well said, but I do hate people who praise the modern games as God's gift to gaming(the old WWII based ones like 3 are cool) and I very much dislike uninformed parents buying these games for immature little kids, but I personally know a 8 year old and his 6 year old brother who are extremely mature when playing this game. A friend of mine for years now talked about making his own shooter and he had a good idea.
If you are a camper, a tent and a campfire spawns around you like really visibly.
I think that is a good idea.
But the only one in a match whom i`d allow to stay hidden and wait it out is a sniper.
Since if it is a simulator like thing, snipers don`t go running around noscoping.

I remember growing up playing Call of Duty, and I would always get on, and I would get dominated. I didn't realize it at the time, but since I didn't "camp", and "Quick-scope", I got obliterated. I have no idea why I once liked this series, but I'm relieved to say, that I gave up on that series a while ago.

I played CoD at a friends house to see why its good... but when I filled days over days of MANY CoD renditions, I tell my friend " Whelp, if you like this franchise, thats on you." But this isn't my cup of tea. I prefer a game of surreal (quirky like) games. And this demographic is just so big that nobody wants other styles. I won't say its CoD's fault, but many companies are gunning for that demographic that innovation, creativity, originality are left in the abyss. I just hope this franchise dies down for the return of the gaming industry's niche like attitude it had before the this generation.

BF3 put me to sleep, and after MOH left WW2, it sucked ever since.

I find COD to be fun to play, but it has gotten significantly less so over the years for me for pretty much one reason; all the new CODs seem like nothing more than remakes. With each new addition to the already massive family of sequels, the only things that are ever changed are the characters, weapons, and maps. The story line always has something to do with a single soldier or group of soldiers taking on some terrorist group with some stupid cliche plot. The weapons are basically revised versions of their counterparts from the previous installment, the perks almost never change, and the main character is always essentially the same person with a different name. Call of Duty has failed to bring anything genuinely original to the playing field these last couple of years, and because of that I have stopped playing those games. I truly hope they make at least one sad attempt at creating something new and original, but the odds of that are lower than apple bottom jeans and the boots with the fur.
Played Cod on Xbox, then switched to Battlefield, now on PC, I'm all about Arma 3 playing in a military sim community. Started from the bottom, now i'm here haha ;)

I know this is old but anyway: I have grown up with CoD, playing CoD 1, 2, 3, 4, WaW, MW3, BO2 and AW, and I had a brief experience with BO1 and I never have played it online, if I play Multiplayer I always play Local, and that's how my friend I got the most out of it, the Campaign is ALWAYS great and the Multiplayer is good and if someone is camping we can see him so we never camp and when you play CoD like this I guarantee that you'll love it, for me it's a great series and if people quit playing online only every year they would love this franchise! just like I do.

CoD isn't bad, it's just average. It's your generic military shooter with a mediocre campaign and decent multiplayer. It's too easy and there is no innovation. Battlefield and Halo offer so much more as far a innovation and value.

I remember when cod used to have good multiplayer. Nobody camped even though everybody in planes or tanks may be considered camping. Besides that nobody abused glitches, nobody abused corners or items, but when people started doing that I just couldn't believe it. I literally stopped playing the series mainly because of the constant camping moments.
They sucked from the beginning. This game is exactly why gaming practically means anything anymore. All this game draws is annoying grown men and 12 year old nerds raging and getting triggered after getting killed more than five times. People like this don't know that other GOOD games like Wolfenstein or DooM came first, and yes they do compare. Now, I generally suck at Call of Duty, but being good at it is the most serious thing to these fucking players.
When i heard you talk about the newbs, it made me think if they were plopped in a game of COD4 on pc, they would be pulverized, seriously, there are people who trained themselves to do the entire match scoped, or have taken years of dedication and training to literally run blindly into the battle field and quickscope everyone the second they get within their sights. It was REALLY FUN being a newb.
do you ever look at the map -_- "turned on advanced uav" there was a guy right around the corner that showed up 3 times and you ran right past him... thats so fucking stupid, I hate people who dont fucking look at the maps, so wonder you get killed by campers, campers are my favorite because even if they kill me I could throw down a grenade where he was and boom, hes gone, the max kills he will get is 4-5, but you have the chance to see where everyone is and your not using it, cod is fun, yes ALOT of times people are assholes on the game but really... your over exaggerating on how it sucks, and your never going to play just because "the maps are messed up" well in battle field the whole game is messed up (EA is now getting sued because of that), and in arma its for pc with mods/etc and its basically a whole another genre, so what other game do you have left to play?

