Has anyone ever noticed that King Shark is always radically different in each new set of media he’s in? I can’t think of another DC character that they keep reinventing from the ground up every time. You have him from, to name a few, the Suicide Squad movie, the Harley Quinn cartoon, and who can forget Mr. “King Shark is a Shark!” From the DC animated movies (Because _clearly_ Constantine never forgot him or his unique Shark-y Style).
First off, Amanda Waller really is a piece of work. Second, the developers of this game really should've paid attention to the green lantern mythos. When the lantern dies, their ring, either flies back to Oa, or select the next replacement and sends that person to Oa for training. It doesn't stay on the ground waiting for someone to pick it up.
eh I mean realistically the ring should have rejected Jon once he was corrupted by Brainiac so my personal head cannon is Brainiac did something to the ring, which is also why the ring didn't resize and it could partially explain why the construct turned on the squad if the ring was corrupting king shark. Alternatively the ring may have chosen to allow King Shark to use it because Jon used its power for evil for so long it may have been balancing the scales to a degree. yet another explanation is that again the ring was corrupted by Brainiac somehow and thus was not operating under the same rules as normal. there are tons of somewhat plausible explanations, but at the end of the day like everything else in Comics devices work as the writers intend, just enjoy the story and don't over think it.

You know they could've made this scene actually work if they just had the Ring pick Shark. Not only would it have a decent way to give Shark, and I know I'm speaking blasphemy in the writer's eyes, an actual character arc. Just have Waller force him to keep the Ring off afterwards and then he calls for it at the end of the game during the big climax so you don't fuck up the gameplay for the rest of the game. Like that's it...that's all they had to do and just have Shark come to realization he doesn't have to be a villain and can actually be a hero that Earth needs. That the Ring saw something in him that was worthy of being a Lantern. And I say this because Shark is the only character that isn't a needless insufferable douche. He speaks some hard facts concerning how the Justice League should be dealt with especially with that scene with Wonder Woman when they saw her new shield. The fact that he is the only one that has some genuine levels of respect and honor should be what enables him to be deemed worthy, realizes that potential after thinking on it after this scene. I don't get how writers can come up with a half decent concept and then just fumble it so hard.

@@Squ3rryNo definitely not. A Lantern's Ring is *the* most powerful weapon in the DC universes, as it's been stated numerous times. It's not something that even beings like Darkseid can replicate, let alone Brainiac. And if there's a reason why the Ring is just dropped in the water then that's the kind of thing that should have a reason explained by at least the end and it isn't. The live service should not exist to extent a game's plot in any way and if that's what they plan on doing to justify it, which they are considering that there are other 12 Brainiacs they have to fight, then they're just hacks using a service that should be exclusive for heavily focused multiplayer games in a single player game.

finally someone complimenting on how king shark isn't bad in this game, hes honestly one of the VERY FEW things this game doesnt fuck up, but of course if everything else about this game was both better, made more sense, and not written by Sweet Baby inc, probably one of the only scenes i found interesting minus the ya know, disrespect from green lantern.

I feel like his ring might be an artificial ring, similar to those yellow lantern battery things but better due to brainiacs tech, as since a lantern dies, the power ring should just fly off to its next wielder (perhaps Rocksteady just didn’t think about this part of the lore but it is usually a universal constant in GL lore) rather than stay on Johns finger and sharky put it on himself. I also think they made it more of a focus on showing the ring just fall into the water instead of flying off rather than focusing on John being teleported.

I like how they portray king shark in the game usually he's just a dumb brute but I like how in the game he is like smart he's still dumb yes but thats only because he's not used to being in the surface and how it works
An easy change I would have made to this scene would be still having the construct shark smash the shield but have it be using every last bit of power remaining in the ring to do so. And with no way to recharge it the ring would be useless and have no more bearing on the game. Also have the option to pick which of the squad does this scene, like Harley makes a giant baseball bat, Deadshot makes a massive gun, and Boomerang making a Giant Boomerang.
To be fair, king shark is probably the most honourable of them all and he had good intentions for the ring not only that but the shark turning round to try eat them could be the ring's way of rejecting him

Wow just.. wow.. if the game wasn't bad enough they get wrong literally everything about Green Lantern and the Green Lantern rings. For starters the ring can't just be put on. You have to chosen by a ring itself before you can even put it on. Which brings me to the second point. When a Green Lantern dies the ring will leave them and search for a new person to wield it, sometimes traveling multiple galaxies to do so. Last but least. You have to possess an incredibly powerful will to even have a small chance to be chosen. So King Shark almost instantly going mad from power in a few seconds he'd never have been chosen. This doesn't work on so many levels that it's actually insulting. Cool visual I'll give them that much. But literally everything else about fails on multiple levels.
But if i remembered correctly, in the comic batman who laughs, the Bruce with the green lantern ring killed the thug who murdered his parents, forcing the ring to be broken and bent to his will. So maybe in this case, this game, green lantern after (probably) killing a lot of people, the ring is broken too, so some function like you said is not working probably, hench why King Shark is able to wield it

Because people are becoming wise that live service games, which is exactly what this is, are ass and designed around making you spend money over and over and over and over again. Whether it's for skins, new characters, new weapons. Whatever it is, they aren't good just boring cookie cutter, copy and paste fights done on repeat. Avengers was the same way and game was DOA even at the height of the MCU's popularity. The only thing that could save this game is because Rock steady made it and people will have Batman Arkham blinders on for a few days at best and then they'll drop it like a bad habit.

