    Cobra’s less of a terrorist organization. It’s more of a fictional iteration of an old adage by Voltaire: “While most states have an army, Prussia’s army has a state.”.

    Not to Bad ... You skipped a few thymes like the Cabal of Space Aliens .. the Transformers cross over .. The geneticists work of Dr. Mindbender making human/ animal Hybrids, as well as a few splinter characters the Over lord, C.L.A.W. , Gristle whom took over for Cobra after the Headman. . And the A.I. Overkill ..

    I loved the Marvel story GI Joe founded by 4 Vietnam vets including Flint and Snake eyes and even originally Storm Shadow who later joined Cobra a domestic terrorist organization founded by a failed car salesman Cobra Commander. Issue 50 the battle of Springfield a classic!

    Really enjoyed watching this.. Great video. I love that there is so many iterations of GI Joe and Action Force..and that you can dip in and out and find the 'Joe' that intrigues you the most. I love the artwork of the Action Force but then i'm a little biased being from England.. Thanks for sharing!!

    The Renegades version of Cobra is particular favorite of mine because it's a effective reimagining of the classic villains since the terrorist angle has become a much more real thing in recent decades so the evil corporation angle is a more acceptable in modern times.

    Didn't mention Major Blood, or Firefly in your character list.
    I"ve been trying to figure out what has been happening with GI Joe comics sense it's first reboot after the Marvel run. It's about as messy as Gundam. Way to many continuities, and ideas being thrown around.

    There are plans for a new feature movie in the franchise after the one about *Snake Eyes* .
    It's supposed to be called *_``G.I. Jᴏᴇ : Eᴠᴇʀ Vɪɢɪʟʟᴀɴᴛ´´_* .

    What was the motivation behind a cobras soldiers recruitment ? How much was their pay ? And what did cobra promise them if they succeeded?

    • @MacDowin
      @MacDowin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never found anything about specific pay. Its possible the motivation is simply what motivates anyone to join a gang. A sense of belonging. A low self-concept that is boosted by a sense of worth to a greater group.
      Cobra is known to use a lot of psychological tactics and I wouldn't put it past them to use that on their own troops. Suck them in with an offer that is too good to refuse and then twist it on them to a point where they can't leave.
      Now Destro ran his group different. The Iron Grenadiers loyalty is out of sheer greed. The more money Destro makes the more money his troops make as they are all in a profit sharing system.

    • @MacDowin

    You know I've been thinking you know what would've made a good alternate code name for cobra commander. This would be so appropriate since he's the leader and probably so egotistical he thinks of himself this way. King Cobra. If anyone thinks this would be a great code name for him please share.

    The whole Cobra La thing back in 87 was a bad abortion. It totally didn’t make any sense to those whom read the comics. I’m glad Larry Hama had nothing to do with it and criticized it every chance.

    • @MacDowin
      @MacDowin  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t mind Cobra-La as much as some people, but I do agree that I am happy Larry kept his distance from it for the comic. He did write a comic issue for a comic figure 2-pack that featured Nemesis Immortal. It has been awhile and I don’t remember if Cobra-La was mentioned.

    That whole Cobra LAA bit in the movie was lame. Was glad they brought back the cartoon in 1989 and again in the early 1990s. Dr Mindbender was out by then along with Cobra LAA. Then luckily Baroness and Major Blood realized Cobra Commander was a better leader than Serpentor and they brought the Commander back. Was glad they got rid of Serpentor.

    • @MrKersey
      @MrKersey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I consider the whole 1987 G.I. Joe Movie as one strange bad dream. But those who were trully guilty for the awful story and characters were the big shots behind Marvel, who were afraid to show another death (Duke), after death of Optimus Prime 1986, which was not so well received by younger audience. Comics had better, more plausible stories, while animated series were watered down and parodied the Cobra to oblivion.

  • @DisobedientSpaceWhale