Well, I think you should check those bushes and platforms and corners. I think that while some deaths ARE cheap, people hiding in bushes and sniping isnt really cheating. Why should anyone stand in the open and let you shoot them?

I prefer Day of Infamy because its similar, from NWI (makers of Insurgency) and it's a fairly new game. still hard to get into, but there is a growing community not an older and seasoned one. anyone whos seasoned is from Insurgency which has a pretty good, helpful community. there are always nuts but most people are actually very friendly
Something about online gaming brings out the worst in humanity. Some mature players handle victory and defeat with grace and dignity. Then there is the troll that hacks, exploits, rages and curses every generation of your family in a attempt to ruin your gaming experience. The generic games being churned out by so many companies these days just hurts to think about and does not help this epidemic.
If you want a shooter where skill is how you survive, the newest addition of counter strike(GO) is the best. You HAVE to flank, throw flashes,
actually, I also have cod, bf, and halo. I have found that in cod a "lone wolf" attitude is typical. Battlefield (PC version) has a greater element of teamwork and, yes, strategy. By strategy I mean working to take spawn points, coordinating classes for optimal results (in bad company 2, make a ratio of medics to assault) and halo has a teamwork factor that i honestly cant describe, it just works. Although each game has its kinks, battlefield 3 still has quite a fun atmosphere to it.
Holding an area is not camping, sitting in a corner motionless is camping.
If people paid money to play a game, if it isn't patched and it can be used to your advantage, I really don't see the shame of playing how you want to play. Camping isn't cheating. Not everyone wants to run around making themselves an easy target. If camping is ruining your run and gun strategy, adapt and overcome. Make them not want to ever camp when you're in the lobby.

You don't HAVE to stop playing CoD, but if you don't enjoy the game and just want to bitch about it, then stop playing! No one's forcing you to not enjoy a game.
This is why I prefer dedicated servers, if you play on the same server with the same people with good admins and nice players, camping and BS 'tactics' will be much rarer. I do this in games like Battlefield Bad company 2 and basically all dedicated server games. Just add one to your favorites and play there!

This is one reason why Battlefield is so much better. It's made like a real military BATTLEFIELD. There are vehicles,and huge,huge,maps,and destructible buildings.Players ARE balanced. There are very small,small,advantages.Those are guns. People might have a gun a little better than yours,but that's it. There are SOME campers,and a lot of snipers,because sniping on Battlefield is fun and realistic(COD's isn't realistic)but there are also a lot of players in the air,driving boats in water,or charging straight in on the ground, or maybe sneaking,too.

Bo3 is in no way balanced but there is slightly less camping spots in maps than in previous games but that is ruined by the killstreaks being way too op

The first reason that comes to mind is the fact that 1 out of 10 bullets register, which completely hampered the experience since its a "shooter" so you'd think the "shooting" would be a loooot more effective, I did like the dismemberment though
People are gonna camp in every game, there's always going to be some place to hide. COD is full of little kids who don't know how to play right so they camp the whole time to rack up kills. The only way to stop this problem is to just stop playing the game. Plain and simple.

