More like it is about two men arguing. One is the father of a beautiful daughter, the other is a man trying to court the daughter. They both work with seaweed: One likes seaweed from the cliff, one likes seaweed from the ocean. So there is no point in arguing because they are both good., no right or wrong answer. The father wants to protect his daughter but the young man trying to win her over will take care of her. No point in arguing because they both have the daughter's best interests. Get the comparison?
Cross species relationships rarely are successful, but I did see a documentary about a woman who married a building, so I suspect anything goes nowadays.
The BEST song ever written about seaweed. Seriously, this is class. I love the rhythms. Too many amateur choirs I've heard singing this don't get the driving rhythms which Michael has very cleverly made such good use of.
It is about an irish seaweed gatherer that is his job and another seaweed gatherer threatens to kidnap his daughter..and it gets intense. but there are lyrics about gathering seaweed in general. :)
My choir sang this today. We got four first division ratings on a concert. I was lucky enough to be chosen to have the solo. This video was how I figured out how to pronounce the solos. Thank you, Mr. McGlynn.
This is a story about a young seaweed gatherer. He is trying to win the heart of an older seaweed gatherer's feisty daughter. 'Dúlamán' means seaweed, as it has been said, and it is his nickname because of the type of seaweed he gathers for his job. Also in the song, the mother gives advice to the fesity daughter about the boy Dulaman.
I had the pleasure of helping host this group when they came to Ottawa many years back. I was just a teenager, but it was an absolute blast to listen to them, and then go drinking afterwards..... at an Irish pub of all places. We'll all never forget you Eunan and Simon!
Vi ho ascoltato tantissime volte, ed è impressionante quanta voglia avete di cantare la vostra lingua, voi proponete cultura e conservate l'amore dei vostri padri, che Dio vi benedica
Dear Mr. McGlynn: You have created such a masterful choral piece in your native tongue, for either men's women's or mixed ensembles. Furthermore, this may be a push but I could see this song as a battle between a men's ensemble and a women's ensemble with alternating male/female soloists, it's just a thought i had after hearing this being sung by both a men's and women's ensemble. ERIN GO BRAGH!!!!!!
ANÚNA - M'ANAM Wow. I posted this comment my sophomore year of high school. I’m now a freshman in college. It’s crazy to think how fast time flies, and that Anúna actually replied to my comment. And yes I did get the solo.
Yes!!! amazing choir! I can't wait to be with Sir Michael McGlynn next month in Tolosa, Basque Country. We are waiting for you, this is a dream come true. The next dream would be to see Anuna in a concert.. please come to Spain!
The way that man starts out is so intense, like he really means whatever he's saying and I wouldn't mess with him on the streets lol! Happy St. Patrick's day to everyone who is surviving the apocalypse of 2020; wishing health and strength to all of you🍀
Heyo know this is late but we are actually doing this for our competitive choir to try and qualify for state? Just felt like sending this to know that Washington state choirs still be out here doing this song
I first heard this piece in New York sung by another choir and then I found this group and I'm HOOKED! Michael McGlynn writes such amazing things. The gaelic is sung with such intensity, I could go on forever with how much I love this. Anuna is wonderful!
I wanted to add , Since popular music gives us no heros these days, those of us that are music junkies have to go looking for good stuff in other places , we discover artists like Anuna , Nightwish and Celtic Woman , I've corresponded with Michael , I feel Anuna is fantastic and will continue to follow them ,
When my high school choir sang this song, we stomped our feet down on the risers hard, in beat on each refrain. Afterward, a lot of kids were saying they were afraid the risers were going to collapse! It was loud!
I remember seeing Anuna on the "Riverdance" video years ago but I never found anything here. I just happen to stumble upon them again while looking for "Scarborough Fair" on here and they have become my new obsession! I just love Anuna!!!
as both a lover of Irish music, particularly Gaelic music, as well as someone who has been in pretty intensive vocal training since about age 5 (25 now) it takes a lot to impress me, and you guys have officially impressed the pants off me! you are my new favorite Choral group, thank you for brightening my day and restoring my faith that some people still view music as an art instead of just a way to make money and be famous!
Heard the Celtic Woman version a couple of years ago and really liked it Then I heard this version....LOVED it....so sad that I can only hit the "like" button once. Thank you, Mr. McGlynn.
I saw this superb choir in concert in Ft. Worth, TX around Thanksgiving and they brought the house down. AWESOME. The only drawback was the seating in Bass Performance Hall. I can only speak for the mezzanine seating, but, it totally blows. You are sitting right on top of each other. Next time, I hope to have better seats from which to more richly enjoy the fine performance.
This reminds me (as a Scot) most of our own Gaelic 'Port a beul', and I am not at all surprised to find a 'romantic' theme sung with such pace as the idea behind 'mouth music' is to provide music to dance to when no instruments are available. It also reminds me of the work songs sung by Hebridean women waulking tweed. Irish and scottish Gaelic cultures are sisters, close cousins at most.
'til now, i've only listen to they're music, and this is one of my favorite songs!!!!!! now i've seen how they look like, every time i listen this song, i'll remember this video!!!!!!!!!
I have to learn this with my Choir along with Fionnghuala for our Ireland trip! It's gonna get crazy trying to speak these languages in order to sing them, but it's by no means any less fun. But ye gods, they are quite the pair of beauty!
I first heard Dulaman from Celctic Women and loved it! Then I realized our choir was going to do Dulaman and to my surprise it was this one! I was hooked ever since.
WOW! Thank you for this song! You sound amazing! I’m Dutch and live in Ireland now for 5 years, I plan to stay here forever, also because of the music. When I first heard Iggy Callaghan sing this song in Kelly’s pub in Timahoe, it grabbed me right away, I SO love this song! I always ask him to sing this song, now in Connolly’s pub in Donadea, but to find this video makes me even happier! A big thumbs up!
At 1:04 Michael looks at the lead vocalist like "easy their bud, that was almost to quiet". Ha ha ha. No one is perfect. I love the music they do. Awesome!!!
What? Slower? O.O Wooooow... I've always been in awe of this song (when Anuna sings it only), but now you're saying this is slower than usual...! Wow... Congratulations on such beautiful voices!
my men's ensemble performed our own rendition of this piece just recently and we won our regional competition! we're going to be singing this at state!!!
I found this song by chance and noticed myself humming it throughout the day. My roommate wanted to know what it was, and now it's on his top 10 most played songs. I like the CD version of this song, but I think I'm a little more partial to this version. Thanks for uploading it!
Seaweed is pretty intense.
Yeah, never knew seaweed could be so exciting.
Especially if it almost drowns you ...
Destoyed my little boat engine. RIP boat. Damn you, blasted seaweed 😡
Phahahaha!! Oh my gosh that made me laugh
@Lalealyn but like.. Seaweed tho
My choir is singing this and it sounds so epic and then someone told me that this song is about the love of sea weed
Still pretty epic since that sea weed was pretty important during famines ;)
yes it is

