Don’t know if y’all ever read these, but I’ve been listening to this song since it came out and I love it. I heard something on the radio about the story but I don’t remember it too well. I go to a Christian school and ran cross country for 5 years (I am a senior as I’m writing this) and my school had to change location because the church did not want us there anymore. This song reminds me of that church and it came out while I was 17 and we were still at that location. I don’t know what any of this has to do with anything but I just wanted to share.
Nothing more than a story of two teenagers and a shared experience. I am a God fearing man and don't feel like this is in any way meant to be sacrilegious or make light of God's love.

I guess the reason why I was kinda skeptical is because I don't understand why the Holy Spirit had to be added to the lyrics... I know I'm overthinking things, but like I don't get it

Yeah definitely no way it was meant to be sacrilegious. After each show Bailey takes about 5 or so minutes on stage to give his Glory to God.

Marcus had it right. Generally speaking the boy in the song is religious or a believer. Whatever term you want to use. He is saying that he feared the devil and this girl’s dad. He mentions being parked in the church parking lot and having a cross hanging from the rear view mirror. Now at 17 and smoking, you are talking about pressures any teenager can face. But yeah. At the beginning, it’s like if he said he only fears 2 things 1.the devil 2.the girl’s dad

What I got out of it was he was in love with the preachers daughter.
Y’all are thinking way too much on this one. Bailey Zimmerman is religious. This is a 2 am booty call with a chick he grew up sneaking around with in high school. We have all done them. Nothing more, nothing less. Me her and the Holy Ghost means him, her, and the Holy Ghost were the only ones who knew. Do not overthink it lol.
