    I was only letting my concrete vessels cure for 3 days before sealing them, sometimes less, and I would always get hairline cracks on the second or third 4-hour burn session. Currently waiting for 28 days to be up before sealing them. I weigh them daily & it’s amazing that a few may drop 1 or 2 grams 2-weeks later. Concrete is a moody beast! Thank you for your videos!

      Weigh them daily after demolding. Once the weight stabilizes you are ready to seal.

    I needed to watch this. Been seeing cracks in my jars as soon as I pop them out of the molds. I’m going to make sure to wrap them while setting. Thank you again for this. From Young Jedi :).

    Jai thanks for all the information that you provide I do have a question I use cement all and direct colors pigment and I know the percentage is 3 to 5% do you have a formula how to figure out those percentage when you’re mixing it with cement all?

    • @upvibecandle
      @upvibecandle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Patty. Thanks for the compliment. If you measure your cement all mixture the times that by 5% to get your number. If your jar takes 200 grams of cement all then 200 x 5% equals 10 grams. Hope that helps.

    So how would you tell your customers this? Cracking may happen? Even if you have followed every step?

      Vessels don’t usually crack so You don’t. If it happens you replace it.

    I make concrete planters of close to 6” dia. They crack inside the mould itself. They are ready cravked while I demould. Can you help me what I am doing wrong? I tried 5 products, all cracked apprx at the same place, at the bottom near the curvature. Its a tulip shaped planter.

    • @upvibecandle
      @upvibecandle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Saranya what does your mixture consist of? Are you using Cement All or a cement, plaster and sand mixture? Or something else? How many grams of water to your cement formula are you using? All of these numbers are important to know so we can try to fix your situation.

    Hey! Thank you sooo much for this video, really helpfull. Just a little question. The % of color is in reference of the total amount of mixture (cement + water) or just the cement part? Thank you!

      Just wanna add a question to this one. When calculating the water, do you include pigment as part of the concrete weight? Or does pigment not affect the water needed? Thanks!

      @@Pilsner6996 Technically one should but I did not. However, it really should be.

    Great video! Thanks for all the helpful tips. I came to this video because I have noticed some cracking in some of my jars. Usually its just the larger ones. I use a mixture of 80% cement all and 20% water with 3% pigment. Most of the jars turn out great, but I notice that for 1 or 2 of them a crack begins to form on the bottom (exposed) part of the jar within 30 minutes of pouring. To avoid this from happening, I started covering them with plastic wrap to keep it from drying too fast and it has been working great. However, I feel like the plastic wrap is just a band-aid and not solving the actual problem. Do you think I should reduce my water/cement all ratio? Or should I be looking at another factor.

    • @upvibecandle
      @upvibecandle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it's not a bandaid it's exactly what you need to do. Concrete hardens due to hydration and not because it dries. You need to slow down the drying process. You can either water bathe them, cover them with plastic or spray them with water for a few hours. Being that the plastic is working you have solved your problem. I am actually finishing a video on this as we speak so congrats... You solved your problem.

      @@upvibecandle I'm looking forward to seeing your video on this when it comes out. Thanks for affirming that what I'm doing is correct, because I was beginning to doubt my recipe. I recently tried to put my jars into a plastic bin and seal it tightly to keep the moisture in, however one still cracked, but my bin could have been too large. Either way, I will stick to covering them with plastic. Thanks again!

    What if you still getting water leaks even after properly sealing the vessel?

    • @upvibecandle
      @upvibecandle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Please explain exactly what you are doing so I understand better. Based on my findings, I've discovered that there are two kinds of sealants: blocking sealants and repelling sealants.
      A blocking sealant works like a protective wall or a plastic covering. It creates a barrier to prevent any substances from getting through. On the other hand, a repelling sealant behaves like sunscreen. It coats the pores of the concrete, similar to how sunscreen coats your skin to protect it from the sun.
      The bottom line is it all depends on the sealer imo. It's possible a water test won't hold up but a candle will. Let me know.

  • @JonathasJunior
    @JonathasJunior 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Friend, I'm trying to make a candle, but the candle wax always gets into the jar and makes it darker or stained with the wax.
    I've already applied sealant for concrete and I've tried "shellac", the wax always goes into the jar
    What do you usually use to seal?

      @@upvibecandle Thanks buddy, all videos play fine to me, this is the only one were a high pitch noise shows up, not sure what it is.
      Anyways, thanks a lot for sharing your process. I'm not really interested in Candles, but I am working on Concrete planters, which follow pretty much the same process and same moulds. I've been dealing with issues on my pots were they look perfectly fine, and as soon as I put soil in them, cracks start appearing in about 24hrs. Tried adding more concrete (white, gray), more sand, more curing time, 7 days curing in water
      Will try your Plaster+sand+concrete and see if it makes any difference ;)

      @@OlivierLopezCh Haha!!! My formula definitely works but not for everyone. Why? There are so many variables. If it doesn't work for you then take out the plaster and just use cement and sand. It will take longer to cure but only try it if mine formula doesn't work for you. Let me know.
