      Arguably that is the beauty of it. In my opinion he does live up to his uncle (i think was their relation) and everyone should celebrate that by "comparing" the two

      Yes that's so true. So many people comment that rahat can never reach nusrat's level but we can't compare the two. If you notice closely, both of them have such different personal styles. Rahat is much more modern and clean. Sometimes I will listen to nusrat and it will pierce my ears painfully. That rarely happens with rahat's voice. I feel bad that people will keep putting rahat below nusrat no matter how great he performs.

      @musicalmogul6740 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Iam-a-live No they don't
      what they do are riffs and runs which are arguably almost the same thing as alaap but alaaps are a lot more complicated performed on very complex scales which these popstars havcen't even heard of

    • @Iam-a-live
      @Iam-a-live 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@musicalmogul6740 even if it is complex the basic rule is the same, its just speed, their alaaps are slower compared to ours other than that its the same. And they haven't heard that bcoz its not their style of singing. In the end it's all about practicing the style, you cant expect a guitar player to play piano on the same level as he plays guitar but the guitar player can understand the piano playing very well bcoz its all standing on the foundation of notes or swar. Its complex not different.

    Then good singing
    Then phenomenal singing
    Then heavenly singing
    Then alaap of raags
    Then comes taan (hitiing more than 3 notes in a sec)

    • @jaypaatil
      @jaypaatil 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm myself a singer so I know what I'm talking about the range is a thing I know but its also a mentality of a singer that he can't sing that high when you repeat paltas and taane again and again then you believe in yourself then you try to hit high notes when you belive its not like in first year your range is c# and till your 40 its still c# it changes is you grow as a artist. When I started i started on D because I feared it will not reach that high and all. You will get it as you progress as a singer.

    Hello Carl. I love your videos & your reactions, reviews and opinions.
    Some Info, hopefully will add to your knowledge on Indian Classical Music:
    * The 7 major notes (called 7 sur in Indian Classical) are - Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa --- Many classical singers play randomly, calling them out instead of the words in the song,while practicing or performing.
    * Almost always, a classical performance will start with an Aalap - kind of highlighting all significant notes(surs) that are there in the song. Aalap is almost always sung in 'AA' sound, along with some helping sounds sometimes.
    * From the very start, probably in the 4/5th class, a classical student is made to sing the song or peices only in Aalap, or only through notes.
    Next stage is to encourage them to be more adventurous with notes, not sticking jst to the ones for the words in the songs.
    This is called a Taan(T as in Tree being said by a Russian).
    May be you can now relate to some aalap & Taans being sung by Rahat in his performance. Or if you remember Kaushiki Chakraborty, who was trained under her dad, another great singer - Ajoy Chakraborty.
    * A lot of big classical singers from here are trained under Guru tradition (Guru Parampara). Its a centuries old tradition, where its Guru's choice if they want that student or not. Student stays with the Guru for many many years. Sometimes, after Guru's permission they also learn under other Gurus to learn different styles of Indian Classical.
    * Students learning under Guru parampara are generally prodigies identified by their Gurus. This system isn't monetory at all.
    * There has been a tradition of Guru Dakshina ... or a payback/gift to a Guru from the Student when they are take permission to leave, or even later when they are capable enough. References of Guru Dakshina can be found in really ancient times, from indian manuscripts etc that are more than 2000 years old.
    There's so much more, infinite level of details & nitty grittieson this topic .. for some other time :-)
    Happy Times .. Cheers !

They are from a family of singers , music is like a religion to them. They exercise their voice daily since childhood at sunrise every single day . The whole family is trained to sing as an essential skill. The men and women learn to sing.

    You need to do a reaction to the guy who originally sang this song Nusrat Fateh ali Khan, the part where you said “that was a nice breakdown” is actually quite different when his uncle sang the song and that’s because he had even better control over his vocals.... 🙌😎

    You do realise you are commenting on the technical abilities for an "Ustad" which translates to "Master". A title earned upon mastering the art of singing. A little disappointed with the analysis to be honest.