mariemonstre that would probably make more sence than seaweed

I discovered this because it was played over a video of a guy jumping onto the back of a shark and riding away
Same bruh

Thank you Jonah. Makes me very happy to hear this
The acoustics of that venue are like 50% of the epicness. The reverb is so real.
Wow, such intensity in a short time! And that guy's smirk at 1:44 is the best, he's like,"Nailed it! Now clap, you peasants." Ahahaa... XD
That guy is the Irish and music teacher at our school, and now a deputy principal xD He's awesome.

Multi tracking. And a little gin.

ANÚNA - M'ANAM I love alcohol lol
Buy better headphones, they don't sound like 40 at all. You ever heard a choir of 40?
For my part, I like the way the solo is delivered here. I like the rythm and it feels like he's telling us a tale
I love this song, and I love how Anuna does it. The speed and the intensity are- delicious.
I can't stop listening to these heavenly sound waves.

I love music like this. Reminds of Gaelic storm and celtic thunder. Both groups I have loved for a while now. Great song.
Oh the confidence in those voices!
Extraordinary!! Congratulations for all !!
Everyone in my choir wants me to sing the solo, but I'm having trouble with pronunciation, still my favorite choral piece yet though.
Ty Hyundai I hope you had a go Ty!

What a beautiful group of singers!
Gets my blood going every time. The intensity is there. Where Michael gets his ideas I sometimes have to wonder...
This song is SO FREAKING GOOD, it makes me feel like I'm on a quest through ancient lands or something
My school did this and I learned the solo! This was as a freshman, and I'm really proud of myself. I can still do it!

One of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard
I've heard other performances of this piece but never any as intense as this one. I love it. Thank you for posting it.
Can't get enough of this song lol Their voices are amazing; this requires so much concentration. Love it. Favorite of Dulaman to be honest : )
This is one of the real 'shivers down spine' pieces - absolutely brilliant!
I heard these guys sing this live in Ireland.. complete with the candles and everything. What. An. Experience.
