Come along as we lamb out our flock of southdown ewes. support our farm by shopping our Etsy store www.etsy.com/shop/sweetpeafarmny Follow Sweet Pea Farm NY on Instagram for daily updates
I love that you let them labor with their friends, Like I'd want the support of my friends while giving birth too, lol!!! Can I just say animals giving birth are amazing.
Labor can be hours but if you see a water bag present or pushing and there’s no progress in 20-30 minutes i glove up and check. It is better to be safe then sorry. If there is a problem and they are left too long you may lose them ...The teeth finding and pawing step of early labor can take a while so I don’t count time until the ewe is pushing or there’s a water bag present whichever is first
There are always times when losses happen on a farm that really there was nothing could be done about its a part of farming but doing the best we can is all we can do! It certainly looks like lambing season is going well for you though! lots more to go.
You’re such a good shepherd! And so devoted to your flock! Humans as well as the wooly ones! And the woolly ones
Congrats on all the new babies!
We are sorry for your loss. We can relate as we are experiencing some joy and pain this season too. 😢

How long is a typical labor for sheep? Like when do you start to get nervous or intervene?
