I have an 01 1000. Same issue. I was riding and it died on my way to work. Changed the battery, stator, rectifier and changed the oil. Crank no start. Bought a fuel pump hoping that’s the problem, haven’t installed it yet but after watching this I just ordered a pressure regulator. I’ll check back this weekend when the Part get in.
Also, you can tell if the fuel pump is attempting to do pumping things by switching the key on and listening for the whirring noise. although it could still make noise but not be working very well.
@@ShanesGettingHandy it’s making noise. I even took off the gas cap and put my ear to it. Once I rebuild the fuel pump. It wasn’t maintained properly in years so I figure everything just need to be changed at this point.
I just did mine put in new filter, pump and rectifier and starter relay, still makes the same sound. Can smell gas now when trying to start but won’t start up. Why do these videos make it look so easy and when I do it, I don’t get the same results.
hey so i own a K2 gsxr1000 and mine is giving me an FI code, but idk if that would have something to do with the fuel pump or maybe injectors? bc i thought it was the battery, changed it. still will crank but wont start
You’ll need to find out which FI code it is. There is a connector under the left side rear fairing next to the cargo compartment hidden away with a rubber cap on it. Remove the cap and jumper the two pins inside with a paper clip. Turn the power on and it will give you the actual error code on the dash. Look up the error code online and proceed from there. Good luck!
My 02 gsxr 750 has been through 5 fuel pumps 1 gas tank and 1 fuel injector bike has 9k original miles on it. When I had fuel pump issues the bike would start with a couple seconds of opening the throttle but now bike either turns on for 2 seconds and then dies or just sputters the whole time and doesn’t fire you have any idea if this could be my problem or if it’s something else?
This would be my first guess, but you could verify pretty easy with a fuel pressure gauge first. Good luck! Also, to help prevent these fuel related failures, try to find ethanol free fuel to run in it. Especially if it sits for months at a time ever.
Recently I changed my fuel filter in my GSR 600. Went for a ride for like 20 miles and since than it wont start. No codes, pump is priming, but it wont start.
@@ShanesGettingHandy i checked a lot of things but fuel pressure not yet. Thanks to your video this will be my next check. I noticed one more thing. Now when i unplug fuel line from the tank fuel is dripping out, where it wasnt before filter change. Does it even matter or I assembled something wrong. Im guessing pump should hold fuel in the tank.
Although not impossible, it’s unlikely the ECU. Much more likely a bad fuel pump. Check the power wires to the fuel pump and see if they get voltage briefly after key on during prime. If so, pump is probably bad. Alternatively you could just connect the pump directly to 12v and see if it will activate. Good luck!
Oftentimes people will replace the entire fuel pump assembly, instead of just the individual parts. It's substantially more expensive that way, but it's also pretty much guaranteed to work right, especially if you can find it OEM new.
Ah, yes, didn't even think of the fact it might degrade those plastic parts. I've got ethanol free in it right now, even thought it's a lower octane than I wish. I'm tired of fixing fuel issues, and I don't ride it often enough.
Dang! Not a whole lot of these left in good condition. I bought mine brand new in 2000. I put money down before the dealer even had a single one in stock.
@@ShanesGettingHandy I'm servicing mine after the covid situation. Cleaned out the tank, fuel pump added fuel but their is tiny hole under the tank. Planning to use Steel Epoxy and seal it. By the way have you fitted a external fuel filter. Hope mine fires up tomorrow. Yellow ones are the best looking😍❤️
@@OO7RX7 Old gas is the absolute enemy to these. I had to clean out the tank while I had it apart as well. Thankfully no holes. I changed the fuel pump a few years back due to old gas. Good luck with yours!
Hey I have the same bike, I feel hesitation when I’m riding and it’ll feel like it’s bouncing in and out of power. Kinda like vtec, do you have any ideas what it could be?
I had a very similar issue recently, actually just after I filmed this video. I changed the spark plugs and ran my injectors through the ultrasonic cleaner and it solved my issues perfectly.
When you turn the key on do you hear a whirring inside the tank for a second or two? My bet is the fuel pump is stuck and gummed up from sitting with old gas.
Start doing it after I put gas out of a gas jug it had a little water in it and maybe a little trash I clean the water out in the trash but still won’t run right
I have a 2006 dl650 vstrom. Fuel pump went. Quantum fuel pumps. $106 for regulator, pump, wires filter, tank o ring. All came in same box.Works great.
Nice!
Beautiful bike!
I love that body style.
I remember a good friend of mine had that same color combo before it was stolen.
I bought this brand new and had a deposit before the first one even showed up.
YEP, 100% this is what im strougeling with also on my 650f. Thanks alot

My 03 ive replace fuel pump regulator and injectors any advice it will crank all day but no start i can heat the pump prime
Did you check for spark already? Did you verify it has fuel pressure? Does it have any codes?

That shirt is awesome!
Which one? Both are I suppose. 🤣
The colorblind one
I didn't notice that you changed shirts, makes sense tho
Looks like you’re at 47psi after the new regulator was installed. Any concerns with it being 4psi greater than spec?
I noticed that as well and opted to run it and see. So far seems to be close enough, although it’s likely running slightly rich.
So you said the assembly itself fails can you further explain

Not sure if you still need it, but this might help:

Keeps bogging
