    So beautiful it makes me cry. I miss him very much. When he was on song no one looked as good. A single backhand to die for. And a forehand that would take your breath away. People love beauty. That’s why he was so loved. Aesthetically perfect style in which he played the game. No grunting sex noises like Rafa. No attritional defensive baseline grind like Novak. Roger just had pure variety, aggression, creativity, craft and most of all… beauty. He made tennis look so beautiful. To win 20 slams with a single backhand is a real achievement- it’s the harder way to do it. He was THAT good.

    Its incredible to think that Federer roughly had the same levels of efficiency of Novak and Nadal except he was a very aggressive baseline player, with a repertoire of very low percentage shots and also incorparated serve and volley into his game... whereas the other two are defenders! Federer is one of the legends but I would disagree that he is very agressive, also both Djokovic and nadal can mix between defense and attack very well, in fact I would argue that there is no player who could or can turn defensive play to attack that fast which is one of the reasons why he is so great.

    • @pierdomenicosommati443
      @pierdomenicosommati443 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@retarded4527he was inherently inconsistent at this stage of his career, mainly because he was 36½ here, AND playing from 3 years with a very fragile right knee which was also limiting his trainings. He had to make rallies the shortest possible. It's as simple as that. This was making him extremely spectacular and was showing how huge was his margin in earlier years, but it course it was also the cause of some ups and downs.
      Prime Federer was not inconsistent at all. He played the same very aggressive tennis, but with a slightly larger margin of error and from a slightly less advanced position. Together with his prime physical form, it was more than enough to make him scarily consistent too.

      He was already facing recurring physical troubles back then. Unfortunately, he was no more healthy like Nole is today. You can clearly see from 2014/2015 on, that his direction change on his forehand side was weak/slow, this means that he already had those problems at that knee which ended his career after several years. Other than that, he often suffered recurring, sudden attacks of back pain (likely as a result of postural compensation to knee problems). He was well aware of all this of course, it was rarely blocking him from competing back then, but for sure it was sometimes impacting the high risk game he played at that time... He pretty much avoided talking about that in press conferences, but those problems were out course very well known in his entourage (like Claudio Mezzadri recently declared in a live talk on TH-cam), and they tried anything to cope with it, until ultimately there was nothing more they could do. That's probably what happened against Goffin too, who was not really a threat for him under normal healthy conditions.

      @P-K-Ray 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@pierdomenicosommati443 interesting, I hadn’t heard about this re: his team… having had lower back issues myself as a reasonably advanced amateur player, the initial weight shift of the core in direction changes definitely suffers on bad days. I recall seeing one for Fed where his explosiveness was nearly gone, but the cause was completely invisible to a casual viewer. Having experienced it personally, I could see.
      IMO his earlier recurring issues then were more the back problem, but I suppose it’s possible there might’ve been early knee trouble as well.

    It's very easy to forget that Roger, in spite of being only a bit behind Novak and Rafa in terms of titles, GS's - had his own special layers/facets of GOATness: an *_immensely_* pleasing game, had way more variety than the other two and had a higher-risk game that probably cost him overall in terms of results. And he won 13 ATP "fair play" awards (voted for by his fellow pros) and 19 ATP fans' favourite awards, too!! (in case you're wondering, Novak has not won a single one of either....)

    Really annoys me how they rarely ever put the winner speed on the screen after a big forehand or backhand winner. I mean, how hard is that to do for the stat guys in the booth?

    Poor Goffin. He just kind of fell off the map with all the injuries. The same thing has happened to Raonic and Nishikori.

      Milos and Kei at least enjoyed their prime time long enough. Goffin was actually underrated at his meantime.

    here is my take - Goffen is slightly underpowered so that he is no more than a sparring partner. If you give Fed a short ball or one underhit slightly Fed will dominate the point.

    Goffin isn't a slouch...but at what point do you go back to some 90s mentality and not let Fed get forehands!? (Or attempt) I mean clearly it's too much this day
