9 arch bridge was made by a local mason. The ground beneath is muddy not a solid ground and because of WW2 no iron to be found to build the bridge. And the colonials faced a huge problem. and a local mason told them that he would build the bridge by bricks. From a near by brick maker. And the colonials laughed to his face saying it s impossible and the bridge will collapse. But they had nothing to loose so they allowed him. And he built the bridge praceizely without any fancy equipments. And still the colonials weren't sure. So he told them to run the train while he layed down under the bridge. And the colonials watched all this from safe distance. And the bridge is still standing. It's an engineering marvel. That's why it's important. Not just for the views. Same goes to Sigiriya. 90% of the tourists have no idea why they go there and what to look for. I feel sorry for them paying 30 bucks for a view point. There 1000nds of them all around Sri Lanka for free. Do a bit of background search. It makes the tour more fun. Welcome to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰🇱🇰❤️❤️❤️
Hey, we agree it's interesting to have background info for each sight and read upon the historic relevance of each place, but it's also just not possible to go in depth everywhere. We just want to give an overview of our tour through Sri Lanka and the things we saw. And it's still fun & interesting to go to places like Sigiriya and feel the history just looking at it. You marvel at the architecture, inspect the fine details in the rock, read when & for what reason it was built etc. I don't think tourists ever just take it as a viewpoint, but they also don't need to know about every specific boulder and their purpose 😁