Come back and act like you know what you’re saying after at least watching the GL animated show or the animated GL movies. And for your information it’s an extremely basic artificial intelligence that guide the rings not control them. The ones doing the heavy lifting there are Mogo and the Ion entity. Mogo’s morale compass has been referenced several times as the thing that determines who has met the necessary search parameters for the ring. Not an AI, and not even the guardians (who can override that decision, but almost never do). Putting in .EXE.UniversalTranslator and .EXE.Don’tUseLethalForce functions is not the same as what you’re describing. 🙄
Rocksteady had absolutely no idea how the green lanterns work do they. First of all the ring leaves the lantern on death. Second of all you can’t use the ring if it doesn’t see you ass worthy. And third and final gripe the ring doesn’t make you lose your mind and become murderous

Why king shark became green lantern? In state of emergency during apocalyptic time. The ring will pick the nearest greatest will power person . And after the battle depending on the person. The ring would either leave the person or you just read something I made up.
…Yeah that’s not how that works at all. A Green Lantern power ring isn’t like finding a hammer or gun, where anyone can use it. Unless you have met the specific search parameters, and hear this message it’s even less useful than a normal piece of jewelry: “[Insert Name] of [Insert your space sector]. You have the ability to overcome great fear. Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps.”
A green lantern ring also flies away when it’s bearer dies and then starts scanning for a replacement green lantern for that space sector. It’s not going to stay put in one spot like that after the GL dies. Even if it did, King Shark should’ve been teleported straight to OA, which is what happens when that new lantern is chosen. Remember these people are space police, they still have to be trained on how to use it and when lethal force is justifiable. You don’t just give anyone who wants to be a cop a gun without passing tests and weapons training.
You have the creators bad writing to thank for that. But unfortunately since this is an official dc game, ig that is how it works in the arkham verse. And that just means that John Stewart isnt special because anyone can be green lantern

The obvious implication being that Brainiac somehow was able to corrupt the ring as well, which I'm not saying is great writing, but if the ring isn't behaving normally then its fair to assume there is something wrong with it. There are several other oddities with the ring including the fact that despite allowing King shark to use its power the ring doesn't resize to fit him even after forming his suit. Also King shark seems to be struggling to control the ring after his initial attack. King shark is much stronger physically than the rest of the squad but he doesn't really fight to keep the ring he just stands there with his arm out while the try to get the ring off and its not a lack of will power of imagination as his construct is clearly very solid and well defined, so its most likely an outside influence most likely Brainiac attempting to control him through the ring. Again I'm not saying its amazing writing or that it doesn't fly in the face of some Lantern core Lore, but what I am saying is it is still within the realm of Plausibility especially in the world of comics.
Yes, the lantern ring only works if it chooses the wearer. Which obviously means the ring chose to let Shark use it. Just because there wasn't a rave-level light show where it flew onto his finger, doesnt mean it doesnt comply with lore from comics that are built out of retcons and chewing gum.
Alright, I'm not huge into DC Comics and when it comes to green lantern specifically, my main exposure comes from that animated Green lantern tv show that was on Cartoon network, the one where Hal and Killawog teamed up with a red lantern named Razor. That being said, I know its not possible just remove a Green lantern ring, I know that when a lantern dies, the ring finds a new owner within moments of its wearer dying, and that there is no way in hell, that King Shark, or this version of him could ever be a Green Lantern, or wield a Lantern ring
The writers at Rocksteady clearly don’t follow DC lore. You don’t just take the ring and put it on and suddenly you can wield the Emerald Light of Willpower. You have to be chosen by the ring, and when a barer dies, it flies off to find the next suitable barer.
If king shark were to keep the ring and figure out how to control the powers he would probably be able to one shot Superman I am so mad that he had to get rid of the Ring

