Bombay Karachi Halwa | Corn Starch Halwa

  • Ingredients:
    2 bowls of corn starch (I used this corn starch from Amazon 👉 amzn.to/3PbjDTt)
    300ml + 600ml of water
    1 and 1/2 bowls of sugar
    1 cup + 2 tablespoons of ghee
    1 tablespoon of cardamom powder
    Food colour of your choice
    1/2 bowl of sliced almonds
    Method:
    Start by preparing the corn starch mixture. In a large bowl, add the corn starch and 300ml of water. Mix well until the corn starch has dissolved and there are no lumps. Leave aside for use later.
    Pour 600ml of water in a deep cooking pan on high heat. Add the sugar and stir to help it dissolve in the water.
    Bring to a boil and ensure the sugar has fully dissolved in the water.
    Switch to low heat before adding the previously prepared corn starch mixture.
    Stir continuously until the mixture starts to thicken before switching to medium heat.
    Add half a cup of ghee and continue to stir.
    Then add another half a cup of ghee and continue to stir once again.
    Add the cardamom powder and stir until the mixture has thickened.
    Now add any food colour of your choice followed by sliced almonds.
    Mix well, add more food colour if required and two tablespoons of ghee to bring some shine to the halwa.
    Continue to stir on medium heat until you get the consistency as shown on the video.
    Brush some ghee in a deep plate before pouring the halwa from the pan.
    Garnish with some sliced almonds and allow it to set.
