  • Have you ever felt abandoned, left to navigate life’s challenges alone? Maybe it's by a system, like the medical system or your friends or a combination of societal and personal abandonment.
In this video, we explore the deep emotions that arise from feeling abandoned and, more importantly, how to shift from a place of loneliness to one of self-empowerment. Personally I believe it is important to learn to not abandon ourselves and to give ourselves the care and compassion, we might not be getting from the outside at this given moment. Which doesn't mean, that we don't advocate for a better situation for ourselves.
What does it mean when we stop abandoning ourselves, giving ourselves self compassion?
I mentioned in the video Dr. Ingrid Clayton, who has great information on the Fawning response as well as Dr. Kristin Neff, who is a compassion researcher and has many free resources on her website.

Wise words indeed. I have become somewhat codependent, which I only became aware of last year, because of my abandonment issues from childhood. It is something I'm working very hard to reverse now. I try to say to myself 'I'll always be there for you." It helps to soothe my nervous system and cultivates self-trust and self-reliance rather than outsourcing to the external. A very important message that a lot of us need to be hear. Thank you.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and I totally understand how soothing it is for the nervous system. I experience it the same way. Sounds like you're doing a great job!

Mmmm yes, good stuff. In addition to KN, you may also enjoy Pema Chodron, a Buddhist nun who does a lot with self-compassion work😊

Aww nice, I still use the Tonglan practice that I learned from her. Breathing in the discomfort and breathing out peace😊
