I like the use of Jinx as Scarlett’s connection to the ninja side of the brand instead of just right away going with Snake Eyes.
It's definitely a different spin on what you'd usually expect.
Back in Cobra Commander #3 it's stated that Zartan is on a mission and most continuities, Zartan is the one to kill the Hard Master. So combine this along with the Storm Shadow's cameo at the end of Cobra Commander #5 and I can definitely see Zartan making his entrances to the Energon Universe. As far as the comics chronological placement in the Energon Universe I could see this taking places just before Duke #1 6 months time jump, Stalker wouldn't be hunting Duke at the time. The Arashikage's weapons, given the universe their are and the mass of snow in the area maybe the Arashikage found Megatron but they may have just found another reservoir of Energon. I wonder what intel on the Arashikage Cobra Commander has?
Agreed and I assume there's gonna be a time jump n Scarlett mini series aswell to match up with Dukes timeline cuz no telling how long scarlett will be undercover n the arashikage clan(or I could be wrong).
I tought the same, but i'm wonder who hired Zartan to kill the Hard Master, because CC wasn't a leader yet, when he was already on his mission.
@@zoltanperei4789 good question, considering how Skybound brought in Cobra-La maybe Skybound could bring in Iron Claw(G. I. Joe Extreme)or Baron Ironblood(Marvel UK)
@@zoltanperei4789 It could be a surprising addition like Mr.End-game mentioned, or it could be Tomax and Xamot - we haven't seen what they're up to yet, and I know they'll factor more directly into Destro, but they might be cooking up a few things. Maybe they want to steal whatever the weapon is.
Regardless, I really like this theory that Zartan is also undercover in the Arashikage Clan plotting an assassination...!
Also, the theory about the Arashikage finding Megatron is an intriguing one. I remember a panel where Scarlett drew her sword on Megatron in the Marvel story after Megs was rebuilt by Cobra and he abducted Dr. Biggles-Jones. And Scarlett was undercover as a defector at the time as well...hmm, potential parallels incoming!?
I like Storm Shadow as an ally, but mostly due to his character arc. It would be cool to see that more fleshed out. Kinda like a Vegeta (from DBZ) or Zuko (from ATLA) role. Just my take
I'm wondering how faithfully they'll stick to his established history or if they'll try something new... I'm up for either, honestly, as long as his character and arc is interesting and -like you said - fleshed out.

NOW THIS IS THE STUFF I LOVE! NINJAS! the main reason I like GI Joe! Storm Shadow EU debut looks awesome! I'm hoping after Scarlett and Destro wraps up we get Snake and Storm minis! Also hoping we get to see Snake with Scarlett in the next few issues 🤞🏻
I like the ninja component as well - I'm very interested in seeing what they do with Storm Shadow in this series...
A very dialogue heavy issue. But I think the setup is necessary to help paint a better picture of the situation. Plus seeing Storm Shadow at the end was a good way to end the issue.
I'm expecting the action to pick up considerably from here...but I guess we'll see.

I like G.I. Joe but was never fully into it. That being said, and this might be biased, but the Energon Universe has sold me on this depiction by simply building up the team/world which we've seen before but this continuity is shaking things up for the better. Also, the panel with Scarlett rising from the water with Monaco above her felt straight out of a movie

I thought it was pretty good. It's not Duke or Cobra Commander, completely different in tone and type of action, but that's not bad - they should be able to tell different types of stories within the same universe.
As far as ninja in GI Joe, well, that goes back to 83 (issue 10 ARAH), so it's just part of it as far as I'm concerned. Because of vestigal ties to Snake Eyes I am hoping for HIS debut to be something on the lines of Proximus over in VR -whenever we finally get to see him in this version. But I digress. Scarlett #1 did not disappoint!
Good point. I mostly ask because I've seen people comment about not being as into that aspect, though that might be due to how Ninja-centric it became with Ninja Force.
And I think you're onto something with Snake Eyes' entrance being like Proximus - that's definitely the kind of game changing impact they should go for!
As with all these Joe series, I was pleasantly surprised by this! To be honest, I was dreading this series the most since I’m generally bored to tears by espionage stories and I don’t really care about ninjas outside of being cannon fodder for Daredevil and Wolverine (never Batman, League of Assassins you best stay in the 70s if you don’t want these hands). But even with that and my general well established lack of knowledge of GI Joe, I still liked it! We see Scarlett established as a badass fighter, but not invincible when Storm Shadow bashes the back of her head. I like that, both in Duke and here. Makes the stakes feel more real. Anyhow great video MB3!
Thanks, man! So far, this is another solid entry. I agree about both Duke and Scarlett being badasses - but not unstoppably so. It's a fine line, and so far they're riding it well, in my opinion.