The most saddest thing over all is the fact that COD uses an engine from 2003 and yet the latest CODs are still using a dated engine (id Tech 3 to be exact) and if you go to google images, you can find proof that the developers recycle stuff from the previous games. Sad, sad, sad.
In Metroid Prime Hunters, there was a system to prevent camping. Over some time, if someone is consistently camping or staying in one place, the game notifies others that there is a "Coward Detected" and on the bottom screen it would point out the camper. Of course, it's only a 4 player game, so it'd be easier to track vs 16 or more in CoD. Even then, that would be a neat feature. Heck, it could work on WiiU as the bottom screen can have a bigger map and will detect campers and notify you.
I think they should get rid of both kill streaks and death streaks. I mean the idea is stupid. If a dude is really good and he just keeps killing you (or the other players on your team), once he gets enough kills, he'll have a kill streak and odds are, you'll just keep dying and dying.

I kinda disagree here, and I'm smiling at the fact that you laud F.E.A.R. for its realistic combat AI behavior. Because your critique with COD seems to at least to a degree go against your view there. It's called "Modern Warfare" and the multiplay gameplay footage I see is a freakin joke. It's worthy of TF2 or other games that don't take themselves very seriously, but camping is actually a realistic combat tactic. Maps that have nooks and hideouts everywhere are realistic and soldiers will make use of the terrain, and that makes it a more complex experience. A game with a setting like that should be respected by being played according to it. It shouldn't be arcade game style, because there are more arcade style games for that.
You complain about people using the same camping spots all the time and getting their kill streaks, but you have the solution right there in what you said: They are using KNOWN spots and their success makes them increasingly inflexible. Approach this like a real soldier and smoke them out. This approach will train team and tactical skills. What I see is just random hectic mayhem, with dying seemingly having no negative consequences whatsoever, thus making everybody just run around like a headless chicken with a gun. In a game with a serious modern warfare setting.
Once you actually play these games like a soldier, it becomes freakin' awesome! Even more so if others do the same, but if not, they will be the ones dissing you for being a camper. Well, they either adjust, or they lose again and again. It's all about being smart and adjusting, in-game and meta-game, because it also means changing over to another game that you actually like.
I had an experience like what I'm talking about many years ago and am still remembering it fondly: A guy in a queued 1-on-1 duel arena was using nothing but the most powerful lightsaber attack. He touches you with the thing and you're dead. He won every match. Frustrating as hell. Until I stopped feeling like a victim and owned that sucker by repeatedly using feint attacks and the weakest but quickest lightsaber move. I could wear him down to death with that; he was too inflexible to adapt, too sure of his superior/lazy tactic. And this ONE kill of mine made the whole queue cheer like it was a World Cup victory or something. For a minute or two I was a hero. Because I manned up and didn't call for better balance or fairer gameplay or for the guy to play 'properly', with everybody's enjoyment in mind. This was the absolute best of meta-gaming, because it was an actual dramatic struggle against seemingly uneven odds in an unfair world. That guy was a villain. (He even had chosen red as his light saber color.) It was a valuable life-experience. Gained in a computer-game. That game was balanced after all. I was just too inflexible to realize the path to success at first.
The winner is the one who learns to adapt first. (This is also why unpredictability alone can get you half-way to victory. Your mainstream gamer opponents are very much stuck in a rut.)
I could even imagine that some of my later habits like playing UT2004 Instagib with crosshair disabled stemmed from that experience. If I'm winning all the time, then I need to find a greater challenge or I'm not gaining anything useful in real-life. Constant easy success invites inflexibility and paves a future downfall.

