Cobra Commander is officially my favourite antagonist in the energon universe
Same!
Yeah but Megatron promises to be a real menace
@@Travelerfrom2024 Very true!
@@Travelerfrom2024How is he gonna do that? He's blind and doesn't KNOW where to go😂
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw Buddy, I think you don't know Megatron.
He'll find a way.
And when he'll be back...
Everyone shall fear the wrath of the mighty leader of the Decepticons
Dang cobra series seems legit I gotta check em out!
It's really good!
As a wise man once said:
"Oh yeah, it's all coming together..."
😂
This was such a great series, so much so…yeah I’m now a GI Joe fan.
Williamson, Kirkman, they got me.
Hell yeah! It's so rad that these new series are bringing new fans to the franchise!
I really didn't expect to like this series as much as I did, I really didn't want it to end
Same here, it was a total surprise how much I enjoyed it!
I didn't even notice the lack of action in the book and I read twice, I was just that captivated by the story being told. Cobra Commander's swaggering machismo is fun to see here. Love the bit on how Destro and Mercer noted the lasers, Cobra Commander is advancing technology to a point that even a state of the art arms dealer like Destro is shocked. Loved how Cobra Commander used the B.A.T.s like a butlers holding new set of clothes for him. Also I very interested on how Cobra-La progresses in the Energon Universe as their is so little material so Skybound can do almost anything with Cobra-La. Lord Golobulus is now see the ruin of recent decisions (letting Cobra Commander out and not killing Megatron) deciding to engage in a war of 2 fronts, historically stacking that's not a good idea. I wonder if Nemesis Enforcer could go toe to toe with a cybertronian opponent, Golobulus has the material to make anyone into what Nemesis Enforcer and we know the Proximus can give a cybertonian a hard time. will we see a rise of cyborgs in the Energon Universe?
Yeah, I wonder that, too! I could see it coming from either direction - maybe the Zertonians turn more of their warriors into cyborgs to compete with Cybertronians, or maybe Cobra Commander gets there first and starts making bionic troopers. Dude is wicked smart, so I could see it.
If there was one character I never thought i'd end up liking so much, it was Mercer, but goddamn they did it.
Also favourite panel of the issue was that bit where Destros mask was reflected in Cobra Commander's, like symbolically there's a certain blank slate to Cobra Commander that someone can project their own ambitions and fears onto and see it reflected back at them, like Destro can see his own power being increased through Cobra Commander. i just thought that was neat.
That's a good observation about that panel! I think you totally nailed it! It's a striking image, that's for sure. Amped up the Commander's creepiness factor for me considerably.
Man If you’d told me when this whole universe kicked off that jet fire emerging from a random asteroid as a cameo would eventually lead into…. Everything that we’re seeing today especially the cobra la going to cybertron thing. I would have thought you were screwing with me. I figured they’d keep the stories kinda separate, but they are sending it full tilt and I love them for that.
The 'Cobra-La seeking out Cybertron' idea has got me so pumped for the future!
@@Moonbase3my version of a Hasbro universe goes more like this I call it
Hasbroworld
Consist’s of:

Visionaries
Jem and the holograms
Crossovers (i’m gonna take notes from the Hasbro comic book universe crossovers)

What do you think?
This is a really great version of CC that blends the best parts of all of his previous versions from the cartoons, comics and movies.
COBRAAAAAAA
Totally agree
Thanks for identifying the Transformers. Joepedia updated.
No problem - did my best, anyway! :)
I noticed how Destro and Mercer were acting during the "tour" CC was giving them. While both were wary, Destro was willing to hear CC out, while Mercer was more outspoken about how creepy he found everything. I think, eventually, Cobra's going to go too far, and that's going to be the deciding factor for Mercer to defect to G.I. Joe.
Pythona going out into space to find Cybertron is how I think the Energon Universe is going to bring Void Rivals, and by extension the rest of the space-based characters, into contact with the Earth side of things.
I agree, I think Cobra is going to take things way too far for Mercer to put up with. And I think you're right about the Pythona/Void Rivals thing as well - cannot wait to see how that plays out!
Great minds think alike...
