Honda EU 7000 inverter generator at 7700 W full load bank test until breaker tripped

  • Maximum load test on a Honda EU 7000 W Honda generator sustained 7000 W load with no problem with a 7700 W surge before breaker tripped. I have never found a video on TH-cam that showed exactly how much this generator would take so I wanted to do a complete load test just to show what it took to shut this generator down..

    Well done btw. Thanks. I have some Honda 2000. Well over 11k hours before one finally froze and wouldn't run. The rings stuck to the piston. These generators are built with great strong motors. That's where the price comes in. The internals on the motor.

    Thanks for the test.
    I’ve owned the earlier model ES7000IS since the 2005 hurricane season here in Southeast Florida and to date, it has served us well. I’ve never added the amount of load you just tested so it’s good to know how much it will actually run...
    Mine plugs in via a dedicated transfer switch and runs all of the 120v load in our 3 bedroom 2 bath home. We’re able to run all the LED lighting load, microwave oven, refrigerator, 2 burner electric stove, fans, tv, computer and a 6,000BTU window unit for our bedroom at night. It will run for 14 hours on the 4.7 gallon tank @ 50% load. I use REC90 non ethanol fuel ⛽️ while in storage and when hurricane season comes I store 6-5 gallon safety cans of regular gas with Stabil.
    At the end of the season, if not used, I gas-up my vehicles. It is one of the quietest if not the quietest inverter/gen sets on the market. Yep, it’s not cheap, mine was $2,800 back in 2005 and more today.

      I do similar I usually have six five gallon cans of 92 non-ethanol stabilized. It's good for at least a year in sealed containers. Premium fuel does not make as much gums and varnish as lower grade fuel does when it's in storage. I have kept stabilized premium non-ethanol fuel one year in my boat . Without any problem whatsoever. I use mercury fuel stabilizer it takes one ounce per 10 gallons
      Then I have another 50 gallons in my boat.... And then I have about 45 gallons in the cars when a hurricane is coming.... All together that's about 125 gallons. I've run for 2 weeks without having to get more fuel using a 3500 generator and two 8000 BTU window units. After hurricane season I just pour most of the gas into my truck one can at a time. Keeping one around for electrical outages. When you need fuel you're just a few minutes away from siphoning out of your boat or a car...

    • @BuggysTowJam
      @BuggysTowJam 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Michael-qy1jz Herb i can't tell you comparison because i have never used the home depot or compatible generators. I have a few other generators Troy built 5500watt and that one is noisy, I've had several Hondas the eu2000is, the eu3000i, and eu2200is, and all of the Hondas including my eu7000 are hands down the quietest generators I've ever had. Mine still looks brand new and runs like new. When i show people the hour meter they can't believe it has as many hours on it as it does. You can't go wrong with buying a honda. They hold there value. They're very efficient. They sip the fuel. And they are very quiet. If price is a factor that's steering you towards the similar ones look for a good used one to save some money. I don't know how big an ac you're going to run. But my eu2000is i had with my campervan. And it ran my rooftop ac and fridge and tv. If i were using coffee pot as well. I'd turn ac off to brew the coffee them put it in my thermos to keep it hot, and turn my ac back on. So if you're talking window ac the eu2000 will be plenty.

I hear my neighbor 2 houses away generator and mine is purring. Lol and really fuel efficient. If you're powers down for long lengths of time I'd suggest getting a separate larger fuel tank. The fuel injection is great. No carburetor to get gummed up from sitting.

