  • The conversation around public charging tends to focus on it as an engineering problem. But for widespread adoption, we need to think about the human element. How do we design better charging sites and what can we learn from how EV drivers are using these plugs today? And what could the ultimate EV charging station of the future look like if we thought about this from the ground up? We'll look at these questions with the country's largest fuel retailer, Parkland Corporation, who will share what they've learned from their network of 50 EV charging stations across BC and Alberta. We'll also get the perspective of a long-time EV "super user". We'll start off, though, with a recap of the "Electric Fuelling Station of the Future" design competition winners. (For more information about this competition, visit evcharging.electricautonomy.c...)
    Speakers:
Ilana Weitzman, Vice President, Strategic Initiatives, Clean Transportation at Electric Autonomy (Moderator)
Scott Sharabura, Vice President, Electric Vehicle Charging at Parkland Corporation
Aniseh Sharifi, Co-Founder at Fierce Media
This panel session was recorded at the EV & Charging Expo on May 1, 2024, at the Enercare Centre in Toronto.

11:00 Never thought about that. You can smoke at a charger without the risk of blowing up the place. But as a former smoker, I can tell you I can't stand being around tobacco smoke anymore. Like, within 50 meters or more. Makes me physically ill. Charging at a public site could pose real problems for me. (It already is at bus stops. Smoking there is against the rules, but they're not enforced.)

If you drive over 200 mile round trip, Tesla superchargers are only network worth considering as there are many fast reliable and cheap chargers

Charging Stations faculties should have table tennis 🏓 games for activities waiting to charge.

This dude keeps saying over and over it only takes 5 minutes to recharge and you can socialize and how you can't do that at gas station.. It's not like nobody has ever had a chat with a buddy at a gas station.. nor do we need to socialize at a gas station we can socialize anywhere because we're not wanting hours for a charge..and the other lady is talking about bowling and the other one talking about lounging and restaurants😂 If it only takes 5 minutes to charge how are you gonna have time to go bowling? Ohh maybe cause it takes a lot longer than 5 minutes to charge Maybe that's why. Why do you have to think of all these activities to do if charging is so quick?.. 😂😂😂 These EV people are so delusional they're not even aware of themselves or reality all the hours of your Life you're gonna waste sitting at a charging station..Let me leave y'all to y'all's delusions lol.
