    I have recently checked out many drummers. Impressed by the work of Gavin Harrison, Thomas Lang, Danny Carey, coming from Bruford, Pert, Bonham and others. All of them with different styles and techniques but listening to Donati is taking me to another level. Something different in music dimension is being coming up since then in me.

    • @inthedream9127
      @inthedream9127 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dude! I feel very much the same. My favorite from the start was always Peart, and then I branched out to Carey, Bruford, Jon Theodore and some others (definitely check out Jon’s stuff with Mars Volta if you haven’t already). I was convinced Peart and Carey were the best ever until I discovered Virgil a few years ago. There will never be another drummer on this mans level. Everything he does is leagues above. His limb independence is mind blowing. Sometimes I doubt that he’s even a human

    • @killboybands1
      @killboybands1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think the thing that sets Donati apart from a lot of the other super drummers is his ability to rhythmically get "inside" the ideas that the other players are playing and improvising. It's one thing to have advanced independence and rhythm vocabulary and throw them out there at will (like licks) but it's another thing entirely to be able to react and complement the advanced rhythmic vocabulary of others in the heat of the moment. Vinnie Colaiuta is the prime master of that kind of listening and reaction. I think Virgil has that kind of ability as well.