And I completely agree that this breaks the conventions of how a green lantern ring is supposed to operate when picking a host, following the death of its former one… Come on tell me that wasn’t cool! One of the few moments I felt legitimately hyped while watching one of the cutscenes in this game
1. The Ring would've immediately flown off to find a different host when its current host dies. We're just gonna walk past the question of "How does an item that functions off the willpower of its user work when that user's willpower is subsumed by the mind control of an evil alien?" Like, I don't even hate the idea of King Shark being a potential candidate for the Ring (on paper. this game did not earn it) but you still have to show it actually choosing him first. 2. The Ring would just resize itself to fit Shark's hand. If it can fit Kilowog, it can fit Nanaue. 3. Pretty sure you need to recite the Green Lantern oath *before* you get the suit and powers, someone feel free to correct me on that 4. Why does it make him go berserk or whatever they were going for here when the shark was about to eat the squad, including Shark? Tmk, that's never been a part of how the rings work. 5. Again, why did the ring just fall into the bay when they got it off? Also, why does it never come up again? If Shark is the new Lantern for that ring, not only should they have addressed that AT ANY POINT AFTER THIS SCENE, he should've been able to call it back to him. Idk, might've been useful fighting the interdimensional super villain or GODDAMN SUPERMAN, but what do I know

The so called self proclaimed all knowing “fans” who are claiming that the Green Lantern ring has always had a no kill policy clearly don’t know all because there are numerous times that policy has been broken in comics and other media (cartoons included). The rings can and have been altered in the past by various characters including the Green Lantern Batman who uses his own will to overpower the ring’s policy and make it kill in Dark Nights Metal. The game also clearly explains each hero was changed by Braniac’s process like with Superman being immune to green kryptonite. He obviously altered the ring like he altered the other heroes hence why it kills. Seems all the “true fans” clearly don’t know all about the expansive source material they claim to love.

Okay people are dissing on this game for the wrong reasons: Hate on this game because it's supposed to be connected to the Batman Arkham games, even though only idiots or special ed people believed what the writer said because you can clearly see how it's not. Take that connection away in this game is pretty solid and loads of fun, even if it seriously altered some things. However in the case of King Shark getting John's ring, remember the fine print with the Lanterns: Only people with a lot of willpower can have them.

It’s annoying for me because it’s an epic moment, the music, the delivery of the oath being so gritty and passionate as it should be just gives me goosebumps. It really would’ve fit as a grand finale to the end of the game Just sucks what they’ve done though
The scene(s) after Shark takes off the ring and the nuke is launched with Wonder Woman and Superman show how good this game's story could have been, how dark and depressing Brainiac's invasion could have been, but instead they squandered it for some "hahaha one liners" instead. Wasted potential

An easy change I would have made to this scene would be still having the construct shark smash the shield but have it be using every last bit of power remaining in the ring to do so.
And with no way to recharge it the ring would be useless and have no more bearing on the game.
Also have the option to pick which of the squad does this scene, like Harley makes a giant baseball bat, Deadshot makes a massive gun, and Boomerang making a Giant Boomerang.
To be fair, king shark is probably the most honourable of them all and he had good intentions for the ring not only that but the shark turning round to try eat them could be the ring's way of rejecting him

Wow just.. wow.. if the game wasn't bad enough they get wrong literally everything about Green Lantern and the Green Lantern rings.
For starters the ring can't just be put on. You have to chosen by a ring itself before you can even put it on. Which brings me to the second point.
When a Green Lantern dies the ring will leave them and search for a new person to wield it, sometimes traveling multiple galaxies to do so.
Last but least. You have to possess an incredibly powerful will to even have a small chance to be chosen. So King Shark almost instantly going mad from power in a few seconds he'd never have been chosen.
This doesn't work on so many levels that it's actually insulting. Cool visual I'll give them that much. But literally everything else about fails on multiple levels.
But if i remembered correctly, in the comic batman who laughs, the Bruce with the green lantern ring killed the thug who murdered his parents, forcing the ring to be broken and bent to his will. So maybe in this case, this game, green lantern after (probably) killing a lot of people, the ring is broken too, so some function like you said is not working probably, hench why King Shark is able to wield it

Because people are becoming wise that live service games, which is exactly what this is, are ass and designed around making you spend money over and over and over and over again. Whether it's for skins, new characters, new weapons. Whatever it is, they aren't good just boring cookie cutter, copy and paste fights done on repeat. Avengers was the same way and game was DOA even at the height of the MCU's popularity. The only thing that could save this game is because Rock steady made it and people will have Batman Arkham blinders on for a few days at best and then they'll drop it like a bad habit.

And for your information it’s an extremely basic artificial intelligence that guide the rings not control them. The ones doing the heavy lifting there are Mogo and the Ion entity.
Mogo’s morale compass has been referenced several times as the thing that determines who has met the necessary search parameters for the ring. Not an AI, and not even the guardians (who can override that decision, but almost never do).
Putting in .EXE.UniversalTranslator and .EXE.Don’tUseLethalForce functions is not the same as what you’re describing. 🙄

Honestly, even knowing how questionable the scene is in regards to Green Lantern lore… This is easily the most badass scene in the whole game.
Rocksteady had absolutely no idea how the green lanterns work do they. First of all the ring leaves the lantern on death. Second of all you can’t use the ring if it doesn’t see you ass worthy. And third and final gripe the ring doesn’t make you lose your mind and become murderous
Ignoring the fact that’s not how the ring works king shark looks pretty badass with that design I really hope they make it a costume in the future.

