    Lovely 1st series 75, Chris. I could not see from video, but it looks to have the correct thin black gaskets behind the plastic wheel arch spats. Which is good because water gets behind them , rusting arch lips underneath. This happened to the 2nd 75 I had , 3.0 v6. On my 1989 twin spark , which still had them so no problems . The vibration possibly could be from the donuts , rather than balancing the prop itself.

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Martin, thanks a lot for watching and for the suggestion. I did wonder anbout the donuts but this is the first transaxle Alfa that I have driven / worked on, so somewhat of a learning curve! The car is originally a Green Cloverleaf but was modified by the guy who partially restored it back in 2020, adding Twin Spark side strips and rear spoiler / body kit. Sadly he also swapped the damaged QV Recaro-type interior for a rather mundane TS "tweed style" interior!

    • @martinclapton2724
      @martinclapton2724 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAlfaNut the tweed style seats were standard on the early 2.5 and TS models , the Recaros appeared in the LE models which was the UK dealer run -out models with a little plaque on the dash , before they introduced the replacement 155. Personally , preferred the original seats the LE seats felt higher so you almost felt you were sitting “ On “ the car , not “IN “ it, so to speak. The gear change can be improved by putting extra washers either side of the linkage , I’m lead to believe, although I never tried it. It’s more pleasant a change when you do the change by fingertips which when practiced becomes quicker later on. Love the car though, those alloys always suited the car so well. How’s the Beta by the way?

    Great that you got the MOT out of the way Chris. I recall way back in the early 70’s I bought my first car, a 1959 Hillman Minx. Three speed manual on the column! Took it for an MOT and got a “Failed it mate!” It had rust along the sills on both sides. Luckily dad was an accountant at a local car dealership/garage. Had them weld some steel along the sills and paint over it. Took it back and got the MOT.

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh a Hillman Minx! What a cute car they were - with it's "Koala bear" face and little fins on the back! It's funny that even 40+ years later, we are still welding up old cars to get them through their MOT 😅

    My 77 Alfertta GTV just passed its MOTtoo. You can get the prop shaft balanced on the car, it harmonises it with the transaxle and engine. It's expensive but works a treat if all your propshaft components are sound! I had mine done and it was like a sewing machine afterwards!

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Graham, thanks for watching and for the tip - may I ask who you used for the balancing?

    • @grahamsimper1680
      @grahamsimper1680 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Omicron on Norfolk, they're a Lancia specialist really but they do a lot of B20 GT's that have a transaxle that also has the pro-shaft turning at engine speed (which it needs to be to do the balancing) its not cheap, just under £1,000.00 but I was very pleased with the result. But there is no point doing it if the pro-shaft has ropey components as it will go out of balance as they fail ands when you release parts you'll not be as perfect as when first done. Later on if the prop is removed, it needs to be marked on the engine end and transaxle end to keep the unions lined up the balance.@@TheAlfaNut

    Morning Chris. I agree with other comments about the fuel pipe. Do a bit of research. Someone out there will be able to manufacture a suitable new length of pipe. My coupe had a similar issue last MOT. My wife's 500L failed MOT on frayed seatbelt. See if you can do something to prevent yours deteriorating. The 75 is growing on me. I feel as though I may be in the minority, but I think the 75 is a beautiful car (but I was also quite covetous of both the old 1750/2000 Berlina and the BMW 2002) I suppose I'm a bit of a 'square'. I also preferred the looks of the Dino 308 2+2 to the preceding Dino 246 GT. Mad, right? I might be in an extreme minority there, I suspect. I've never been an 'Oooo, look at me' type of person. The new Alfa 38 Stradale is an absolutely gorgeous freaking work of art-machine, but it's (obviously) not for me.
    Cheers on getting the MOT for the 75. I was holding my breath for you, Chris!

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, hope you are well? It's a funny thing but I've always much preferred the swoopy, 1960's aesthetic, so always liked the GTV6 rather than the 75, 33, 155 etc. Lately though, I have grown to actually find the square car designs rather cool - very 1980's and "in your face" too! I think they are now quite retro-cool too which helps! Strangely, I am not that impressed with the Stradale - it's a bit too fussy for me.

    • @jazzfan999
      @jazzfan999 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAlfaNut The '38 is rubbish, but the 33? :) ('oops' for the original typo). I suppose the pics of the Tipo 33 always made me wish that Alfa had continued along those lines instead of seemingly seceding the erotic designs to Ferrari (8C and 4C notwithstanding). I understood why they did this, but when I saw depictions of the new Stradale, I felt that my heart's wish had come true, so perhaps I'm overly impressed with it. I should confess that when my wife and I bought our Alfetta GT in the late 70's, we both wanted something flashy, and so passed on the Alfetta Berlina. This was all a very long time ago.

      @jazzfan999 cheers, I love the interior of the new Stradale and of course the fact is that it has the same engine as my Giulia Quadrifoglio, just in a higher state of tune, so that makes me happy too! Have a good evening 👍🏻

    Hasn't got much "Oomph"???
    Then you have a problem.
    The problem that I had with my (2,5 V6) was it wouldn't do less then 80mph (without trying) where ever I went!

