How To Cut Watermelon - A simple yet brilliant technique

- The first time I saw this technique it stopped me in my tracks because it was such a great way to end up with a bowl of watermelon. To those making comments about mess, when not doing this on video it's advisable to flip the board at the sink, obviously.

That's a really cute way to serve watermelon! I was just looking for these videos because I brought home a watermelon and realized I've never cut one by myself before.. at age 24 haha.

Cut it just like you did, but leave the rind on. Gives you a handle in which to hold on to it.

If it's a party, I'd stick a plastic fork or wooden skewer in each chunk to keep hands and fingers out of the shared bowl.

Jennifer! It's 2018 and I just did your technique for cutting a watermelon. It so easy, I was laughing in my kitchen and doing a happy dance. I've always avoided buying a watermelon for home because of the insane amount of juice that goes everywhere.
This took me about 4 minutes and only about 1 Tablespoon of juice on the counter! Ha!

I like your tips about cutting the melon in half first and the way you fit it into the bowl. It is fast, efficient and reduces waste. I have used a similar method for years. But I slice both ends off first, turn the melon on end, peel it whole, then slice. It is also a great way to prep oranges, grapefruit, apples, etc. Thank you for sharing this.

Now that's a nice way of cutting a watermelon. I have to try this method. Who cares about the mess when you've only got one thing on your mind, and that's to hurry it up and scoff it before anyone comes home!

Thanks! It certainly can for peeling, however be careful cutting the second time (to make the squares) as there's no support in the centre (assuming the seeds have been scooped out first) so the middle pieces are arches instead of half rounds and can fall once the side support is cut :)

Thanks for the info! I like the idea of putting it in the bowl to serve watermelon sticks. One tip I can give is that I put my cutting board inside a large jelly roll pan/cookie sheet. It keeps the juice off the counter making clean up super easy!
Great tip to put it in a pan with edges, thanks! On the other hand people here complain about finding a bowl to fit over the watermelon (almost any bowl works, really) can you imagine if they had to find a pan to fit their cutting board too - horrors ;D ~ JJ
Jennifer Jenner people will always find something to complain about, right? I have a smaller cutting board that fits right in my big jelly roll pan. My regular cutting board doesn't fit in it, either, but for a few dollars it is worth it to have more than one cutting board. Lol

I just cut it in half and eat it with a spoon.
i do that with the ends. We leave the rind on the rest and eat on the patio on nice days.

I followed your instructions and my wife has decided not to leave me.
I just did this; it worked great. I didn't have a large enough bowl, but the short bowl turned out to be a good thing, because then the ends stick up past the brim.
that bowl trick was the best.