A Green Lantern power ring isn’t like finding a hammer or gun, where anyone can use it. Unless you have met the specific search parameters, and hear this message it’s even less useful than a normal piece of jewelry:
“[Insert Name] of [Insert your space sector]. You have the ability to overcome great fear. Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps.”
A green lantern ring also flies away when it’s bearer dies and then starts scanning for a replacement green lantern for that space sector.
It’s not going to stay put in one spot like that after the GL dies.
Even if it did, King Shark should’ve been teleported straight to OA, which is what happens when that new lantern is chosen.
Remember these people are space police, they still have to be trained on how to use it and when lethal force is justifiable. You don’t just give anyone who wants to be a cop a gun without passing tests and weapons training.

The obvious implication being that Brainiac somehow was able to corrupt the ring as well, which I'm not saying is great writing, but if the ring isn't behaving normally then its fair to assume there is something wrong with it. There are several other oddities with the ring including the fact that despite allowing King shark to use its power the ring doesn't resize to fit him even after forming his suit. Also King shark seems to be struggling to control the ring after his initial attack. King shark is much stronger physically than the rest of the squad but he doesn't really fight to keep the ring he just stands there with his arm out while the try to get the ring off and its not a lack of will power of imagination as his construct is clearly very solid and well defined, so its most likely an outside influence most likely Brainiac attempting to control him through the ring. Again I'm not saying its amazing writing or that it doesn't fly in the face of some Lantern core Lore, but what I am saying is it is still within the realm of Plausibility especially in the world of comics.

Alright, I'm not huge into DC Comics and when it comes to green lantern specifically, my main exposure comes from that animated Green lantern tv show that was on Cartoon network, the one where Hal and Killawog teamed up with a red lantern named Razor. That being said, I know its not possible just remove a Green lantern ring, I know that when a lantern dies, the ring finds a new owner within moments of its wearer dying, and that there is no way in hell, that King Shark, or this version of him could ever be a Green Lantern, or wield a Lantern ring

The writers at Rocksteady clearly don’t follow DC lore. You don’t just take the ring and put it on and suddenly you can wield the Emerald Light of Willpower. You have to be chosen by the ring, and when a barer dies, it flies off to find the next suitable barer.

I know there’s a lot of issues about whether or not this is possible. And I completely agree that this breaks the conventions of how a green lantern ring is supposed to operate when picking a host, following the death of its former one…

One of the few moments I felt legitimately hyped while watching one of the cutscenes in this game
1. The Ring would've immediately flown off to find a different host when its current host dies. We're just gonna walk past the question of "How does an item that functions off the willpower of its user work when that user's willpower is subsumed by the mind control of an evil alien?" Like, I don't even hate the idea of King Shark being a potential candidate for the Ring (on paper. this game did not earn it) but you still have to show it actually choosing him first.
2. The Ring would just resize itself to fit Shark's hand. If it can fit Kilowog, it can fit Nanaue.
3. Pretty sure you need to recite the Green Lantern oath *before* you get the suit and powers, someone feel free to correct me on that
4. Why does it make him go berserk or whatever they were going for here when the shark was about to eat the squad, including Shark? Tmk, that's never been a part of how the rings work.
5. Again, why did the ring just fall into the bay when they got it off? Also, why does it never come up again? If Shark is the new Lantern for that ring, not only should they have addressed that AT ANY POINT AFTER THIS SCENE, he should've been able to call it back to him. The so called self proclaimed all knowing “fans” who are claiming that the Green Lantern ring has always had a no kill policy clearly don’t know all because there are numerous times that policy has been broken in comics and other media (cartoons included). The rings can and have been altered in the past by various characters including the Green Lantern Batman who uses his own will to overpower the ring’s policy and make it kill in Dark Nights Metal. The game also clearly explains each hero was changed by Braniac’s process like with Superman being immune to green kryptonite. He obviously altered the ring like he altered the other heroes hence why it kills. Seems all the “true fans” clearly don’t know all about the expansive source material they claim to love.

Okay people are dissing on this game for the wrong reasons: Hate on this game because it's supposed to be connected to the Batman Arkham games, even though only idiots or special ed people believed what the writer said because you can clearly see how it's not. Take that connection away in this game is pretty solid and loads of fun, even if it seriously altered some things.
However in the case of King Shark getting John's ring, remember the fine print with the Lanterns: Only people with a lot of willpower can have them.
