    • @David15
      @David15 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      No. He only won because Federer got very tired and it's his second match back. Nika is an average player and if this was Fed before he took over a year out, he would have won extremely easily. Fed lost because he lacked fitness and match sharpness, NOT because his opponent outplayed him

    It´s so great to see Federer back! Tennis is just not the same without him! Of course, it will be challenging to see if he can get another title. But that´s not the important part here, which unfortunately some people put way too much emphasis on today. What´s most important is that Federer is doing what he loves the most, and that´s to play tennis. I feel so lucky to be able to watch Roger Federer again. I truly missed him, and can´t wait for him to play at Dubai next week! Let´s go champ!
    I hope the tennis community show more support towards Roger´s return! He really needs us these days to play at his best! Let´s stop fighting over unnecessary stuff, and disrespect people here. Spread good vibes guys!!!

    I think Federer played incredible in the first set but he got very exhausted in the last two and dropped his level quite a bit ... Credit to Basilashvili for a stellar ground and pound gameplay ... Hopefully the Fed needs to up his fitness for the GSlams maybe use the clay season as practice to get his stamina up for Wimbledon or something and also skip as many tournaments as necessary while getting the necessary practice or he ain't gonna get much far into a five set tournament where everyone will give it their all

    • @ianwalters11
      @ianwalters11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrAtaguas yeah defo. It’s early days for him after 400+ days off and nearly 40. He’s such a repertoire of shots he will probably do well at his favourite Wimbledon but like you say the stamina is really going to need some work, as the skills will only carry him so far in a 5 set slam. I think he will probably skip the clay for fears of it burning him out for Wimbledon but I think you are right,,he should at least play some clay even if just Roland Garros.The pressure will be off (he knows Rafa is unbeatable there so he can only get so far) so he could just try and enjoy himself and build up that stamina for his favourite grass event.

      I feel Federer wouldn't have lost this match if only he hadn't scarfed down so much fondue during his long absence this past year 😜. He was somewhat "overweight" compared to his old fitness levels. But jokes aside, this was a close match that was of high quality. Better man won on the day. I hope Basilashvili will use this superb win to motivate himself to quickly rise in rankings AND hope that Federer doesn't let doubts to creep in. I pray that he will give us two more years of his balletic performances.

    People forget how good Nikoloz can be.
    He plays attacking tennis which can be deadly when it is his day.
    People also dont know that players that play attacking tennis (Roger, Wawrinka, Basil, Rublev) have a much higher ceiling (potential) and can be terrible when they cant hit winners consistently.
    Apart from Fed who can make up for it with serve volley and slice shots, all the others have no alternative when they cant hit it cleanly all match long.

      His best ever was arguably 2004 - 2007, maybe until 2009. I don't see how on earth the 2012, 2017 or 2019 version of himself could beat the young version. He was so quick on his feet and had video game-like shots.
      As for him getting back to at least the level he played at in AO 2020 or Wimbledon 2019 which was still world class, I believe so. His ground strokes look solid, maybe movement is hampered by the knee surgeries? He looks way closer to competitive level than Murray
