This is a must. This half of Spencer’s run feels like pure Spider-Man. The first arc is one of my all time favourites. Editorial interfere dropped the ball on what will be Vol. 2
I feel like Spencer's run is tailored toward longtime fans who wanted to see classic elements of the Spider-Man mythos return. That said, new readers will enjoy it, and it is a solid introduction to the larger world of Spider-Man that the films, games, and shows barely touch on. Highly recommend!
Slott's run was good, there was a definite emphasis on his stories reintroducing longtime fans as well as newcomers post-Superior Spider-Man. I think its definitely an underrated run and Worldwide also get a too much hate imo. Won't get into my opinions of Spencer's run though.
Totally love Ottley's art, it's a real shame how crappy this run ends. Not sure if I'll bother getting this volume at least. I do plan on buyin' Ultimate Spidey vol 2 and 3 though... 😁
Not worth it in my opinion. The run was okay. Slott’s run is actually better now that I think about it. The problem with Slott is that out of his decade on the title, only like 4 stories are worthy any discussion: Spider-Island, Big Time, Superior, Spider-Verse and then Go Down Swinging (which is hit or miss but I liked it). But also Slott has some of the third worst stories in Spider-Man. The Parker Industries era is very boring. Clone Conspiracy needlessly retconned Gwen Stacy’s final moments and brought Ben Reilly back for a cycle of terrible writing.
@@BowmansWorldI somewhat agree. Slott at his best was better than Spencer’s run, but Slott’s bad parts were way way way worse than anything Spencer could do.
There are actually two Slott omnis on their way: Spider-Verse/Geddon, and Superior Spider-Man. I'm really hoping they sell well enough that we get Big Time and Worldwide omnis too.

Spencer’s run is okay. After seeing what’s happened after it’s been released, there was less storytelling and more retconning for the sake of retconning. He just wanted to use this opportunity to correct things that he didn’t like. Ned’s death, Sin’s Past, and ultimately One More Day which editorial definitely denied him as he got closer to release. The ending reeks of editorial corrections and clashes with the buildup for Kindred that was around for dozens of issues
The Ottley and Gleason art felt wasted to me on this book. Story wise it also really felt like it peaked at the Hunted arc and never climbed back up to the same level. I don't want to say there was unexpected editorial interference but this run just felt like housekeeping after a while. And towards the end a certain story arc is ret-conned when I personally feel it would have been better to continue ignoring it. That does essentially the same thing without making it relevant again. But I totally get why this run has fans and I'm glad it is being collected. Spencer is a talented writer.
I agree. Jumping on it really felt like a breath of fresh air but after a while, the housekeeping bit really started to drift from the promise of a new writer. We all were expecting new things but it felt like Spencer was dealing more with "fixing" things than actually moving forward. The entire thing with Kindred was telegraphed from the beginning, very obvious were it was going with the clear clues and all but I think that were it ended proofed that any new writer on ASM is going to have serious mandates from editorial, with little room for actual expansion. I just wish that if Spencer was left to conclude the story as he wanted, it may have been worth all the built up
Was there any particular reason why the rest of Tie-In’s to the 2099 crossover event weren’t included? Since at least two of them were even written by Spencer himself.

Amazing Spider-Man vol 1 (1963 series) ran till issue 441. The it was restarted in 1999 as vol 2. The JMS run starts during this run before going back to the legacy numbering (which is why it jumps from 58 to 500). The legacy numbering is maintained until issue 700. The Series is then relaunched again as Superior Spider-man. After that Amazing Spider-Man came back again, restarting at #1 (2014 series, aka vol 3). Then the Secret Wars (2015) event happened, resulting in the book being relaunched again (2015 series, vol 4). This series eventually reverted to legacy numbering again (jumping from 32 to 789). Finally, we come to the Nick Spencer series where they relaunched it again (2018 series, vol 5).
I was really exited to pick this up but the book literally smells awful! Has anyone else had this problem? The fumes coming from the ink gives me a headache. I have several other omnibuses and all have a bit of smell, but this one is really, REALLY bad. So disappointed.
I am somewhat unsure about the thin paper. The last Conan omnibus was a slap in the face for as a paying customer. This omnibus has also some problems of artwork or word bubbles bleeding through. I will think about it a bit more this time and perhaps this is one I will pass as well as the next volume. Same for Big Time. I have the material in Premiere Hardcovers in nice thick ...ok a bit smaller size. But still, no problem with the paper as in recent 125 $ omnis....

That is very confusing. Why do they keep resetting the numbers?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork because #1 sells more
This is almost 10 years after the JMS run, there are a lot of things in between
Once you get used to how it works it gets a lot less confusing.
Dammit Omar, you made me buy this.....
I blame Melanie.
Random query, but do you think the 5 issue mini The Amazing Mary Jane will be in vol 2 of this? Its not pivotal or anything, I just liked it.
I almost picked it up. How many events get in the way of this story though?
2 big ones
@@NearMintCondition This is what stops me from picking up so many modern Marvel omnis. I did get House of M today.
What time does it drop on IST!! I forgot ??!
I belive they drop new books noon every Tuesday
I hate that I hate nice Spencer’s run. Because Ryan Ottley is my favorite artist but I don’t think I can buy this lol
This is a Must have book!!!!! If you were to choose one book..would you buy this or the 'House of M' omni? My wallet hates this channel. Lol
You whispered that you forgot the Lazy Susan this time, right?
This was a rough read for me. One of my least fav runs. Love the art of the standard cover though!
personally just happy with how quick modern runs are being turned into omni's.
It was a ok run but wasn’t the biggest fan to be honest
I was really exited to pick this up but the book literally smells awful! Has anyone else had this problem? The fumes coming from the ink gives me a headache. I have several other omnibuses and all have a bit of smell, but this one is really, REALLY bad. So disappointed.
I've seen some people say the same thing.
Man the editors butchered a run that could have been great if he was allowed to do what he wanted.
I couldnt even finish this omnibus. It was the worst omni I have ever read.
You are very lucky that it’s the worst you’ve read. I can’t make a statement like that with this one. Lol
@@NearMintCondition maybe that was a little harsh 😂. It just felt a little clunky for me. Maybe it wasnt as bad as onslaught... maybe 😂
Lame
ya skip this
Oh no it's too good to skip
@@donaldallen9804 ok then buy it asap
Sigh
Will the story still flow alright without the 2099 issues for that mini crossover?
Rly did not like this run after the kraven story. It focused too much on retconning past poor storylines and confusing new readers.
While i liked the run overall, i have read tons of spidey and i agree that i wish it wasnt so focused on retconning stuff. It would have been better had the story just continued on and ignored the stuff people dont like.
This is a good month for omnis 🫶🏽🫶🏽 another solid overview