Haha I knew as soon as I was done trying to decipher that splash page that you’d come in with a solid analysis. Totally with you on it being a very weird take on this style of imagery, but I think you nailed it in your breakdown.

Those halftone patterns look like actual physical Zip-a-tone. I imagine they were probably done digitally, but they look like the real thing. And I’m pretty sure the ninja fight panel is meant to be circular. It flows counterclockwise and can be started at any point in the action, returning to that starting point to repeat. It’s a stylized way of showing that she’s fighting a whole lot of ninjas with a great deal of grace and flow.
I wasn't aware of Zip-a-tone, so that's cool to know. Thanks! I always wondered how those tones were done before the shift to digital. And I dig your read on the ninja fight - the idea of it being circular and repeating is an interesting one!
This feels like the odd one out of all the Energon Universe titles so far. It's the only one so far to have no direct connections to Transformers.
Which makes me curious if they're setting up for a big reveal or if they're getting more confident in telling non-Transformers stories in the setting.

Yeah, I'm wondering about that as well. I've got my eye on this weapon that the Arashikage have, though. There was a comment by Mr.End-game suggesting that maybe the Arashikage found Megatron, which is a possibility. Whatever the case, I feel like the weapon probably has some kind of tie to Cybertronians or energon...but maybe this will be the first series to be self-contained to the Joe universe!?
A series based on Stalker, Dusty, Lowlight or Snowjob would be great. Zartan, The Twins, Wild Weasel or a group of Vipers would be a good story to.
I'd be down for any of those ideas!

@@Moonbase3Yeah Roadblock is cool. I just picked those characters because it hasn’t been many deep dives into them. Lowlight with the Nightmares in the cartoon & in the comics Dusty & Mainframe went on a mission together. It’s just so much to draw from to create a universe for the Joes, I don’t how the movies constantly screw it up.
If it's after Duke, it could well be Hawk's second team with Flint and Lady Jaye
That's definitely a possibility. I assumed that Stalker was on Duke's team, but maybe he's not. Or maybe he works with both?
The. best and worse thing the Energon Universe has done to me is make me interested in the GI Joe brand

Wherever you find Scarlett, Storm Shadow, or Clan Arashikage, occasionally Stalker, you'll likely find Snake Eyes
I'm very curious to see if this is the series where they introduce Snake Eyes or not...
I wouldn't be surprise if they decide to go the route of making jinx the female snake eyes(which I would be fine with unless they introduce dawn moreno)and we won't be getting the male snake eyes n the energon universe continuity. There's also probably gonna be a romance between Scarlett and jinx but I could wrong on both.
Those would be surprising twists on both counts!
Or Scarlett the female snake eyes and they probably will set up that Riverly between her and storm shadow(he might cut her vocal cords).which again i will be fine with that.

Great Video as always! My guess is that the other Enforcer flanking The Hard Master is T'Jbang. He seems physically similar, and he says no words, which fits with the RAH version of the character taking a vow of silence.
I thought it was Snake Eyes; need to brush up on my GI Joe lore 😎

Felt the same confusion with the ninja fight scene. Also the “chickens with their heads cut off “ line seems super cliche and lacks creativity. And the ninjas here seem really weak, Scarlett barely breaks a sweat. Otherwise a solid issue and looking forward to more. Tall order to match the quality of Duke and CC. Still Energon U is the best thing going right now.
Williamson will be a tough act to follow for sure, but I'm hoping for the best!
I always prefer Storm Shadow staying as a pure villain.
Also obvious Scarlett/Jinx shipping incoming.
You never know, that's the interpretation Skybound might go with, especially since they've been drawing inspiration so heavily from the Sunbow iterations of TF and G.I. Joe!
