    Sorry to hear about your work situation Mark. I wondered why the web site (as a customer from Denmark but English) was not really working. Such a major company in the dive world, what a shame but not knowing the in`s and out`s!!
    Best to you and I am sure your future will be fine...your videos are good.

      Thanks Dude, yeah, big companies have big over-head costs and they couldn't manage. I'll be fine though, I tend to land on my feet.

    Mark, I'm sorry to hear about Simply Scuba. I'm sad to see they're in this much trouble, since they're a go-to shop for me in Europe. You definitely played a big role in putting them on the map. I hope you'll find something else that you'll enjoy.

    I've had great service from my DIR-style broken off cheap steak knife, because I coat it with the silicone grease I use for my scooter o-rings. No problems with saltwater-induces rusting.

      its the best i use a small cut off bread knife and if i loose one its not a big deal and you can replace them fairly cheap

    You’re going to be very successful without Simply Scuba. Natural talent is hard to come by and you’ve got it.

    I’m looking into buying a new set of regs. I like the idea of a swivel turret first stage, along with a new primary and octo, that I can use both in ‘colder water’ plus abroad ( Egypt etc ) I’m leaning towards APEKS, could I in theory go for a DST first stage, and then something like an MTXR-C or a XL4, would they marry up with the apeks easier then say an oceanic / Hollis first stage?

    • @Ben-ie1ht
      @Ben-ie1ht 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I dont know where you live but in europe there are only a few hollis licenced dive centers so this might be a problem for an regulator overhaul , if i might ask why do you prefer the MTX-R-C over the MTX R because they are fairly identical the RC has an venturi lever and breathing ajustment know the R does it automaticaly . I locked at boath at BOOT 2020 and in the end i got myself a set of MTX R , tbh i dont like to fiddle with these bits underwater and want a good working reg with as little ajustment as possible for stress situations. If ypu want to get the XL4 pay the extra buck to get the + its a far bit better than the noraml on especially in Cold water , i rally like the Hollis 500SE but the service is a bit problematic here otherwise all of them are really good but the MTXR is next level.

    • @SafeDiving
      @SafeDiving  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Apeks MTX comes with a 5-port swivel turret 1st stage so you don't need to mix 1st stages. If you do want to mix regs you need to be careful because only select combinations of 1st/2nd stages are tested and you can't mix brands, it voids warranties and brands will use different interstage pressures so it's best to stick to one brand.

      Safe Diving ah I see! Cheers for the reply Mark! I’ve spoken to my LDS and they’ve said the same thing, they showed me the xtx50’s and I’ve gone for those! Lighter / cheaper and ambidextrous aswell, can use it for a stage when I eventually go on Tec also, went for DIN over A-Clamp

    • @matthewholton2999
      @matthewholton2999 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ben I was looking into the R-C as that was what my local store had there! I’ve actually gone for the XTX50’s

    Hi Mark am thinking of switching from jacket style bcd to hybrid wing style bcd. Any suggestions on a good 1? Keep up the good work.

    • @OrenNoah
      @OrenNoah 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd skip the "hybrid," bite the bullet and go with a real backplate and wing system with a simple harness. When I did that I never wanted to go back.

    • @Ben-ie1ht
      @Ben-ie1ht 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you reallylike hybrid maybe get yourself a Hollis HD 200 but tbh i would rather get a light wing such as the OMS IQ lite it has a flexible and light backplate and if you want afterwards get a steel or aluminum backplate or stay at it despite the weight and price ist in the same range . So only pros to going directy to an bpw wing and if you wnat to go to twins its far cheaper , lets be honest you cant sell old bc s anymore no one buys them i have one on ebay for 6 month now and no one send even an message so the best would be to get right away an bpw .

    • @SafeDiving
      @SafeDiving  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, as the others have said; I'd recommend just switching to a backplate setup. However, if you only want a recreational BCD that's fine, and there are some great ones out there from Mares and Aqua Lung and other brands. It depends what you need in a BCD the most; something lightweight for travel or something tougher that lasts longer.
      I'd be looking at something like the Mares Bolt, Apeks Black Diamond, Hollis LTS. They're all good BCDs.
      Let me know what kind of diving you're into, warm water travelling/cold water, and we can whittle the list down. Also, let me know if you have a short list and I'll let you know if there's anything you should avoid...

    • @lancepriddle8092
      @lancepriddle8092 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SafeDiving that was so helpful as I was looking at the mares bolt. I want a bcd that's tough enough for uk diving but would also like to take on holidays and travel with it. I love the idear of wing style to get great position in the water if you could help wiltel down to a couple good ones that would be so helpful. Many thanks lance.

    I dive with a single 12 l steel tank and think atm about switching to double 12 do you think i can still use my mono 32 ibs wing with the new setup i think i should have enough bojancy from my drysuit and wing and with a single tank i only use 4kg lead so i think its fine what do you think?

    • @Ben-ie1ht
      @Ben-ie1ht 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wouldn't recommend it but tbh i never tried it. If you try it in your local quarry i would definitely bring an experienced dive buddy and a lift bag just in case of not having enough lift to make it back up to the surface

    • @SafeDiving
      @SafeDiving  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The shape of the wing becomes a problem going from singles to twins. Your 32lb wing may not be able to fully inflate because the twin cylinders are in the way. You can try the configuration out in a pool first to see if it works properly, but I'd recommend a proper twin-wing. That way you'll have a better shape to the wing for better trim and you can use all of the buoyancy.

    HI Mark, great to witness you growing channel. Few questions:
    1) Why don't you like fluted SMBs?
    2) Wrist mounted dive computer, left or right? (and why)
    3) Divers Ready posted very valid clip about the future and required changes in the dive industry... th-cam.com/video/1FJcnCRU4jA/w-d-xo.html, would love to hear your opinion.Personally I also think that we have to see this whole CVID situation as opportunity to make SCUBA awesome again.
    Cheers!

    • @Yggdrasil42
      @Yggdrasil42 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fluted SMBs can lose inflation if the opening on the bottom is exposed at the surface, e.g. if it's wavy or you don't keep tension on the line.

    • @SafeDiving
      @SafeDiving  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) There's a chance that they can deflate themselves on the surface. Closed-cell SMBs stay inflated no matter how little gas you put in.
      2) It's changed over the years but Right makes the most sense; my left hand controls my buoyancy so I can monitor my depth on my Right while my Left adjusts buoyancy.
      3) Most professional divers have been discussing these issues for a while now, I'll spend some time on this on the next Q&A, but I stand with James. I think we've seen the same things as professional divers.

    Why the growing(?) use of the North American "diver down" flag when the internationally recognized Alpha flag is already ... um ... internationally recognized.
