One of my favorite orchestral works. Strauss was such a master orchestrator. And to hear this marvelous orchestra and this great conductor perform it! Pure joy.
Herbert von Karajan, Karl Böhm and Fritz Reiner would be proud of this wonderful rendition. It´s been a long time to hear something like this. RIP MAESTRO. GOD BLESS YOU.
This has become my favourite recording of Also Sprach. Wonderfully expressive as well as technically superb. What an amazing rapport between Maestro Janson and every part of the orchestra.
This score of this treasure should be kept absolutely 100 per cent safe forever! How wonderfully Maestro Jansons (rest in peace) and the Concertgebouw convey the magic, humour and awesome Human inspiration!! This is the only quiet ending that reduces me to a tearful puddle because it speaks of the impossibility of knowing the end for there is no end. I believe there will be no end of future generations, not just Germans, who will marvel at the soul and art of Herr Richard Strauss through this gem.
Strauss really captures the meaning of Nietzsche's philosophy and brings in the greatest color for the subject! This is one of my favorite classical pieces!

Thank you - this helps me get all of the sections of this masterpiece straight in my head. My favorite probably is "Of Those in the Background World," or "Of the Great Longing."
I appreciate that this piece is not rushed like some of the other versions I've heard on TH-cam, especially Einleitung. That section HAS to be long, take you in, and carry you on to the subsequent section. This version is also very rich and full. Beautiful!! That organ at the end of the first section was ON POINT!!

If you asked me what my favorite piece by Strauss is, I’d say whichever one I’m listening to. Yesterday it was Don Juan, and last week it was Death and Transfiguration. And then, of course, the rose, the screaming lambs, and all the rest! His music is miraculous.
What a magisterial performance and what a deeply moving tone poem: one of the most profound music scores I've ever listened to ! I read that according to Strauss's novelist friend Romain Rolland, the composer once said that 'In music one can say everything. People won’t understand you.' I truly ignore if such a typically humorous remark by Strauss may apply to this tone poem. All I can tell is that when a piece of Music is as brilliant as 'Also sprach Zarathustra', a listener is only concerned with feeling inspired and with being carried away... A big BRAVO to the Concertgebouw Orchestra and to the conductor... Rest in peace, Maestro Mariss Jansons. @Classic Vault 3, a big THANK YOU !!!
The LP was bought by my parents in the early 70s after the Apollo Moon missions. Great though the famous intro is, my favourite section is the beautiful string melody that starts at around 03:00.

Strauss has to be the greatest orchestrator in the history of music, he is insurmountable! This performance is fantastic but it doesn't compare in sound quality to the Karajan recording on youtube elsewhere.
There are very few heaven inspired and etherical music which compares to what we find at 2:42-5:33. No words do justice in explaining the beauty and harmony of that piece of music. Thanks Richard Strauss and ofcource the CREATOR.

My favorite part of this entire thing is at 18:53 and the next 40 seconds.... it gives me the strongest chills of any classical piece. It sounds like an animal, an alive thing that is hiding from a predator.. idk it's amazing
That segment is one of my favorites too. This tone poem, as well as MANY other pieces by Richard Strauss, has some of the greatest, most satisfying orchestral effects I have ever heard, and that is a perfect example. Especially when the low strings come in, the effect is just so badass.

German philosophers loved Iranian history, Japanese philosophers were deeply influenced by German ones, " German philosophy, especially German idealism had the most lasting and deep influence. This was partly a fortuitous connection brought about by the close association formed in the late nineteenth century between Tokyo Imperial University and Germany."
A true masterpiece about Zarathustra, the first and pioneer prophet who was the finder of love and destruction of hate. The one who divided the human life and action by calling all negative actions and believes in only 2 simple choices to teach that humans have the choice of their lifestyle. Darkness and the lightness. This was 3500-6000, years before the Christian religion. He was the first one who believed in one God (AHURA MAZDA) and Satan (AHRIMAN).
