old school mechanic tip, if u get bad plug threads. Cut a spark plug or preferably and old bolt with same thread with a hack saw in the same shape as a tap ,use plenty pentratiing fluid an recut/ chase out the dirty threads . Using a bolt will recut into aluminium heads :)
what a great job you did on this video. really good closeups of how you did everything . and the commentary was also excellent, never too much, too little, never arragant, never dismissive, never supperior . a pleasure to watch. thank you.
I see you have a cover on the boat you just rebuilt. Smart move! Why people pay thousands for a boat and not cover it amazes me. You have a great channel and I learn something with every episode. Thank you!
To check a blade type fuse, you don't have to remove it, simply use your circuit tester... you can see if there is power going to the fuse and if it has power going out ... nice feature I didn't know about for years
@andrewk6844 yes, all blade type fuses can be tested(with curcuit tester) while still plugged in. Just because the fuse isn't blown doesn't mean there is current, tons of videos explaining this procedure. Do some research bud
@mikeromine6495 simply looking at the connection doesn't tell you if it has juice coming in. Please check out the many videos showing this. Ride hard !
@@speedfreak8200 Tell me more Mr Science. Lol. I was simply saying when you do pull the fuse, you get the opportunity to look at the blade to connector connection. I am an ASE Master Tech with two US Patents. Believe me, I know how to check a circuit. Peace….
I was just watching one of your videos from 8 months ago when you were working on a Polaris scrambler 4x4 then a new video dropped thank you for such great content!! Thanks again
I’ve went through several of these older fourtrax’s with the same spark plug issue, there’s always some threads still showing when you’ve tightened the spark plug down as far as it will go, never had to do anything to correct it as they all start and run perfect with no long term effects. It’s Honda, bulletproof.
Another great save. Hell coils would fix that spark plug thread nicely. You should do a challenge. 1. Give Spicy Jade a $1500 budget 2. She picks out the atv/bike/snowmobile or any other unique toy 3. You (Joe) must get it up and running/rideable. 4. Sell the machine and any profit gets donated to a charity of your families choice.
BRAVO, another great find, diamond in the rough. Vinny looks disappointed with the purchase 🐕Better not cut into my Gravy Train fund. Another learning moment going through the engine.
Usual most honda 4x4 4 tracks from that era are still on the trails to this very day the only thing you usually have to do is clean the carborator and thats it there pretty reliable
I had to clean up the rims on mine with a wire brush. They were just a little rusty and wouldn’t seal. I put the tires back on with two big screw drivers and they’ve been holding air for like 6 years now. I had to replace the starter and the fuel pump on mine, starter was a bit of a pain but the old one was so done the brushes were down to copper. I love my fourtrax. They’re like the best fourwheeler ever made
Nice job on this one. One thing I would recommend trying is to repair your plastic with Plastex from GT Motorsports. I have used it for a couple years now and rarely have to use staples to reinforce and can be sanded and polished to be not very noticeable. It can also be purchased in standard colors.
Check valve stem's for leak's or it's the rim seal, the tire's look good I don't see large crack's. Take each wheel off pour water and look for air leak. The tire's look original. Other than that, Just like u said it's a Honda and is why they are so loved as the run forever. And are usually easy to work on.
Brent Gallagher Toledo Ohio here. Just wanna say your vids are awesome I'm always glad to see the younger generation have an interest in eney thing small engine. I used to be able to name eney at or atc with only hearing it run or looking at the tire tracks. Keep up the good work my young brother!
Its not a her it’s a atv !!! 👏 😊😊😊 how do you fix the back end of a atv because mine mine had a broken wheel and and axle so now my dad has to replace the whole thing by buying me a new one that has reverse and a kick start and a bigger engine for it!!!
I bought an 87 for 350 buck...pretty much same issues. Those little bikes are beasts! Ride like a tank but not much will stop it. Well, I sank mine so that stopped it. But honda life...pulled the plug, drained the fuel bowl and boom...started right up
I love your channel you help out so much in your detailed and your dog is too funny but I also have learned a lot from watching you because I actually have a 95 Polaris 400 two-stroke it's four-wheel drive I got it for free I got it running help with your video so keep up the great content and I look forward to next video and give me a hug
Man I had that exact same year model of fourtrax and we got it brand new in 86 when I 15 years old. Me and a buddy were taking it for a cruise through our neighbors field and they had just dug a deep pond and I thought it would be a good idea to ride off into the pond and I rolled it going full speed and almost killed my buddy. He took the brunt of the hit but we walked it off and kept going. That thing brings back a lot of memories. She's definitely a keeper. It'll last forever if taken care of. Which I can guarantee you that you will. Great video and great find!
Need to get some merch going. 2vintage vintage style t-shirt with a picture of a pile of rust with two wheels sticking out and the caption "Not Too Bad"
Amazing deal!!!! I would have jumped on a deal like that so fast. I've seen people selling those where I live in the same state for more than a thousand
Time for a Winch on the trailer Would make loading a lot easier If you hadn't taken the carb off and checked It would have been clogged jets though I think someone cross threaded the plug thought it was fully home
Imagine entering your first ever ama sanctioned enduro event only to find out that the spark plug you put in the night before wasn’t all the way home. Then start the race and wonder why your bike started hard, isn’t running well and doesn’t seem right. That was me at 16 with my ktm. 11 mile loop was rough to say the least.
Great score on this one! I would have bought it for $350 too. Worst case scenario part it out but this thing is in great condition in my opinion. I've seen some for sale in the Pittsburgh area and they're always 3x tge money and look like they rolled down a hill and sat outside for a decade. I would double check that you have the right spark plug. Maybe it's supposed to be slightly shorter?
I have a 1987 Suzuki LTE 300. Utility version. Only 2wd Paid 250$ for it. Had to make a Chinese carburetor fit it And make my own chain tensioner setup But 5 months later that sucker has done everything I need it to
Exactly. Lots of tread on those tires. New stems or put tubes in them. New tires are like $60 or more each and run up the tab in a hurry. I just got a set of 4 for $250 because the old ones were absolutely slick. Over 9000 miles on them.
I think Vinnie is the best part of your content. Joe I have been watching you since you had chuck on. You should have chuck on and maybe work on a project together.keep up the great content.
The guy took the starter apart and didn't fix it. He just put it back in to fill the hole, but disconnected the wire so it wouldn't short out. Try putting some slime in the tires, I've used it on my lawnmower and it works great. It may not seal up right away, but it will eventually.
someone also definitely took the starter apart. i rebuild them for a living. aftermarket are pretty cheap for these but i would suggest rebuilding the original.
With a good starter depending on how much power it has when you first ride it and how good the suspension is I would really like this 4x4. Did you say it is a 350? That would be perfect. I could even pull small logs out of the woods with this as it has a strong hitch on the back. You might need one of those hoops with wheels to lift the front of the log but she could do some work.
It's funny, you always sound shocked when an old beat down neglected Honda comes in and it really doesn't take much and she fires RIGHT up!! It's a Honda. Honestly, I had no idea until I got my hands on 1984 Accord sedan 5 speed about 10 years ago. That thing ran like a sewing machine (until the head gasket went at 390,000 miles) but yeah ever since then all we buy are Hondas. I have had 2 Pilots, I drive an 04 odyssey for my 'work' van. They're fantastic, really amazing how well they're built.
I've got a 03 Polaris Scrambler 50 that's kicking my butt. Several new parts including carb. Good compression. Can kick start and idle all day but as soon as you press the throttle it bogs and dies.
Nice find! My friend had one when we were young. They are tougher then nails!😂 the fuel pumps were a common problem if they sat around any amount of time
You should get a can of contact cleaner and spray the contacts down as you are working. Do you have a set of JIS bits? If not do yourself a favor and grab some or make a few out of phillips bits. Once you stich the crack with the welder, you can fill the crack with baking soda and apply a lot of crazy glue. The reaction will be stronger than the plastic. Touch it up with a paint pen.

