  • Thought I'd film a walk through of my process for making a track on the Monomachine. I hope you get something out of it.

    4 years later and people, a small amount, but still an amount of people know and love this thing :) sad to hear that there was a time where this was a misunderstood classic- now it’s just a classic!

    Thanx a lot for making things clearer with this magical but rather esoteric machine! Bought it used three years ago and have yet to see it contribute to actual projects. But there seems to be a lot of committed people out there that keeps loving and exploring it. This walkthrough shows the versatility and originality of the instrument - makes you want to go deeper and using it!

    Hello from the present! I watched this video a couple years ago but hadn't touched my Monomachine until recently. The tips you give still sunk in and I somehow remembered them when I finally took a deep dive into my MNM to produce my first live set. Now I found this video again so wanted to say thanks! I am thoroughly in love with my Monomachine and you are right, it really gets so little love on youtube.

    ALWAYS go to the machine edit page and turn off the Key Tracking. Makes such a huge difference in how 'thick' the sounds are, it is literally the first thing I do every time I make a new kit.

    • @0Fdigital
      @0Fdigital 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually I've found that keeping the HPF keytracking on, setting filter BASE to 8 or 16 and increasing the HPF resonance will give your patch a nice bassy tone, in essence thickening up the sound.
      Also, LPF keytracking is essential for analog style sounds that aren't 303 emulations :D

    • @0Fdigital
      @0Fdigital 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      of course, if you're doing unfiltered FM stuff then it's not needed at all, but imo it doesn't make sense to always turn it off without hearing how it's affecting the sound.

    • @paulthompson9985

    This is a really helpful video, thank you for sharing it! Lots of useful info and tips I wasn´t aware of. I love how the distortion and accumulating gain makes the MNM sound angry but pleasant at the same time.

    good thinking. I've been using the filter off. I considered using the filter off before seeing your video. Then after seeing your video I actually used the low pass off and I liked it. It's critically useful for most situations using the device. There are a few times when it's not there but overall. good.

    The DSND, when set to positive values, will make it a pingpong delay (ie. first delay will be opposite of the pan setting, second will be original, etc etc) if your patch is panned off-centre; if set to negative values, the panning will be the same as the track pan setting. It took me a while to figure this out because if your patch is always panned to the centre, it won't be any different.

    • @0Fdigital
      @0Fdigital 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also works to thicken up a sound-if you pan a channel to the left, set the delay feedback to and time to 0-8 or so, and turn DSND all the way to the right, it gives an effect like doubling, or when the time is at 0, I'm not sure what's happening but it does somehow widen the sound!

      Thank you ☺️ unfortunately I don't have a patreon. I do however release music under the name Miles Cosmo, and now Warm Natural. My music is available in all the expected places, but if you went to Bandcamp that would be best for me I think. Only buy the music if you like it though haha

    ever tried with balanced cables? i don't know if the outputs are balanced, but my OT was so quiet until i changed the cables... ;)

    • @warmnatural
      @warmnatural  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nachtaktiv music I am using balanced leads, it's just how the Monomachine is, it's a common complaint aboit it but that's just because people don't understand how the gain staging works. The default levels on the tracks are just quite low that's all, but you can always boost them

    • @nachtaktiv
      @nachtaktiv 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miles Cosmo ah ok, i never experienced that my MnM is significant quieter that my other machines, more the OT ;)

    • @warmnatural
      @warmnatural  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nachtaktiv music it's not significantly quiet than the other Elektrons, and it's less about quietness and more about warmth and fullness I guess. When you load a default machine, especially the digital wave or VA machines, they're just a bit weak sounding until you start to boost them with the volume knob and drive them a bit. The mono can be super loud of you treat it right, I just think a lot of people don't know they need to use the volume knob to achieve that fatness

    • @nachtaktiv
      @nachtaktiv 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miles Cosmo now it's clear. yes, it can really sound thin and boring until you tweak it. it's hard to get fat and big sounds out of it, but it's possible. but we all maybe have other synths for that. i use the MnM besides chords more for "background" loops and it's perfect for sine sub basses

    • @markofthenorth9512
      @markofthenorth9512 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm gonna have to try that. My OT is also very quiet. Bugs the hell out of me.

    Please if someone can help im running into a wall here: 13:58 everytime i try to do this it does NOT automatically copy my pattern to the new steps. i have 16 step pattern, i do the same procedure as in the video, and it does not copy through to the next steps of the 64 step pattern. they are just blank with no notes on them. i try to manually copy the pattern ([funct] [REC(light off)] and i cannot select which step bank (ex: 17-32, 33-48, 49-64)
    to paste them in, and pasting when i pause the track in the step bank (ex: 17-32) that i want to paste in, doesnt work. maybe i pressed a button that makes these features not work cuz i had luck once with it a while back. help would be appreciated.

    • @MeshMachine
      @MeshMachine 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are looking to copy the page rather than the whole pattern. you need to be in "grid record" mode. So hit [REC] so the record light is constantly on. Hold the [PAGE] button and press [REC] to copy the currently selected page into memory. Press [PAGE] to cycle to the other pages and then hold [PAGE] and press [STOP] to paste the copied page. I do this a lot.
