Nice install. I like that bracket setup. You know if you want to know exactly what your trans temperature is you can get a cheap bluetooth code reader that plugs into you obd2 port. Then get the Torque app and set it up to read trans temp. Then you can set up your phone to display trans temp or customize it to display many different parameters... throttle position, speed, etc. There's a free version of Torque but it doesn't have the capability of reading trans temps. You don't need to run any wires to the trans. The sensors are already inside the trans. I paid $5 for the app a couple months ago and $12 for the Bluetooth code reader. I use an old Android cell phone to see the trans temp readout and velcroed it to the dash. (I'm not associated with Torque app or anything else.) I'm going to be installing a bigger trans cooler because the current one I installed on a Trailblazer allowed my temps to get up to 210 when towing and I heard it's best to keep it below 200. The temp was okay 195 or so when driving but increased to over 200 when I stopped driving but still had vehicle running.
You should have went with the better unit than the one you bought. Tru cool 40k is worth it. But it's better to have a unit like that then nothing. Kind of interested to hear about your new tune.
It was a gift so I'm using it for the time being and agreed thats more than likely the one im going to go with once I get the built 4l60e. The tune is pretty nice so far. I'll do a video once it's finished.
@@MitchCarveth look forward to seeing it. The 4l60e isn't a bad transmission like everyone says. It just needs to be taken care of and built up if you're running nitrous or any power adders.
You didn't show us how you found out which is the return line can you tell me how you figure that out was it because it was on the top of the transmission or the front part of the transmission or because of that line went to the back part of the transmission cuz I don't know mine which is exactly like this and how you figure out which is the return line and that's why I'm watching video to try to figure out which line is the return and which is line is the supply thanks for your help I appreciate it
tip add wire along outside of hose so not to have hose get hot and collapse. i used the wire tie from chain link fencing tie wrapped and electrical taped it up.
"Which one is the return"... How do we determine which line is the return? Is it marked on the transmission? When adding (not replacing) a cooler, is it added before or after the in-radiator loop?
1st off if you want serious trans cooling capabilities you should have install a trans cooler with a fan. 2nd trans cooler always work much better as a stand alone unit this is because silverados coolant run around 205-210° so sending trans fluid through radiator tank to be HEATED first is not ideal. Keep in mind the laws of thermal dynamics "heat goes to a cooler place".
Do you have headers? My super 40 didn't clap really at all. If you have headers more than likely going to need a resonater to tune the sound. Depending on placement it will tune the low end, mid or high end. Thinking about doing it for my truck tbh.
we talking with the resonater? from the research I have done that seems to get rid of the clapping, I can't say 100% for sure without having tried it first hand. Like I said though, i dont remember my 40 clapping too bad with headers and no cats. I'm also comparing it to my TR which claps a decent amount though.
I got a couple questions cause i'm building my 2000 GMC Sierra that has a 5.3. What kind of radiator should I get? Cause i'm pretty much doing all the same mods you got going on. Also whats a good site to get the tru cool 40k kit? And what mods are a good idea to do to the transmission?
So i'm not 100% sure on the radiator but I ended up going with a 2 core aluminum radiator with efans to try out, haven't installed it yet. As for the 40k kit, I would look at summit racing or ebay to be honest. Transmission mods so far i just have a corvette shift servo and custom tune right now. I did find a different 2600-2800 stall i am thinking about trying again.
sorry for the late reply, I actually had to do deal with this on my buddy's truck and I just re-tapped the threads on the radiator and used a NPT Male Thread to NPT Female Thread Brass Reducer and it hasn't leaked since.
I did notice a drop in temps but was unable to get comparable data do to the engine cutting lose on me. after the new engine is built and in the truck I will have more info on that.
I've seen compression fittings at Autozone before, worst case is order these from tru-cool or try your local transmission shop, I'm sure they would be able to sell you some.
Well done! I’m planning on using an aftermarket with a fan in tandem with my stock cooler. Do you happen to have the part number for those compression hose barbs?
Nice quick, easy set up! I am about to connect my external cooler very similar to yours. Is your run with the Radiator & External or just external cooler?
No need to bleed it because of how thick the transmission fluid is and how much pressure its under once you start the truck any bubbles you have acquired will dissipate.
What are the two other lines coming out into that small vertical cooling device, is the the oil cooler lines. Is the a 4.8l I swapped my 4.8 for a 6.0 and I’m about upgrade to aluminum Mishiimoto radiator, should I run the oil cooler lines through that or leave it in the original 4.8 configuration

Im in the same spot as you, I have the same truck but 4x4 LTZ 07 new style, I pull about 4000lb with a 6in left on 35s and my normal temp without pulling anything is 150-190 at 100 degrees going about 65mph and that’s without me stepping on it, pulling is about 200 degrees. I have had to stop a hand full of times because I was at 199 degrees. The factory stacked plate cooler is more thermally efficient than the one you installed, it's kind of a downgrade.

How though? The bigger one with more surface area wouldn’t cool it down more? Or are you saying the design itself is moot?