People enjoy different things, and not everybody enjoys the same games, so naturally trying to make everybody enjoy the game is not a good choice when there are people who clearly just want it tweaked for their personal convenience. You can't please everybody.
Only speak for yourself regarding real life connections in video game play and conquering your shortcomings. Your view disregards a lot that is going on in the online gaming experience and devalues the whole thing and the people playing it. Exactly because many people think different rules apply just because their actions are performed in a virtual world, like it's not really them as a person there, they think stuff is supposed to be handed to them on a silver platter.
You debase your own argument when you state that there is no risk of physical harm in a game, because then the lack of a 'great equalizer' in the ruleset doesn't have any urgency. There is no threat of bodily harm.
Games, as nature intended, are a means for practicing real life skills in a safe environment, but if people can't even handle CoD campers, how are they supposed to get anywhere in the non-virtual world?
Most of the drama in MMO games comes from people not willing to acquire life skills because they think a game is just for wasting away time and other players are there for your personal pleasure. But luckily there are people who ARE learning from those experiences. They're usually the ones writing blog or forum postings about what they've learned.
The more you appreciate an experience, the more you can take away from it.
There's a reason for the disclaimer regarding the online experience of a game. Because people are not program code that the devs can tweak any way they want.

These things are meant to balance for skill. In games, something that is more difficult to execute, (running and gunning in this case) cannot be stronger than something easier (camping). It allows a player with less experience to have some chance against a veteran.This is also why there's noob tubes, rpgs, death streaks, etc.. to try and give those new players a sense of power until they learn new, better tactics. the channel Extra Credits explains way better than i can /watch?v=EitZRLt2G3w

It's just a Quake III mod they release every year, only difference is guns, maps etc. COD4 was good in 2007, but every sequel has been the same game with a new coat of paint.
Im not gonna lie CoD 4 required actual skill (not on the consoles because of aim assist)
every gun had serious recoil which required time to master. It was so damn good and if any modern CoD player tried it they would just get smashed.
mw2 was the most camper proof maps in the CoD series because anywhere you camp there is a way to kill easily even if you have a mounted gun to protect yourself
I personally respect SeaNanners, Hutch, BlameTruth and other commentators. But there is no denying that they all camp. When you're watching their videos and they say "So I just chuck a claymore here and I patrol around this area a bit." That's a fancy way of saying: "I put my claymore in front of the only entrance and camp my ass off.

To be honest I've never really had this problem with this game.. I mean, I rush, I like SMG's, that's what I do, and never have I encountered shit like this to such a level of severity. Certainly I get frustrated, but that's all games. Thing is, if you know someone is camping somewhere, think past that, and how you can flank them, catch them off guard.
ppl complain about camping Cuz they can't counter. not defending campers, but once there's a strategy (yes, strategy. you're utilizing a map for ur advantage, regardless of technique, it's a strategy) that's difficult to combat, everyone uproariously condemns it. nobody likes losing, granted, but either find a proper counter to their solution, study maps more, or get better. next problem

When I first played CoD MW3, growing up with SOCOM CA, FTB2/3, and Tactical Strike, I felt like it was built for ADHD kids who drank too much Monster while their parents were out of town. The constant medals, annoying riffs, overly dramatic rank ups, and the complete lack of select fire capability was just overwhelming. The lack of attachment slots compared to SOCOM games only served to increase my annoyance and the perks killed it for me. I know CoD isn't and shouldn't be SOCOM but come on.
I just stick with Zombies... I'm a massive Solo-Player, and can play ZOMBS for 3-5 Hours on the trot, but then play about 4-5 10 Minute Multiplayer Games
Trust me, I've grown up with CoD, and I was playing CoD 2 on the PS2 at 5 years-old (I'm now 17) and this game fucks me off more than enough!

the best example of them not caring, is the wii version of this game. it started out with people buying it and supported it then when the hackers came and people stopped buying it they just stopped supporting it.

I don't play CoD much, I prefer battlefield, but when i do play it i don't usually don't have problems with campers.
Definitely agree with you with the contrast with COD you made with F.E.A.R., RT-USA.I played both quite a bit a few years ago and, compared to the wooden and near-soulless "shooting galleries" COD seemed to have evolved into (at least from the perspective of their AI), F.E.A.R.'s real-time AI was ... well, intelligent!
I know you were merely using FEAR to prove a point and I'm sure other games could also make this claim, but if I were to cite an example of a single-player FPS that has excellent gun-play and an actually intelligent AI opponent, I'd look no further for my demonstrator then First Encounter Assault Recon!