      You can add MANY folks in California to the clan ....we don't have the hurricanes but we have WILDFIRE threat these days! The utilities just LOVE to cut the power during high winds ....because they are scared to death of having to pay out billions of dollars when power lines get accused to causing wild fires. Anymore we can count on several days a year of this nonsense ....plus I mean there is always the slight chance and earthquake could cause outage not to mention occasional localized lightening strikes to transformers which could take all day to replace etc....went so many years of never needing a genny for more than a couple hours to it now having become an out and out mandatory piece of gear ....in fact we are one of the only cheapskates in our tiny rural community that does not have a full on 20kw etc "whole house generator" hardwired into home....LOL mine gets wheeled out and plugged in via cord as needed ....everyone else just about has auto transfer switch that switches over while auto starting their propane fueled generators....their lights dim for a few seconds is all....some even have battery backed inverter power so they might not even know they they lost power at all! (must be nice to be rich....lol)

      Look up generator transfer switch. There's a kind that can connect to your whole breaker box or a kind where you pre pick which loads you'll want to supply ahead of time and you'll be stuck with those. There's a lot to this so do your research and do your homework. I recommend a qualified electrician do the work for you. But study up on the options and how they work so you can ask questions and understand the system you're going to have installed and its limitations.

      If you look closely he is actually using all outlets individually. One 30 amp 120v, two 20 amp 120 and one 30 amps 240v that gives the generator the capacity to perfectly manage 100amps simultaneously ;) Also just the 240v outlet a 30 amps breaker that can manage 7,200 watts by itself. To calculate the wattage you multiply voltage by amps in the case it will be: 240 X 30 = 7,200

      @bryanthornburg8636 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t speak for him personally, but I would say probably, since residential AC units usually use about 3000 watts, without the oven on it should be able to handle it as well, seeing as his house was only using around 2000W without the oven on.

    This is quite impressive. People in 50Hz countries (eg British Commonwealth countries) should not that the engine governors in non-inverter generators are set to run at 20% lower speed (3000 RPM, 60Hz countries eg USA run at 3600 RPM) and thus they won't meet their model number/designation power output. Hondas have enjoyed a good reputation, but Chinese near-clones have been better for at least 10 years, and they are a lot cheaper. With inverter generators, electrical rotation is independent of engine RPM and there is no problem.

    • @michaelvaughn5439
      @michaelvaughn5439  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GalanTv Well if you look at the cord that I have plugged into the generator and see how I cut about a 2 inch section of insulation off of the power cord and therefore I can clamp a multimeter around that power cord and get an accurate amount Reading of the power that it is consuming. But you probably need to go in your meter box and figure out with everything you’re wanting to run clamp around your inbound wire and see how many amps you’re consuming and also you can read the surge load also but that 7000 won’t be the best generator for running most households and it’s very reasonable in the time of a storm you don’t want something that’s going to use 20 gallons of gas a day that you cannot find gas that thing will run all day on about four or 5 gallons of gas. Also you may want to purchase a couple of cheap 110 V window units to put into your house during a storm when you’re going to be out of power for a few days you can put them right into your window and the generator can Easley run the smaller units and I will keep your house very comfortable without the huge surge of a big air conditioner running.

      Jacob Sherer Well I don’t have an electric furnace but I have turned on the oven which pulls about 2800 W I believe and everything seem to work great and the 2 ton air conditioner is no problem but I did put a hard start capacitor kit to let it start much easier and without having zero load it still starts fine with even up to 1000 watt load running

      You know I don’t really know I only use it during hurricanes and probably it has between 1000 W load to about 4000 W load intermittent as things turn on and off but we generally keep it running 24 hours a day during a hurricane and I think it’s about five or 6 gallons a day it’s not much I keep a plastic 55 gallon drum in my garage and it is probably around 20 days Over the last three years with no problems. It’s very efficient

    That is not Watts. That is VA .7700 VA with power factor of 0.8 is 6160 watts. It's supposed to be 7kva with a surge of 7500 VA. Watts and VA are two different things .

    • @JIMIIXTLAN
      @JIMIIXTLAN 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What exactly is the difference I always thought they were the same 120 volts X 10 amps = 1200 watts or VA

    • @Kennywrx
      @Kennywrx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JIMIIXTLAN Apparent power (S) takes into account Real Power (P) and Reactive Power (Q) where S^2 = P^2 + Q^2. An easy way to think of it is that S is the power that needs to be supplied by the source to actually deliver P to a given load. There is a penalty when powering capacitive or inductive loads and this is where Q comes into play.
