My three Favorite Valdimir DVDs by Russian Martial arts is In confined spaces Beat the odds fundimentals of Knife Defence Your core excerises in Ssystema is your sit ups, press ups, squats, and leg lifts the concepts of breathing is it helps you save energy, control pain and it allows you to moves in subtle ways with out your intentions being read by your attackers.Connecting breathing to your every movements is so very important Movement, structure, breath and relax
The focus of "short work" exercises is not to disable the opponent. It is about controlling the opponent using tension within the opponents body. This work can become surprisingly subtle and effective. Vladimir hit me with one such punch in August this year. As I moved to attack him he dropped a heavy (but soft) fist like a hammer to my rib cage. He did not have to work to find an angle or opening for vital strike....just engaged the first bit of tension I presented him with.
i have used a very similar 'tactic' myself, palm heel upper cut to jaw followed by the elbow to the sturnum, same movement, very useful for when have left hand behind opponents head and striking as mentioned with the righty, also for anti-clinch, useful also when dealing with people who like to hold you around the neck as they 'talk' to you. like maybe a problamatic/threatening customer in a nightclub who is too close etc. like the old one of a hook following through with elbow, i like systema
The ideea of using your opponent's recoil to quickly strike a second time is very interesting. But I noticed that, in this video at least, he doesn't target any internal organs or sensitive pressure-points. He hits right BELOW the solar-plexus. Maybe it's intentional as this is only a demo... Anyway, this seems like a great move for keeping a single opponent off-balance, but I don't know about disabling...
Fwiw, he's not trying to disable the person; he's doing something Systema calls "structure breaking." You can google it, but basically it means hitting the attacker where they hold tension in their body, which breaks down their structure and (eventually) puts them on the ground.
brings new meaning to the old boxing term "the Ol One-two!", I got the book "Let every breath" in the mail the other day hopefully ill have a day off soon to read it. If i was going to get 3 dvds in a package, what would be the best for starting out? im guessing Systema classic excercise, movement and precision and hand to hand?
Probably so the person on the receiving end is able to take a good number of hits safely for the sake of demonstration, instead of possibly doubling over
systema staff is very simple. relax all time and hit and move in all angels in relaxed way without strict line.basically one can learn in that way without any teacher.no knowladge needed at all.one must go step by step in real sparring to even think to use it in real sparring.soft and slow soft and middle slow and soft and close to normal speed.great idea but difficult to fight in that way.

well those pressure points and internal organ strikes you talk about is for an actual fight, not in class as its to train people not hurt them
