Porsche 911 992 Documentary

  • Porsche released the details of the 992's first powertrains as part of the model’s debut. Both the Carrera S and Carrera 4S - the first two members of the next-generation 911 family - feature twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six engines. We knew from the debut that both models would have 443 horsepower on offer, but we can now report that there’s 390 pound-feet of torque, as well. All told, there's 23 horsepowers and 22 lb-ft of torque more than the current Carrera S.
Despite these modest gains (relative to 400-plus-horsepower sports cars), the new 911 is much more potent. The sprint to 60 miles per hour takes just 3.5 seconds for the Carrera S and 3.4 seconds for the all-wheel-drive variant - grab the Sport Chrono Package, and those figures fall to 3.3 and 3.2 seconds, respectively. The top speed, meanwhile, is 191 mph for both variants.
Porsche calls the 992's engine “new,” but really, its official name gives away its modified nature - the 9A2 Evo. Based on the 991.2's engine, the 3.0-liter in the new 911 features a revised exhaust manifold made from cast iron. Combined with a pair of larger turbochargers - the symmetrical units have electric wastegates, and larger compression and turbine wheels - the 9A2 Evo promises a reduction in turbo lag. That said, the larger turbocharger does mean less accessible torque compared to last year's 9A2 engine - peak twist is available from 2,300 rpm rather than 1,700 rpm.
Engineers also repositioned the intercoolers, moving them from the inside corners of the rear bumper to almost directly above the muffler. While there's a negligible decrease in cooling efficiency - exhaust systems get hot, after all - the new position allowed Porsche to enlarge both intercoolers. There's 14 percent more cooling capacity, and because the position is more efficient, the throughput of cool air is higher.
One of the big differences between the 911 we'll receive here in the United States and what our cousins across the pond will see is the presence of a gasoline particulate filter - European Union law mandates its presence. What that means is that continental 911s will be cleaner than North American models, although our car will sound better. How much better, though, we can't say. Even our Porsche Cars North America contact at the event hadn't heard an NA-spec car.
That said, the European model sounds perfectly throaty, both on startup and under full chat. The sound of 992s running hot laps regularly interrupted our tech sessions on the Hockenheim main tower's fourth floor. And that sound, aside from the sheer volume, was every bit a Porsche flat six. Porsche's engineers once again have nailed the 911's soundtrack.

Made to feel good on a long drive,
Made to be pushed to the limit on a mountain road or a track
Made to make you smile every time you go back to the parking lot
Made to make your hair stand up on your hands every time you turn the key
It doesn't only do one or two things it does them all........Porsche

This truly shows the level of detail going into these cars. Things that other automobile manufacturers don't even consider and engineered to the max! I recall reading several years ago that Porsche has the tail (spoiler) go up a bit farther on cabrio cars than the coupes--due to the increased drag produced by the canvas material. It's very evident that that level of detail goes through and through. Fortunately, being the world's most profitable car manufacturer allows them what I would call 'engineering in depth.' I count myself very fortunate to own two Porsches.

Porsche, please hire me. My Grandfather was a WW2 Vet. Murrells Marauder, and he went on to own a high end custom car shop that specialized in Porsche in NY in the 80's. He was way ahead of the times. He always promised me a Porsche 911 when I was older, but he passed in 94 due to illnesses from his service in the war. I wish he could see this video, he would be so impressed by the tech. Maybe one day when my kids are put of school I can afford a 911 Turbo S.

    From Steven Nikitas, Massachusetts USA
I am an artist (painter, sculptor, draftsman, etc.) and have had a long-standing interest in supercar designs, in race cars, etc.
Years ago I perceived a visual shortcoming in the design of the Lamborghini Murcielago so I spent three weeks in the Summer of 2013 making thirteen drawings (side view, top view, isometric, rear quarterpanel, wheels, rear view, etc.) to correct the weakness. My drawings were based on my own sense of design and proportion, and also on an important idea from art history practiced by the Ancient Greeks.
I measured the side view after I had completed it and while I drew it by eye it was mathematically perfect. So I knew that I was onto something.
I mailed the drawings to Lamborghini but heard nothing back.
This new Porsche is very nice. It is amazing how Porsche can change the design so incrementally. The car is always changing and fresh, but seems to always remain basically the same. That is a very subtle but complex artistic feat. This video is really fascinating.
However there is one small and simple change that could make the car even more beautiful. It is an idea that has been recognized in art for thousands of years.
I have made a drawing of the Porsche with the design change added.

Being a owner of a 991.2 this model of course had my attention - also because it’s a design icon that everybody recognizes on the road. The more I look at it the more I like it....but two things that I have trouble with is the PORSCHE name under the lights in the back - first seen on the 718. In my humble opinion it would have looked a lot better if the chassis went all the way up under the lights just like the 991 C4 model. Everyone knows that this car is a Porsche and that’s the beauty of it...so the lines would have been even more classic without this big name on the back. The next thing is the interior and the choice of gear lever design and the lines in general which I find a little messy. I hope it will grow on me when I see it in person. No doubt that the new model is the best ever and it’s been improved again. The Porsche 911 remains an icon 🙂

The career you should study is called "transportation design"
Clay modeling is part of what you'll learn, along with advanced sketching and rendering to visualize the future of transportation.
The two best colleges in the U.S for this career and two of the best in the world are:
-Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, CA)
-College for Creative studies (Detroit, MI)
There are other great schools too that offer industrial design programs and then a concentration in transportation as you progress:
-Academy of Art University (San Francisco, CA)
      -Cleveland Institute of Art
      -University of Cincinatti

To me Porsche is the only desireable electric car maker in europe. I bet the Taycan will be perfect! :D

like the grip on high speed track so suspension looks good. The revs on the track were high and seamless. The rear of car is aggressive enough but the front of car lacks imagination. Looks to me like a little timid man with spectacles on working in a library. Other drivers need to see this car in their rearview and WANT to get out of the way. A car can be elegant yet show off a little muscle to.

I love when I see the new models of Porsche in the places where I live, in south Italy, near the Nardo Technical Center
