the one that you was cleaning the switches with white vingar, what I want to know is can I was my yeasu ft101 with this solution I will remove the vfo unit, all relays, meters tubes and transformer and front panel do you think submersing the rest of the transceiver in a tub of this solution would harm the radio cleaning thge radio this way. its dirty all inside and from what I gather it will remove the oxsidation throughout this unit . please email me back and give me your opinon on this thanks Charlie

      FYI I tried this with an old television set. I took the case off, hosed it out with a garden hose and let it dry for several weeks to make sure the parts were completely dry. It worked fine.

    Nice to have an easy fix every once in a while! What do you call those connectors? I know I've heard the name in the past but for the life of me can't remember it. I'd like to make up a couple to have around to make it easy to connect to the PCB side when looking at a radio that uses them. Looks like you could make a patch cable using RG-174 if you had new connectors and could crimp them.

    • @TheRadioShop
      @TheRadioShop  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dino Papas Hi Dino. Yes very nice to get an easy one. Those connectors are called TMP. I had to go ask to find out myself lol. And now I know the name of them think I will order a few spares. Thanks for your comment :)Buddy

      @PapasDino 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +The Radio Shop Thanks Buddy, as soon as I saw TMD (Taiko-Denki) I remembered. INRAD has them and I just ordered some male/female PCB units along with a couple of 8" leads. Will stash them away for that Sunday afternoon when you say to yourself "Self, I sure wish I had one of those!" 73 - Dino

    • @TheRadioShop
      @TheRadioShop  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dino Papas Good deal. I still have a few that has been removed from old radios.  Do you have the crimp toll for the male plug? I though my AMP pin crimp toll was high at 380 bucks. But these can run up to a grand. 73 Buddy

    • @PapasDino
      @PapasDino 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +The Radio Shop Nope, don't have that tool for sure! Have nice one for Powerpoles and coax which surprisingly does a pretty good job with terminals as well, and a RJ-11/45 crimper as well - they all come in very handy. I was a little reluctant at first with coax crimps but once I got the hang of it I only solder if I have to (and then use silver connectors only!). CUL.