A complete reinvention of Cobra Commander, who for the majority of his appearances throughout the fiction has been so riddled with him being portrayed as an incompetent coward.
This Commander is one of the best depictions ever, the only other version thats been this good is maybe the Resolute version.
The comics have always portrayed Cobra Commander as a major threat and criminal genius
@@FlamesofJagger I respectfully disagree, this version has racked up a crazy body count of casualties. In the Marvel and IDW run the majority of his kill count came from a disobedient Saw Viper. I could be wrong tho lmk. Not that his kill count that makes him competent but it does show actual consequences to people who disobey/disagree with the commander
@ComicsyCafe yes, but you said he was portrayed as an incompetent coward. The only places that he has been portrayed as such is the cartoons. Body counts were not mentioned. Also, G.I.Joe Renegades Cobra Commander is portrayed as a competent commander but like the comics, his success is based on the people he surrounded himself with.
@@FlamesofJagger Okay I can see that, good point. It’s possible my perception of CC is mainly attributed to his Sunbow depiction. So I can be a bit biased in that regard. I think we can both agree tho, this CC is one of the best forsure
I’m gonna miss this title, but I’m sure we’ll see plenty of cobra commander in the Destro series and other Energon issues. Hopefully
Fingers crossed!
Cobra la going to space was the biggest surprise for me
I think they'll probably go to the sacred ring and miss cybertron considering a letter said gi joe and void rivals would cross over before the next transformers gi joe interaction
Oh nice, I forgot about that letter. Good to know!
Cobra-la are pre-eminent idiots, especially their leader Golobulus, who think they have a chance against the Transformers. I mean, they even have a chance against the Cybertronians, but if they try to go against the Autobots or Decepticons, they'll be in trouble. especially with this last one since Megatron will probably heal himself and then regain leadership of the Decepticons who are in greater numbers, Let's remember that Golobulus had the audacity to call Megatron "his property" and even ripped out his eye, Megatron probably has Golobulus on his revenge list.
Wow~ never thought to see a Cobra Commander origin in this year~ And it was a kick ass great one !!!
Thanks for another great review!
Thanks for watching and for the kind words! I appreciate it.
This issue reminds me a lot of the Cobra series from IDW Joe comics where Chuckles finally meets Cobra Commander. CC sends the entire issues showing him off the island talking about how he views society, trying to convert him
I dare to say that this one will be in my top 3 favorite minis of the year
It's got a good shot for me as well!
This whole mini-series was almost like reading Megatron Origins again.
What a high note to end the mini series on. Man I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us with GI Joe.
Same here!
Pythona is really going to Cybertron with a Portuguese man o' war? That's gonna be a long ride.
Haha, I learned something new today - I didn't know that it was modeled so closely on something from real life. Thanks!
Great Job again 👏🏾
Thank you - much appreciated!
To me this also felt like a conclusion to Duke, or more specifically like this wrapped up Williamson’s intro run on the Joe side of the EU, and I really enjoyed it. That Storm Shadow tease got me excited!
I agree, definitely seemed to wrap up parts of Duke in addition to resolving its own story.
They said cobra commanders story definitely doesn't end here so be sure to check out both Scarlett and destro mini series to find out. Also there's a big energon universe news hitting soon.(I'm so excited and pumped for what's to come I love this universe/the comics).
Heck yeah! I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!
The time skip between issue #4 and this one had me interested in what a reading order for those interested in the Joe books should be. I think I’d recommend reading all 5 issues of Duke first, then the first 4 issues of Cobra Commander, the FCBD special, and then the final issue of CC. And if they’re interested in the full Engeron Universe start with the first 6 issues of Void Rivals and then the first 6 issues of Transformers.
Good question! I think there's also a case to be made for Cobra Commander #1-4, Duke #1-5, FCBD, Cobra Commander #5 - but that being said, I think I have a preference for the order you listed.
Moonbase, thank you again for a great overview of this mini series. Watching the Comander give birth to the Cobra organization is chilling. The pyramid scheme, the brain washing, the religious community side of gathering the Cobra community, fantastic. Cobra seems like a true world threat. Great book. Great information, thank you.
Thank you for the kind words! Yeah, this book is a great read, they really hit all the right notes with the Commander and Cobra as an organization.