$350. Never seen one sell that cheap. What a score !! I bought one brand new. Awesome machines.
That economy tractor is a diamond in the rough there ! Hydro lift , with rear lift / tiller is awesome ! And not the easiest find
I just picked up 2 of these. Haven’t had a lot of time to mess with them, but not running yet.
1985? Great vintage ATV, and a nice size - not too big. Again the variety and amount of videos you produce are amazing.
1986 first year.
And the best 4 wheeler Honda ever built.
Great find I picked up a1997 foreman 400 4x4 for $500 tore the starter apart got the bearing free put back together an new carburetor runs great
You're getting to be an antiques collector, Joe! Good Job getting them running.
80's Quads and Trike's are the Holy grail right now! We either grew up on them or wanted One!!

If the tires go flat go get some green tire slime it might help 😊😊😊

Yeah, but this one turned out to be OK! What great luck.

Check if there is a pickup line in the gas tank. It might have broken where it goes through the tank. I’ve had that happen a couple times.

Joe you need to mount a 2000 or 3000lb winch on the front of your trailer. I did this and you will be surprised how I use mine.
Thank you Honda for an electric start, and Kicker back Up!
I have an "03 Rancher 350 and it has a pull start backup. Doesn't pull much harder than a lawn mower.
Local Napa parts store has spark plug taps as well as threaded inserts to repair stripped threads
I have two of these in my barn. Great machines. Parts are starting to be unubtainium though.

As usual great camera work , I enjoy your videos. Keep it up , got the same quad , u can’t kill these Hondas

13:18 That's what she said!
You would easily get $1800.00 for this machine in Oregon if you fix the starter. Great buy. Contrats.

Another Honda tank can’t beat em
Fuel pumps tend to work better when theres fuel in the tank....
Now its hot stapled fill the crack on top with clear jb epoxy, looks pretty good dry.
You need to make a video of that economy tractor! With tiller too! Awesome scores like usual
