I’m 42. I first saw Derek in Richmond Va. when I was 16. I was amazed he was just a little older than me. He has consistently blown my mind since then.
those early daze must of been wild for Derek ,, i saw him in Hawaii the Palace Theater in Hilo maybe about 250 people showed up then a week later he's on stage at CrossRoads in front of thousands ,, crazy to me
I saw Robert Cray band a few years back. They were so good at the dynamics, they brought it down so low the pa seemed to almost be off...and then SLAM!! Great show...
Before Derek went on tour, his band’s trailer got broken into or something. He was asking for Pyle Driver speakers via his website before his tour with Clapton. I had a Super with 4 of them and said, what the hell, Derek will put MUCH better use to those speakers than I. So I shipped them all off to him. It was a bigger deal to me prob than Derek and it made for a great memory. Anyway this video stirred up that old bit.
Derek spoke about how much Buddy Guy would bring the volume down. I always thought that was a much over worked technique with blues men. Who wants to listen to a whisper and not the real music? I feel it was showmanship from a bygone day.

Derek is not just a great musician, he's a really bright man

Thamks for sharing your stories😊
Butch Trucks - nephew of Butch Trucks, played with Allman Brothers, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and Susan Tedeski-brilliant guitarist!
Is that an Arsenal shirt in the background?….
What the year of that SG ?
Sometimes I hum a tune lead by Mr. Trucks’ slide .
Can’t stop looking at the guitar you’re holding. Which one?
I saw the Perth show of that tour in 2007 and I will always remember thinking who is this young blonde guy upstaging Eric Clapton 😂
Dude, he doesn’t talk about touring with Clapton. So the title is click bait. You can do better than that I think.
This isn’t the full interview. Calm down and enjoy chief!🫡
@ fair enough
Derek Trucks is the greatest slide player ever.
Duane Allman was no slouch at the slide guitar! Imagine what he could have done had he not left us!
Derek Smalls is the greatest pipe smoker ever.😊
Playing with Buddy Guy at 10, with Bob Dylan at 11...
Normal stuff for a 5th grader.
