It is an Anti-War Song. "I did my time and I want out." The character is referring that he did his required time, either in Iraq, or in the military as a whole and wants out. "Go drill your deserts, go fill your graves" Pretty self explanatory. "Then fill your mouth with all the money you will save." While on deployment, troops make a lot more than back in the states. It's still not a lot, but compared to state-side, it's a small fortune. "I'm done! It has begun, I'm not the only one." The character is at his breaking point, he's fed up with the system as a whole. However, his psyche has been corrupted by what he has seen and done. There are others just like him. The chorus of the song refers to the overall corruption and death of a generation as a result of this war. "Fake anti-fascist lie." The lie based off of the poor intelligence that caused us to invade in the first place. "I've tried to tell you, but your purple hearts are giving out." The part about the purple hearts seems to have more than one meaning. The purple heart is a medal that the U.S. military members receive for being wounded in combat. Purple heart could also mean a literal heart that is in poor health. "Can't stop the killing idea. If it's hunting season. Is this what you want?" Now the character is out of the combat zone, back state-side, but all he has is a messed up psyche. Once the "kill switch" has been turned on, it doesn't turned off. All he has is pent up stress, homicidal and suicidal tendencies with a society that does not care or even blames him as part of the problem. Hence the whole term "Psychosocial."
Thank you for typing this, so I didn't have to😅... wanted to add, dude was asking about what does the "rain will kill us all" mean.. The rain = mortar strikes or some type of precision missle strike!!
Psychosocial or the psychology of society is what is discussed. In context this came out around time time of the war in Afghanistan. Its the frustration of seeing the corrupt government making decisions and society following them like sheep. He will preserve himself as the martyr for shining light on the hypocrisy and voicing his frustration of the heard mentality of the general population - the psychology of society.
Corey Taylor the lead singer has a voice react to Snuff especially his live acoustic is a must! Also Dead memories, duality, sulfur, ‘Till we die, unsainted a lot more but I’d say these are some good ones some of their best hits
Im having Tom do Snuff (Accoustic) - Slip knot in january. Im trying to see if i can get duality on the schedule for sooner vs later. Cant promise anything on duality but snuff is set!
Snuff and Dead Memories were my introduction to the Maggot world and to this day when I am having a really bad episode (Schizoaffective, Borderline Personality and Bipolar with ADHD inattentive type and sever anxiety) I can sometimes ground myself and "pull myself back together" by listening to Psychosocial... Corey Taylor is an amazing lyricist and he really connects to his fan base!!!
My friend got me into slipknot when I was 14 I was scared of them at first then I went through a rebellious phase 🤭 My mum cried when I played - the nameless
@@F3ar3ss Corey Taylor live at KOKO. Camden, London. Aug 5,2016. The whole performance was fantastic but ‘Snuff’ and ‘Bother’ were exceptional. When someone is thinking of Corey Taylor acoustic they are usually referring to this particular performance in London.
If you want a good deep dive into the lyrics I'd recommend Knox Hill's breakdown. He does a good job at explaining the meanings, intents, and messages of lyrics, instrumental composition, rhythm, and the visuals in music videos.
The dude with the spikes on His head is not the drummer. He's. The keyboardist and sampler And his name is Craig Jones and he had recently departed from the band last year Along with their last drummer j weinberg
One of their heaviest (but still melodic) songs is called Eyeless if that’s something you’d like! The drums are insane, widely regarded as one of the best drum songs of *all* time. You’d definitely have a fun-to-watch reaction to it! If not that one, the music video to Duality is a fun one and Snuff is a BEAUTIFUL, soft spoken, heart wrenching song about his divorce.
I appreciate that you know what psychosocial means cuz ur a therapist love you bro ❤️ Anyone needs the lyrics to understand it but you got an upper hand knowing words the rest of us are learning from this song
They have some chiller songs that are quite mental health relevant and as a slipknot fan myself I can say they have gotten me through some tough times would love it if you continued checking them out🤘🏻
MORE SLIPKNOT PLEASEEEEEE TOMM!!!! I have some recommendations: the devil in I, Custer, snuff, duality, before I forget, wait and bleed, eyeless, killpop, yen, vermilion, and vermillion, pt2!
I love this song. RIP Joey and Paul. I really wish though would have stayed a "band" and a franchise. Their firing of their second drummer was rediculous. The drummer you are watching is Joey Jorgenson. Paul Grey was there bassist. Joey died in his sleep at 46 from Acute transverse myelitis. Paul i beleve died from severe heart disease, morphine and fentenal OD. Accidental.
you should bring up the lyrics on your phone, tablet, extra screen, etc. Then when you want to talk about something, you can pause it go back and go through the lyrics. Just a thought.
Here's idea for several videos: Linking Park- In the end, Linking Park- Crawling. Chester(singer) was depressed and sadly took his own life. But lyrics in those songs are.. Strong. My recommendation, would like to watch review on those.
new slipknot enjoyer here! i know this is random but i got into this band while i was browsing youtube and it was on my home page, i accidentally clicked on it, best.. day.. ever
For me, Before i Forget is a timeless masterpiece by slipknot. The interpertation is kinda blurry, each member of the band at the time had a different meaning for this song. I suggest that you listen to this one
Like the reaction dude ...... life long fan of Slipknot, they are the fuckin greatest group ever!! It's all about the masks, the message, amazing musicians in the band, and the incredible industrial style metal! Corey Taylor, lead singer, probably the best front man in the business. Several percussionists to drum this fuckin awesome beat! Check out more Slipknot songs ..... it's rage against the machine.
I doubt it's a Slipknot fan suggesting Psychosocial... because with songs like Snuff, Unsainted, Nero Forte, Surfacing, Wait and Bleed, The Nameless, Sulfur and even Killpop... no actualy Slipknot fan would pick that...
La Dispute - KING PARK reaction from you would be so interesting, hearing your takes on the MANY mental health issues it talks about would be really refreshing.
Chem trails tainting the rain, throwing our selves against the walls = hurting ourselves, and preserving the martyr in me = not worth saving them, my take
So much of me wants to recommend more Slipknot songs, but I won't...because like you said, not every genre is for everyone. I appreciate you at least giving it a shot, though! 😊
Hey Tom if you never got a chance. Go check out the Knox Hill reaction to this song. He breaks it down in a way i never heard and it blew my mind. Like 7 years later haha. Cheers Tom loved the reaction. -James
Never thought I’d see slipknot on here nice Tom! Definitely need to do more slipknot!
Im having Tom do the Accoustic version of Snuff in January of next year

The drummer actually has a Jesus Christ inspired mask, the crown of thorns on its head.