      I think its an issue of torque Paul - my 2.5 156 is a 24 valve and doesn’t have anywhere near the flexibilty of my 3.0 V6.
      Also I can’t push the 75 at the moment as the prop has a vibration 🫤

    We have autofficina here in Latvia, the owner seems to like the 75 a lot. I am kind of not sure, but this one looks really nice. And I would say it is the same as with so many alfa romeo vehicles, people either like or dislike them. Not all people will like them, just like I dislike some Audi or BMW models, but love the 156 and the twinspark engines. I used to be in awe when the new Giulia came out, but now I am like, meh, I still like the 156 or the GTV or even GT better. There is something about older vehicles. I bet the newer one is a lot of fun though. I still miss my 156 2.0 TS 1998.

      Hi mate, thanks for watching & commenting! Yeah the older cars have a more physical connection because of old memories and because they are harder to drive of course! 😂. I have a 1998 156 as well - I am making an update video about it soon. 👍🏻

    Some things that are good to be done:
    1. Replace the fuel pump hose with a regular flexible one, no need to search for a special shaped OEM hose. You'll get stranded that way.
    2. Vibration around the propshaft tunnel - propshaft bearing is done. When changing it, make sure to mark the positions on the shafts, otherwise you'll lose the balancing.
    3. Front lower arm bushings - pull out the torsion bars, and clean them, then get the bushings replaced with Lemforder ones. These will get stuck from the lack of lubrication and water ingress, and you don't wanna know what kind of bullshit this will cause.
    4. Pull out the plastic cover under the wiper, and check for rust. Same for the plastic sills, rear inner wings (on the level of the top of the tyres), under front plastic wings

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the suggestions - luckily, someone is making me a replacement fuel hose. The propshaft has been removed by the previous owner during restoration of the engine, so I think it will need to be rebalanced anyway. I'll be cleaning up the suspension arms this Winter and powder coating them probably. I'm happy to say that there is no rust at all underneath the car or in the body - the whole car was stripped back to a shell and repaired where necessary.

      @@TheAlfaNut Hi! I have a 116 chassis car, in this case a 90 2.0 . Unfortunately in a far worse condition, as it's been off the road since 2007. The suspention needed almost complete overhaul, and the fuel tank was almost as bad as yours (unfortunately, I cannot find one new).

      @user-sy1ed9ex5m The 90 is a very rare car now, definitely worth saving. Is the fuel tank the same or similar to the 75? Which country are you in?

    Full marks for resurrecting an Alfa Romeo 75 v6 and trying to get it in proper working order. However, it is wrong to compare the Alfa Romeo 75 with the new Alfa Romeo Giulia. Being of italian origin and having spoken with ex Alfa Romeo engineers from the early 1970s while working on a project on Alfa Romeo at university, the marque Alfa Romeo died in 1986 when Fiat took it over, the whole engineering philsophy of Alfa Romeo having changed/disregarded in the 155 following the 75. The Alfa 75 used the alfetta platform of 1972 and all alfa engines, and was the last all Alfa Romeo designed car with no interference from Fiat (or Ferrari). The Giulia was designed by mainly ex Ferrari engineers, headed by an Ex ferrari engineer, and in v6 guise has a Ferrari derived engine also (fact despite alfa saying otherwise) and is too complicated by far in terms of electronics. It should not have had drive by wire brakes either; it is also much larger, like an alfa 164 in size, and should also have had a transaxle like the front engined Ferraris but was too expensive for the development and build. Lastly a purpose built manual should have been available, not the last minute developed europe only one. Apart from that it is a great car also.

      Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. I agree that the 75 is the last "real" independant Alfa Romeo and this is an important car that I am committed to restoring. The same thing happened to the Lancia marque also and although my first car back in 1986 was a Lancia Beta Coupe, (which I loved) I realise that this was not a "pure" Lancia in the way that the Fulvia was for instance. Sadly, the car market has evolved into a situation where makers have to collaborate together to be able to make any profit and the inventive engineering of brands like Alfa and Lancia is now too expensive to be viable. Having said all that, the Giulia Quadrifoglio is a great car and puts to shame virtually all of the German sports saloons!

    • @cbca6567
      @cbca6567 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheAlfaNut Yep agree with you. Pity about the Lancia marque, with everybody associating Lancia today mostly with the integrale road car, because of all the rally wins with the works delta cars, and forgetting both the Beta four door and Beta coupe editiions and also previous lancias when independent from fiat. Regarding the Alfa Romeo Giulia it is I agree much better than the German sports saloons and I should have mentioned that before. However, lots of US quadrifoglios had many different electronic problems on long term reviews, and lots of people hated the brake by wire grabby feel at low traffic speeds. Lastly for me when they decided not to build a proper manual and sell it in the uk I was upset. Still glad you are enjoying her and the ride/handling combination is apparently as good as lotus could do (acording to evo if i recall well) with a car that flows over mixed camber and non smooth uk roads.

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the Giulia has a lovely chassis and has a blend of good ride and great handling that is hard to believe. I found a nice Beta Spyder 2.0 from 1980 a year ago, (very underpriced!) which I am also driving & improving. I would love an Integrale too, or even a Delta Turbo but would prefer an early 1960’s Flaminia GT (Touring bodied), or the Zagato Super Sport. Such beautiful cars!