What a fantastic ending.
Minor note, since Mercer is known for being the Joe's residential bad guy turncoat character I think we might be getting the seeds of his defection in this issue. If you noticed he's totally not on board with allying with Cobra Commander but Destro overrules him. So it's very possible that Mercer will eventually turn on Destroy due to his partnership with Cobra.
Also, I guess Pythonia going into space is how we're gonna connect the G.I. Joe stuff into Void Rivals. Make sense.
That's a great thought about Mercer! Thinking about it now, I think you're totally right and that Cobra is going to wind up being way worse than what Mercer signed up for with MARS.
Gran video como siempre 🤩🤗😎! Impresionante que la biotecnología de Cobra La les permite viajar a otros planetas
Thanks! 😎 And yeah, that was a surprise, but I suppose it works with the idea of their civilization being super advanced!
@@Moonbase3 I appreciate your thanks🤩🤗😎!
While we got a rote and expected conclusion to the series, they delivered some bangers in there - most notably Storm Shadiow and Golobulus' reaction to Cybertron. Them having Megatron there is a mystery in and of itself that doesn't just go away now that he's on the loose. Further, it begs the question of who Cobra Commander is once more, since we know he's not of Cobra-La.
The Cobra-La stuff was a real highlight. I would certainly like more info on how they found/captured Megatron!
I look at this issue as the sales pitch/ vague threat. Cobra La is going to get such s shock that the rest of the Universe is a balancing act between organics and cybernetics
I can't wait to see where the Cobra-La stuff is going to go!
Cobra-La is in war with Cybertron?
Yes. Rather, it will be soon
I start to worry for Destro. Ok he's a big fish, but this Commander is really something else. He is way too dangerous for Destro to turn his back on him. And dr. László? First Skuxxoid and now him. I really like, how the they just pull out random, one episode caracters form the old cartoons. It really shows how the writers really did a deep dig into the history of this two brand's history.
Oh i wish al the Energon Universe comics would be avaible in Hungarian. I would buy them on the spot.
There is a time jump, but remember that Destro is just dealing with the BAT that Duke destroyed in his series.
Definitely. I maybe didn't phrase it correctly, but I meant that there's a jump between issue 4 and 5 of CC that puts #5 in the aftermath of Duke 5.
The only thing that gets me is that Pythona says it's only been days... no way Cobra Commander did all this in a week or two
@@FlamesofJagger Nice catch! I didn't clock that. The wording "many days" is vague, but still specific enough to make Cobra Commander's accomplishments seem more unlikely for that timeframe. Unless the Cobra-La segment jumps back in time closer to the end of #4...but maybe that's overcomplicating things.
@@FlamesofJaggeryou never know. Time can flow quite fast in comics
Gi joe is so underrated.
It's good stuff!
COBRAAAAA-
not gonna lie, i kinda hope the MASS Device ends up being a footnote and they go with something different as it was also the big mcguffin of the first IDW ongoing as well and it seems like these books want to start from a place of samiliarism before immediately going in different directions.
sidenote/idea: if you wanted to do something funny/interesting for when the enevitible Energon Universe Transformers/GI Joe book happens you could do a review of the old (and insane) Devil's Due crossover books
I hear ya about the MASS Device, it does seem like it's been done before. Though I suspect that the crystals used in the cartoon could be energon in this series, so that's kind of fun.
What if the jetpack dude is Solstar knight Rom?
That would be wild!
There is only ONE cobra commander....and that is Baron Ironblood
😂
@@Moonbase3 do yo know who Baron Ironblood is?
I do - I had a commenter give me a brief primer on the UK continuity a little while back!
Sorry man but I liked Duke mini better cus it was like a 80s action flick right my ally. This was ehhh okay. I liked but not enough to for my to put it in my longbox. I really hope Williamson is the writer for the eventual Joe team book.
No apologies necessary, man! Duke was awesome, so I can't fault you for preferring that one.
Cobra are like the modern day neo nazis in the Hasbro/Energon Universe.
My theory is that both Cobra la, cybertron, void rival are going to meet each other
The prospect is completely compelling to see
I can't wait to see it happen!
Hopefully this will be more effective than Marvel's Cinematic universe.
